Hey I'm new here... I am 14 and my name is Phoenix (yes, that is my real name). I am a percussionist, with my main instrument being drum set. I have just ventured into the world of composing for instruments other than percussion, and I stumbled apon this site. I look forward to learning a lot from this place.

I have a thread about a "piece" I just made, which can be viewed here.

Welcome Phoenix (cool name by the way )

Hope you find yourself at home here!

Thanks for the welcome :)

Greetings all,

I'm new here. I am a fairly amateur composer and look forward to criticisms of my work and any helpful pointers. I am 20 years old and am currently pursuing a degree in Classical Studies at Queen's University.

We'll be glad to criticise your work, assuming you criticse some of ours :D

Welcome to the site :)

Hi everyone,

I'm relatively new to composition although I've been playing the flute since 4th grade, and am an amateur pianist. My friends and I plan on launching a flash cartoon series soon, and I'm creating the music for the series. There's some really good music on this site and I hope to learn much from this community. I'm currently my senior year of college studying electrical and computer engineering, and on my off-time often like to animate cartoons, and draw plots.

Ciao,

KSP

Classical studies? Cool. We'll get along great.

JUST FOLLOW YOUR DREAM

*squints* I can't read the quote at the top of your site...

why not use a pen?

Hi Guys,

I'm Chris, erm, I'm not really sure when I started to compose music but I can tell you that it was on a a sample based step sequencer (ie if you wanted triplets you would have to divide each beat into twelve steps and woe betide you if you wanted to halve the note lenghs.) I have some of the wavs and perhaps if I'm in a good/tipsy disposition I'll pop them online!

I'm currently at the University of Nottingham studying Music and am in my first year there! There isn't any composition tuition in the first year but there is alot in the second year so can't wait for that!

I've never really had any formal composition lessons, my keyboard teacher gave me a lot of feedback but I've pretty much taught myself orchestration and the like. I think I could really benefit from composition lessons on structure as all my compositions are through composed to various degrees!

Having said that my keyboard teacher taught me that some of the best synths in life are free! a lesson which I, personally, think some people should remember. (EWQLSO is worth the money though)

On a curious note I think the words "worth the" should be contracted to "worthe" to save time but that is, like so many of my ideas, is worthless.

Anyway, I have posted a bit of my music here already so er, please listen to it :ninja:

Many thanks,

Chris

Hey Chris, heard your Alien piece and its sounding good. Never used a sequencer like you are, I tend to prefer notation software like Sibelius. Have fun on the forums, post lots, obey the rules and so on and so forth.

See ya round!

Hey

You know those snails you find in gardens? That's me! Kind of. You see, I'm not actually a snail.

At least, that's what they keep telling me.

You see, I am actually a snail...

It's a long story, but I'm tired now.

I'm going to sleep in my shell. Night everyone!

hmmm... welcome!! I hope you have a nice sleep!

Hi everyone.

I just recently stumbled across this forum on my travels through cyberspace. I look forward to discussing a lot of cool musical ideas here.

Awesome. Welcome to YC, I will be your tour guide so if you just get on the bus...

Nope, jkjk. I am Morivou, welcome to the forums and if you are looking for a place to share musical ideas, this is the right place!

Thanks for the welcome. It sounds like I'm definitely in the right place!

If you need any help at all getting used to the forums... I'm here!

Okay, just noticed it may have been a bit of bad style to post without introducing myself first. I'm quasimodo, started taking music seriously 1 and a half years ago, making mostly electronic music, but started playing electric bass almost one year ago, and now learning the piano as well. I got the chance to do a bit of classical harmony here at the music school, and I'm getting into that too now. So, let's see how it goes. I'm afraid I won't be able to comment really on other people's work except for non-theoretical advice :0

Welcome Quasimodo, btw that name reminds me of somthing...

Hope you share your music, but also comment others :P

If you need any help at all getting used to the forums... I'm here!

Thanks a bunch! I'll give a shout if I ever need help!
