Hello there. My name is Jason. Im an 18 year old freshman at Pitt State University undergoing a Music Education/Composition Major. I am a Percussionist/Pianist.

I love writing music, especially percussion. If you ever need a marching percussion score Id be glad to offer my assistance.

J.

You may interested in checking out the thread in the musical challenged and games forum in which some members are writing a collaborative piece for indoor percussion ensemble.

Welcome to YC :)

Hey everybody! My name's Kurt, I'm 18 and live in South Africa. Just started college this year and studying IT. I started playing the piano when I was 12 or so and I started composing last year. I also started classical piano lessons last week to improve my sight reading. I've composed about 5 pieces and I'd love to know what you guys think about it so I'll be posting them when I get time.

I love listening to other people's compositions too and I'm looking forward to listening to all of your stuff!

Be seeing you all

Kurt :D

Hi! I'm 18 years old and I play the violin and the viola. I will be going to college next year to study music, history, and English. I love schmaltz and am a huge fan of film scores (Shore's "Lord of the Rings" being one of my favorites, hence my screen name.) In other words, I like music that tells a story even if it means some cheesy moments, just so everyone knows where I'm coming from when I give feedback. I'm familiar with some music theory, but probably not as much as most people here from what I've gathered, so my reviews may not be as detailed. I'm excited! This will be fun!

Hello,

Thought I would introduce myself to the forum. My name is John. I

I'm new here. I did not study music (although I tried until double majoring with a physical science became to much), but i'm not completely inexperience. It is still one of my favorite hobbies (despite my hiatus from it for a year now.) I feel I should say this now.

Sometimes what I say can be viewed as misconstrued advice or elitism in one sense or another. I do not mean for my words to come out that way, but in my short time here I have noticed many regular posters are many years younger than I am. There seems to be a communication gap between I and people below 18. I'm not an ancient dinosaur (in fact i'm young) but for one reason or another that miscommunication problem does exist.

I plan to only post one review a day, because reviews are VERY important in music. I do not like the notion of reviewing more than one piece a day because every piece deserves a lot of attention. I hope you'll come to find my reviews helpful and insightful if nothing else amusing. Since my musical knowledge is as in depth as others I may be using filler words where there is indeed a technical term in it's place. However, I hope my meaning will be understood in regardless of this fact.

A slightly awkward introduction, but welcome nonetheless. ;)

Welcome also to: John, the hobbit guy, Kurt, Jason...

Hope you guys stick around.

My name is Austin and my boyfriend and I are working on a musical. I'm here to find a composer to join our team.

I'm almost 22 and Ivan is almost 30. I've been a theatre lover all my life and I forced Ivan to take interest when we first got together, about 3 years ago.

Besides the musical, I also write screenplays and I'm writing a play. Ivan works for KB Home, the nations largest home building company in the US.

Our musical, titled Willow Wild, is our first collaboration. We've finished the outline and I've started the book. Ivan is working on the lyrics. We'd like for the book to be finished by the end of March. If it's possible, we'd like to at least talk over the concept and direction with a composer to have his or her point of view, since neither one of us have any training in composition.

Then, once we find one that we want to work with, we'd like to do the next step. It'd be great to get a Las Vegas or LA area composer, since we'd like to work together, but if it's not possible, then we'll just have to deal with it.

If there's anything else ya wanna know, just ask me. I haven't described our show itself because I don't think this is the right thread to do it in.

Nice to meet you, young Lady.

Welcome to yc Austin, does your boyfriend have A yc account?

Nice to meet you, young Lady.

I love you Jeremy.

What girls do you know called Austin?

Way to try to make a point, and in doing so highlight certain points of your own character!

1.) I wouldn't say I know A LOT of them.

2.) Kindness in greeting?

I think it was hilarious. Back down on the political correctness and give him a loving break.

It's not political correctness (which I don't give a scraggy for); it's deliberately being a dick to a new member behind the false guise of friendliness. ;)

Edit: To Jeremy & al.: please feel free to continue this in another thread; I just don't want a debate in the Introduction thread.

If he's immature enough to not take it well, I'm sure it'll be no great loss on YC's part.

And I don't think he's even seen this thread after his post.

Wow. I'm not so offended as I am confused.

No, my boyfriend doesn't have an account. He works too much to surf the net.

I didn't think you'd be offended. Daniel has drunk that bitter cup for you.

Anyways, I'll discuss that further in the Daniel topic.

Greetings. My name is Gabriel. I seem to wear too many hats than is usual for most people. I write (I'm working on a manuscript for a fantasy book), I dabble in drawing and pixel art, and only very recently has my love of music taken a turn towards music composition. Although, I don't feel I particularly excel in any one thing.

I can't read sheet music. I can't play the piano with both hands (and, the one hand usually falters). My art ability is undisciplined as well, with no use of sketching/anatomy/what have you. My mother used to have a piano before she moved, so now that 88 key beast is sitting in my fathers house with me.

Bach is what drove me to compose. I became obsessed with fugues and his organ works. I think I must have a good ear, because I have an instinct for what sounds 'wrong'. Often, the mistakes I make encourage me to try to do something about them, though that isn't always met with success. Don't worry though, I don't intend on posting any of my work until I know how this place works. I'm the stranger here. I just don't know how much I'll be able to offer, having no formal understanding of music at all.

/end longwinded post. Err... I should apologize for that. A side effect of my love of writing/reading, I suppose.

Also, hello Austin! Although I'm not of that persuasion myself I have plenty of friends that are. Friends are friends.

Edit: I have to laugh, though, that I chose today of all dates to join.

Nice to meet you, young Man.

I too share a passion for Bach. If you desire to grow as a musician/composer, then I think you'll find this place a benefit. And don't worry about not being able to read music, it's not too hard. If you have any questions post them here and someone should be happy to help you out. I've learned a lot from others online.
