Hey I'm Matt - joined recently, music student at King's College London. Anyone who is interested in modern music check out my piano piece - Hexachords - I'd be very pleased to hear what people think! And if you more traditional stuff check out the fugue I've put up as well!

Hey Matt, how far are you into your studies? I'm hopefully going to london to study in three years.

Hi Mark

Just finished my second year, and have been accepted onto the Advanced Composition and Advanced Analysis modules for next year (we had to interview! - only ten places on each).

It's a good place to be, and the course is mostly pretty good!

I've been enjoying some of your music, maybe some day we can meet, if you're still in london by that time.

Hehe, I had a look around KCL back when I was making my choices. Decided against applying to it, however - far too bustling. :(

Yeah it is kind of insane! Music dept. is rated 2nd best in the country tho so...

So where are you thinking of going mike?

Hey I'm David from Sheffield, I'm 16, played mellophone in Concord Drum & Bugle Corps for 4 years, played Guitar for 5 years, played piano for about 5 years also.

I spend half my life on the computer writing songs in Guitar Pro and Sibelius, I shall post some sometime today, hope you like them. I normally write orchestrated metal rock or pure orchestra music. I like to mess about with time signatures and produce real deep mood-oriented pieces.

See ya round!

Hi, im John.

Im 17, and been playing piano for 13 years and violin for 11.

I am a "compulsive composer", and I write about 20 or 30 songs a month.

My music is a hybrid of industrial, orchestral, and ambient piano recordings.

I

Hi, the name is Chris. Just call me Knappy, (thats my nickname). I recently graduated from HS. I started in music when I was 6. I learned to play the piano first, then I moved to VA and started band where from 6th - 12th grade I taught myself how to play the Saxes, French Horn, Trombone, Baritone, Tuba, Trumpet (if you play the French Horn you can play nearly any brass instrument.

I composed quite a few pieces over the years. Unfortunately my computer crashed one day and I lost all of my scores. Since then I have been avidly working on my compositions and backing up everything I have. I got EWQLSOSE and it makes it so much easier to compose.

I find most of my musical taste to be in that of heavy classical. I.E. Hans Zimmer, Tyler Bates, Harry-Gregson Williams etc...

What do you mean 'heavy classical'? Those are all film composers.

If you want heavy classical, chew on some Brahms, or perhaps even some Mahler.

Hello all!

Note that this message is simply a vehicle for my procrastination.

I'm Tristan. And female. (surprising?) aged 17, and thus currently sitting the hellish Higher School Certificate along with the 66,000 other 17-year-olds in New South Wales. What sets me apart a little is that I'm taking the highest course of music, 2 + extension.

I'm primarily a singer - a lyric soprano - but I also study piano (unbelievably badly) and harp (rather well). It is my dream and ambition to score a remarkably high UAI, and get into the B. Mus at the Sydney Con, majoring in Musicology - eventually becoming an academic, broadcaster, writer or conductor.

As you can see, composition is not high on my list of priorities! Alas that, as a compulsory part of Music 2, we have to write a 2-minute composition based on our core study - Australian music of the last 25 years.

I write a little bit, but simply hit a wall every single time I try to compose something half-way decent. Considering that a final draft score and recording of my composition is due this Friday and I have nothing, this is bad.

Quite bad.

Apart from that, lovely to meet you all!

Oh, but I have.

...

Oh, but it's crap.

We're marked on, simply, crystallisation of inspiration, and motific development.

With those huge words looming down at you, it's impossible to come up with anything that fulfills them...

^ Just did.

Oh! Also! I have to add - I need practice in proof-reading scores for harp (because my orchestra teacher loves doing the one thing that drives harpists insane - thrusting a piano score at them and saying, "just double the piano, will you?"), so if anyone's written anything that involves a harp and wants me to make sure that it's playable, I'd love to help!

Um... pm me, or something?

I do chew on Mahler, but his music is not as well known nor appreciated to my generation as the film score composers style. It's a big leap when you can take someone who listens to AC/DC and that other crap, give them some Clint Mansell or Tchaikovsky, and they forget about their Rock. That is all heavy classical to me.

So, evolve yet again. Go for Mahler.

You really like Mahler don't you?

Hi,

I just joined today and posted two compositions but forgot to introduce myself.

My name is Dean Valentine I'm a self-taught musician and I've worked as a freelance composer since 2000.In my late teens my interest in music was sparked by an old upright piano which was a present from a family friend.

For my first gig I recorded a whole 26 part series on a borrowed 8 track Alesis sequencer,a second hand roland piano,a dodgy module & a stop watch, while pretending to the client that I had a professional studio.

Things have moved on a bit since then,(I finally bought a new stopwatch.) , Since 2000 I've composed music for a number of 26 part / 52 part animation & Live action series / short films / documentaries for production companies around Europe/States/Asia.

In March 2006 I set up my new studio including Mac G5 Quad / Protools / Dynaudio monitors / EWQL Platinum Pro XP & S.Choir / Truestrike 2 / ProjectSam brass / EWQL RA / Atmosphere etc.

I have'nt had a chance to update my website with latest projects/news etc, which I hope to do next month, but theres plenty of info there if you're interested.

Thanks,

Dean.
