LoL, Norwegians rock.

Welcome to all you folks.

Post lots, show us music, and above all else, DO NOT BOW TO THATGUY. He is evil and will corrupt you horrifically. :D

My name's Jack. I'm new here!

I mostly like to write Jazz & Rock music. Though I also am a fan of the musical theatre genre, and have found joy in writing orchestral music.

Just signed up to this forum. Not sure how much I'll be able to contribute, but I'm hoping to learn a bit as I've never studied music formally. I got into composition / arranging & computers about 2.5 yrs ago, & I'm loving it. I've been playing celtic harp & classical / flamenco guitar, & some flute for over 20 yrs (lots of busking), & also did a lot of performing on lute instruments back in early 1990's. Writing & producing orchestral / film type music with a world influence is my greatest inspiration at the moment. Hope a few of the formally educated ones here can pick me up on any mistakes I may be making. One of my first serious efforts at orchestral composing is a Farruca (flamenco genre). Link to music is on my profile.

Cheers !

Hi there,

Hi! I

Hey everyone,

I'm a guitarist/singer/drummer/bassist/composer trying to make it through college. I enjoy composing music people don't like to listen to (heh.. kind of kidding... i mean the average person probably doesn't like my stuff because it's maybe too dissonant)

How is everyone?

Hey guys.

My name is Laura I play the flute I'm a 16 yr old (turning 17 in May) Jr. in Highschool. I play the flute and plan on majoring in music composition when I get to college.

Hi - I'm new to the organization and older than most of you (71). I'm primarily a writer and poet, but got interested in writing songs some years ago. I taught myself rudimentary music theory and compose and play the songs using my computer and Noteworthy notation software, a Soundblaster external soundcard and a very fine soundbank of orchestral instruments. I mostly write simple piano arrangements so I can accompany my singing with a CD or provide a score to an accompanist. I read and sing at poetry readings in my community and also take part in a senior choir.

My songs are mostly of a traditional type, with often a folksong feel. I feel I could use some critiquing and suggestions as to improving my arrangements. I'll be uploading a song or two for you soon.

Hey, I'm David (not really, but for my musical name, at least on here, it'll do). I play French horn, and some of my favorite composers include Mahler, Sibelius, Wagner, Tchaikovsky, Walton, Grieg, and Bernstein. I have composed for probably about 3 (?) years now, and am at work on my first symphony. My training in music theory is currently fairly basic (in my opinion), though I am trying to learn more and more, to become the best composer I can be. I hope you enjoy my music.

Hi all, I've been around for a week or so, but now it's late and I'm bored so I figured I'd introduce myself. My name is Brittnie; I'm a 19 year old with a decent amount of music theory knowledge and some playing experience (flute, guitar, piano... I'm no expert with any of them). My boyfriend (Sphere Nine/ Brad) convinced me to make an account so that I could post my first pieces... Hmm, I really enjoy Debussy and Beethoven, although I can't exactly say my style (or what has developed thus far) really reflects any of the composers or bands I like. That's about it for now.

clever signature starlady :P

Hi everyone, I'm Ben and I'm 16 years old. I first started playing piano when I was like 5 because my parents made me, but I really got into music when I was 13 and started playing viola. I completely fell in love with orchestral playing and I also really like playing chamber music. I started composing when I was about 13, teaching myself out of "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Music Theory." I'm still at a relatively beginning stage with my composing skills, but I want to become better. I'm mainly interested in writing contemporary classical music (but reasonably "normal" stuff, as I'm not a big fan of minimalism, atonalism, etc.) Some of my favorite composers are Tchaikovsky, Saint-Saens, Beethoven, Handel, and Rimsky-Korsakov. I also like listening to film music, especially by John Williams.

He has a girlfriend? :O:O

Are you somehow the female version of him? :P

Hey guys. New to the forum. I use Finale 2008, with several software symphonies. I must admit, though, I am not a "young" composer. Let's just say I am above 40! Samples of my songs can be heard at my site: [url=http://www.bigshoeenterprises.com. I do a good bit of orchestral/choral work also. Anyway, glad to be here.

Hey there, I'm Daniel from Australia.

Love to compose. Have been doing it as far back as I can remember. Have learned that the next piece is always the best.

Hi, my name is Walter Rhoads. I'm in the unusual position of finding myself a young composer at the age of 54! In January of this year, around the time of my 54th birthday, something odd happened--melodies started coming to me, though they never had before. I thought that all I had musically was voice (untrained) and appreciation, that composition was a gift I didn't have. But then something happened. Something got unlocked! I am no stranger to creativity, being a career artist (a painter) and sometime writer of fiction, but always thought composing music would be forever denied me. But evidently it was always there, gestating, or awaiting some enabling experience to allow it to be actualized.

I have written 21 songs in various idioms since then, and instrumental and vocal passages for a larger work that will, when finished, be an opera.

I am quite conscious that my work is somewhat derivative, and can pinpoint various works that seem to be "jumping off points," but the initial fear I had that I was somehow unconsciously regurgitating chunks of other people's music whole has by now been allayed...principally by the fact that, while the songs came very easily and quickly, the later orchestral themes seem to involve a greater amount of conscious choice and labor. (And even in the songs, when I recognized that there was too great a resemblance to a song that seemed to be a source, I would conscious choose to take the song in a different direction to make sure that it was something new and original.)

So it seems accurate to say that now, I am a composer. My worth as a composer is still difficult to judge, because I haven't brought anything, not even the pop songs, to completion yet. Oh, the melodies were there in a few hours, as were the lyrics. But nothing is arranged and adequately orchestrated yet--for the songs, there is no instrumentation, just the a capella vocal, recorded initially as a voice message on my cell phone, and then through a software audio program called Audacity. For the instrumental themes, I am creating "first draft" orchestrated versions using the software from Anvil Studio.

Despite starting an introductory piano class in January (not the stimulus of the birth of my compositional ability, but a response to it!), my playing is still so primitive I can't accompany myself.

I'm struggling with sight reading of notation; it is NOT coming easily. My academic understanding of time signatures, beats, and measures, is poor--I have some intuitive understanding, some natural rhythm, allowing me to keep time as I sing, but it's almost as though I'm not wired to understand the textbook version.

And while I can understand a straight-ahead melodic line, harmony and chords are still mainly beyond me, and countermelodies are further outside my grasp. I have experimented with chords and polyphony on Anvil--it's easy to construct something quite complex using the "Piano Roll" mode, which obviates the need for notation--and even come up with something that sort of works (a quirky little almost-ragtime piano piece), but I think I just got lucky. If a piece has more than one thing going on at the same time, I basically don't know what I'm doing. Fun though, and some learning is bound to happen!

So I am struggling, but finding this challenge a very fulfilling one. I've barely scratched the surface of what Anvil can do, having started with the free version in late February and then buying "The Works," the $99.00 full package, in March. It's my intention to orchestrate everything I've done, as soon as I can figure out how!

I've looked at the bios of notable composers and found many child prodigies, a few late bloomers, but NO ONE who blossomed as late as I did. I have no parallels to use as a model. But I'm used to going my own way, especially artistically. I will simply have to keep studying and growing at my own pace, even though some fundamental areas lag behind. Eventually they will catch up enough that I can read, write, and play my own music.;)

Hi,

My name is Francois. I live in Montreal, Canada. I try to compose symphonic music and music for musical show. I compose with Finale 2008a. Then I transfert the file to Sonar for mixing. I usually use fullGPO, JABB and ConcertBand all fromGarritan. I recently bougth Kontack 3 and was interested to EWQLSO Platinum bundle.

I don't know if the HP from Finale provide a good control of all the sample bank of EWQLSO.

welcome to :yc: :D:D

Welcome,

Sounds interesting Ive never heard of any one has discovered music as late as you have,

I hope you stick around!:)

My name's Jenn, I'm 16 (OMG!) I've been looking everywhere for a forum to post some of my music. I play piano by ear so basically anything I hear, I can play somewhat decently. I play a lot for school and for pleasure but nothing major. I'm not considering a career as a pianist or composer or anything.

I live in Seattle before I moved to Los Angeles...uhm...besides listening to and playing music, I enjoy playing video games, writing and drawing ( preferably anime.)

You'll find that I in no way aim for perfection when it comes to my playing. I can't read notes for my life (though I've never taken the time to really try) and I've never had lessons.

That's pretty much it :)

Hi!

I'm Pieter and I'm 19 years old. After composing for 6 years, I decicded to join YC. I am a pianist deeply influenced by Paganini (Liszt, Chopin, Mendelssohn and Schumann alike) and compose mostly in the Romantic style. As a (young) concert pianist I like to play works by young composers - contact me to have your works performed publicly in South Africa.

I also play the Recorder - obviously, deeply influenced by Telemann. PS :-)

I'm Cooper, from SLO California. I'm 18 years old and I'm currently at a community college.

I started playing piano when i was 13, and almost immediately started putting together my own melodies. I started composing in earnest about two years ago, all for solo piano, after learning Debussy's Children's Corner.

Summer 2007 I went to Interlochen Arts Camp on a piano performance scholarship, and took Advanced Composition as an elective. I got to write pieces for ensembles, which totally solds me on composing as a career.

I am now preparing my portfolio for conservatory applications.

Hi! I'm Jade.

I've been composing here and there since I was really little but I started composing for real when I was about 10. I'm now 14 and just finished my first concert band work about a year ago. I also started writing my musical! Yay! :)
