I'll introduce myself:

I'm 19 and am currently studying psychology at the University of Chester in England. Music has been an interrest and a hobby for a long time, I've played the Electric Bass for years and am quite proficient at it (though theres still a lot to learn, heh), my music background is mainly Funk/Rock and Traditional English Folk.

Recently (a few months ago) I started researching music theory in more depth with the intention of improving my Bass playing, I became pretty fascinated by it (especially the area of harmony) and have since taken up Piano to help my studies, my playing is coming along pretty well and my music reading is MASSIVELY improved. I've also been exploring more Classical Music which I have taken a big liking to.

I've been experimenting a little with composition for the Piano and Electric Bass, its really highlighted how little I actually know though, and over the summer while I'm not working I plan to study theory pretty thoroughly.

I came across this forum and Figured while I'm learning it might be useful to keep up to date with a place like this.

Welcome, guys.:)

and girls??? (But I don't want to open that can of particularly PC worms)

Hello. My name is Kenneth Keyn. I'm a student at Warner Pacific College in Portland, Oregon. I'm currently 22.

I mainly focus on composing for orchestras, small ensembles, and choir - though I have been known to write various solo works.

Anyway, I came to this site because I'm the director of the Conceptual Music Competition, a multi-forum for-fun composition competition, and I'm always on the lookout for more participating forums to include. Currently, we're in the middle of the voting stage on round 7, "The Enemy Lair", so if you'd like to check out what it looks like, visit this link here:

Sweetness! When's the next CMC?

Well, the voting period ends this Saturday. Whoever wins then has to get me their theme idea for the next one, but that usually doesn't take very long. Probably sometime next week is when the next round will start.

Cool that competition looks fun!

Anyway hello! I'm Callum and I'm a 15 year old, currently living in Scotland. Just now I'm doing my exams and stuff (I think I'm doing quite well so far) and composing is my sort of light relief. I've been composing for 3 years and I play violin and piano, but to be honest I'm not very good at playing them. I'm about grade 4 on both. I don't really write for any groups or anything I suppose, I've written for big bands, solo instruments, film orchestra, orchestra and so on lol. Oh and if you are wondering about the name, its because its my surname but spelled slightly differently and also because (strangely) it happens to be my favourite animal. I just came across this site when I googled composing forum and I figured it would be a good thing to join to improve my skills a bit.

This sounds interesting, very interesting. I'm checking it out now. I expect Marius would be brilliant at this, check out some of his stuff in the incidental forum.

Good afternoon, friends. My name is Darrell Day and I am a composer and conductor living and working in Indianapolis, IN. I recently left teaching to concentrate full time on my writing. I am most comfortable with writing for film, video, and stage works. However, I have over 250 choral, handbell, and other instrumental works to my credit. I have a Masters degree in Music Ed and have been fortunate enough to sing in many theatres in the United States and Europe. I play piano quite well, all of the brass instruments, guitar, and amd a handbell soloist. My most recent CD, "Make Me Beautiful" can be found on CDBaby.com. This Summer I will be recording my Mass and my first opera. If I can be of service to you let me know!

Thanks for letting me be a part of your group.

Music and psychology are an interesting combination. Welcome, colleague.

hello everyone! i'm 20 and i used to study music til A-levels, then i entered med school and now im boring =p hAhAH im classically trained but interested in everything. =)

Hehe... an e-girlfriend for Caltech :w00t:

Can I reintroduce myself?

Hi! : D

Hello! What's your name?

*Waves* Hi everyone, I'm Harpsong (also known by my musical name of Tincolindo), or if you want to be boring, my mundane name of Ave. :o

I don't have much musical training, save some piano lessons when I was younger, and taking part in the school choir. I haven't actually been composing orchestral music for long, less than a year in fact, but I've already been nominated for Best Song by an Unsigned Artist, and Best Unsigned Artist in the Fantasy Music Awards (2006).

I tend to compose film-soundtrack-style scores, and have just finished my latest project which was a Tolkien-inspired CD. (Considering Shore's work on the films, some say it was my most courageous release yet! It's certaintly had a good reception so far, though.)

As I'm a very impoverished student - I'm studying English Literature at University level (how did I get from English lit to music??) I don't have much in the way of composing material. I tend to work with two programs in particular - Magix Music Maker 2005 deluxe (great for their loops!) and Harmony Assistant. I'm wary of using HA, however, because of it's appaling midi sound. Some instruments are OK, but after a while you canreally hear the midi-ness. I am severely debating wether or not to dish out for EWQLSO.

I'm Willie...

Started playing the guitar at 8, found out I could play alot of instruments and I could sing. From there joined a band for awhile. Then singer-songwriter, songwriter and now just finished composing my first indy film.

Cheers;)

Greetings, Harpsong and Willie!

Hello, fellow composers. I've been composing for about 5 years now, using Sibelius notational software. My inspiration is the music of Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, Brahms, Stravinsky...you name it. I have played cello for about 10 years, and am currently pursuing a degree of Music Education. Well, that's about all there is to say!

Hello members of the new, I salute you!
