Hey everyone, I'm Rykua. I'm a writer, though I do music composition and some graphic desings (photoshop, though I'm not good at it) as well.

I've been composing for some time now (about a year to a year and a half), and thought about looking on the 'net to meet other composers and get their thoughts on my works, and see some of their works (and to have my works critiqued by people who know what they're doing).

I'm also quite an avid gamer, and love playing games (though sometimes I get distracted by the music if it's good, LOL!)

This looks like a very nice forum, and I'm glad I stumbled across it.

Greetings, Rykua! I am also a composer and writer. Love to read some of your writings in the Off-Topic forum, and I'll try to keep my eye open for your music as well! Welcome to YCF.

Hello! My name is Adam, I'm from Charlotte, TN, I'm 17 years old, and I'm getting ready to go to college to study music composition.

I haven't played mandolin in a while, Giselle - I left my mandolin with my instructor so he could restring it; unfortunately, he passed away the next day. His kids came out and cleaned out the shop, taking my mandolin and other instruments, and I've been getting the runaround for a couple years now trying to get the (*#@$ thing back.

Hey, I'm Adam, And I've also been composing since i was 13, I'm now 14 hahaha. :)

Hey guys, I just wanted to introduce myself briefly. First off, I love music (as I'm sure everyone else here does); playing it, writing it, listening to it, whatever, if it has to do with music, I can't get enough of it.

I was formally introduced to music when I was 14, but ever since I was about 3 I've been fascinated with it. I had finished several major works by the time my parents put me into piano lessons 4 years ago, and because of my lack of training, I had even gone so far as to come up with my own scales, which I later came to know as the scales of whole tone, chromatic, octatonic, pentatonic and diatonic, as well as 7 of the 12 modes. I also developed my own form of notation so I could write my compositions down. I now view those compositions as inferior, but I have taken several of them and made changes and corrections so they make a little more sense in the actual music world as opposed to my own.

Now I'm 18, and am going to be a freshman at BYU-I next fall, where I plan to study music education and composition. I have taken 4 years of piano lessons and 6 months of voice. I also taught myself how to play the guitar and the violin (with a little help from my dad, who is a very accomplished violinist). I have finished roughly 30 songs as of now, ranging from orchestral to pop. I also have about 1,000,000 songs half finished, as I'm sure most composers do. I have had the opportunity to work with several lesser known composers, but it's better than nothing, and I'm glad I've had the chance to have discussions with people much more knowledgeable than myself. I idolize Eric Whitacre, and aspire to one day write music as breath taking as his, but as of now, I still have a long way to go.

If you were able to get through all that, congratulations. If it made any sense, that's even better.

I look forward to getting to know many of you, and to discussing music with everyone here.

Yay, I'm part of an orifice that is radiating wisdom. Whoa three words that I never ever thought I'd use.

They must have their place too, you know!

Hi guys,

I'm glad to have found a great forum for young composers. I'm a sophomore at a University studying piano and music business. Unlike many of you, I haven't been playing forever, maybe about 5 years. But I'm working on my skills as a musician and hopefully composer.

Hi my name is Ryan, I play bass and guitar, I like to compose sort of experimental progressive metal music, Latin Jazz, and funk, and Im quite familiar with rock, blues, and jazz styles. Im a bit new at composing, however what I have written, I am very happy with. My friends enjoy it, and I am able to express my feelings through what I create. I can usually create melodies by singing over the chord progression, and thats how I usually do it, but I seem to have trouble accompanying my melodies (and usually just end up having one instrument arpeggiate upward or downwards with the chords I structured the melody on.)I'd just like to learn some more in depth music theory, learn new techniques, and incorporate those into my writing style. I hope that I am able to speak with many of you about composition. peace.

hey, nice to meet you, and welcome. I'm sure you'll get a lot of your questions answered here. I sure have.

Hi Ryan nice too meet you. Why don't you go and introduce yourself in the introduction thread or whatever it is called.

oh my lord. I'm sorry about that (your teacher AND your instrument).

I had a similar thing happen with one of my clarinet teachers. One day I called to invite him to a recital I was in and he was, er, dead. :)
