Hi. I just thought that I would introduce myself. I'm David Jackson. Are you people really "young adults" or are just adults that have retained their girl/boyish figure?

Anyway, I write songs. I like them, so I don't especially care if you don't, but if you do it will make me feel all warm and fuzzy on the inside. They aren't symphonies, most of them are just tone-doodles, but I like to listen to them. Hopefully, this will help me to be able to write songs for specific causes, like death, or something else. I think that I have set out to do that... twice. Once when I was trying to make a song that sounded like an early video game, and once to describe a particular indescribable emotion.

Should I post those songs in this forum, as part of my introduction?

Smiley --> :)

Are they actually songs, or are they pieces? If they are songs, good for you. If they're pieces.... Death. very, very painful death.

Hi, my name is David Jackson, I'm 15, and I like stuff. I've been composing for, I don't know, a year, maybe more. But anyway, I like my stuff. Eccentricly so. I especially like this one song, because... It's like being filled with Essence of Happy. New from Clinique. I just listened to it. I don't think that there is any way that anyone could ever listen to this song and not be smiling their butt, or more appropriately, their lips off by the end of it. I like it. Where should I post it? It doesn't fit any of the categories. It sounds like it is something from an early video game (like pong old), which is good because that is what I was going for. I like me. *hugs himself* (<-- In retrospect, woah am I a wierdo.)

It's like an instant-happy-sugar-high-thing.

Can I post it here?

Minor accomplishments

I play the piano, possibly the best person of my age in my school at least. I've been doing that for about two or three years. I like it, but I can't sight-read that well. I never play by ear, but I would work out the music slowly, and thus memorize it and play from memory. If I can learn to sight-read well enough, I can get into the jazz band at my school, which is like for the best instrumentalists. Is that a word?

My brother is in the band Megatron, which is okay but I don't like it. they're heavy metal, but better than anyone on MTV's "Slave to the Metal". I don't watch it, but he does, to make fun of them. He's probably the best guitarist of his age in like a 200 mile radius. Seriously.

I still can't get over that song. It's like musical Prozac.

Yet I am so jealous of that Maestro Akhal guy. Or I was, until the Happy Prozac!

Oh, yeah, I'm also a Christian, which I guess is important especially here because I believe that none of our talent is from ourselves, but is a gift from God. Like Bach and 'em did. Did I seem too proud?

I'm not really. Except of the Happy-PROZAC!

The temptation to go on one of my anti-Christian rants....

Why have you introduced yourself twice? Did you feel that we deserved the honor to get to know you two times? The introduction thread is for introducing yourself.

If you don't know where to post your pieces, just send a private message to one of thee administrators or moderators, and they will surely help you out.

Good day sir! :)

Baron Humnab, I think he meant 'pieces'. Shall we start sharpening various tools now?

Heh heh.

Yes. Let's. We'll start with sharpened compact discs, shall we? On the eyelids. And then, since you're such an expert at cutting reeds, I'm sure you could prepare some in interesting manners for various other parts of the anatomy...

Oh, I like that idea. I indeed have sharpening and cutting instruments for the cane. I also have a big box full of raw cane: plenty of sharp pieces of cane can be made! We could start off with some small sharp points for fun, then bind some together with brass wire to make a collection of sharp points. There's also the melted shellac, which would be a little like melted wax but a little worse, for it will retain the heat for longer.

Ah yes. And let's not forget all those interesting ideas we had for using theatrical lighting implements...

You could have borrowed my reed knife, but I'll have to use the cane myself; one piece of cane costs 25 kroner. And I usually break 4 of 5 before they can be considered oboe reeds. But hey, the thing I usually put between the reeds when I make them; it could be pushed up his eyes.

Well, anyways, welcome to the forum! :-P

A warm and welcoming comunity indeed...

Eirik, that seems expensive for one piece of cane! You could get the machines to gouge, profile and shape your cane then sell it to make a nice profit!

(The metal or plastic thing that goes petween the blades is a 'plaque' in English.)

I have some oboe cane *somewhere* if ever you want to buy some from me!

Nice to see everyone is not dead, although I feel as if I have just crawled from a grave.

For those who do not know me, I am Bex Dyran, a composer from the original young composers site. I'm a percussionist, violist, pianist, clarinetist, and lord only knows what else. I'm 23 years old, and have been composing for a while, but enjoy orchestation more than composing.

For those who do know me, I'm just drifting through. Might stay, might not. Don't know yet.

Welcome back, Lady Dyran...

A warm 'Hello' to everybody.

Firstly before I make my introduction, I'd like to express how happy I am to have discovered this site. After a brief scour of the forum and a listening to some of the works posted, I am left with the impression that I am joining a very vibrant and friendly community, full of talent and creativity. Already I have read incredibly insightful, interesting and helpful posts, and much enjoyed the compositions I've heard.

It's very gracious of you to let me post here.

My name is Ben. I'm 17 and live in Hertfordshire, UK.

I am currently studying A/S level Music and Music Technology and am a particularly keen student. I took up a particular interest in Composing when I discovered Cakewalk Sonar and started writing composition for my GCSE in music.

I particularly enjoy composing for orchestra and this is something I really want to develop.

Recently I have started some research on orchestral music which is used to tell/create abstract story, meaning or message, and this is something I would especially like to develop.

I also play the Trombone and currently I am working on Serocki's Sonatina fur Posaune un Klavier to add to my repertoire.

Outside of all the classical shizzle I play in a Ska band and enjoy writing music for that. I love heavy rock music too.

Anywayz. To anyone who bothered to read that, Ill see you around. I just thought it fitting to try and make a good introduction.

Ben :)

Hello, I'm Victor, and i'm an alcoholic.....

.... wait, wrong thing - sorry!

My name's Victor, i'm 17 in Georgia (USA), and I play piano (by ear only, I suck at reading music), guitar (acoustic and electric; acoustic better), and about ever brass intrument there is. I've been composing since I discovered Finale Notepad when I was 10ish and i've been arranging since I heard Michael Hung from Final Fantasy Reborn. My arrangements go from piano to full orchestra but stick mostly to video game music and movie soundtracks.

That's my music biography. Good reading right there.

Hello. I'm David and I'm me. I play everything.

Glad you're an alcoholic: I am too. Have you met the Baron of Young Composers? He's an alcoholic too.

What's your definition of 'an alcoholic'?

Analco Holic. He was the inventor of the term silicone.

Hello everyone,

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is John Carey. I do not compose professionally, as I am more focused on my true love - the piano. But still, for the last 10 years or so, composing has been an important part of my life. Until about 2 years ago, when I launched my first website, very few had heard my music. Now, my compositions are becoming more and more well-known among the internet community. I have recieved generous praise from people around the world, such as, "[The Symphony in C Minor] is one of the best contemporary pieces I have heard...", "...it's pretty rare to hear modern composers who have such a tremendous grasp of the craft of tonal melodies," "...[you] have an emotional affinity to Chopin and Rachmaninov...", and "...a brilliant blend between past elegance and modern emotion." I joined Young Composers to discuss composition with you all, the talented and knowledgable members who reside here.

So, here's my story -

I began composing quite young, in my early teens, inspired by composers such as Beethoven, Rachmaninoff, and later, Godowsky, Ravel, Gershwin and York Bowen. I composed for my own enjoyment, until it was suggested to me that I create a website where others could listen to my music. So I did so. Unfortunately, there were two major flaws with this website - the design was terrible, and the compositions were all general MIDI files.

About a year later, I took the site down and replaced it with a better one, www.johncareycompositions.com. Recently, I have purchased Garritan Personal Orchestra, and I am now busy recording all of my music with it. The MIDI files are no longer available. Unfortunately, being relatively new to GPO, it takes me a long time to record my music, because much of it has to be rewritten to fit the GPO samples. So far, I have finished some of my early Preludes for Piano, as well as my Symphony in C Minor and Piano Trio in F Minor.

My Prelude in C Major has been played on The Composers' Channel, and I am waiting anxiously for them to play more of my music.

My style is neoromantic, and greatly influenced by, above all, Rachmaninoff and Ravel. Much of my music reflects many American styles from the past, most notably Jazz. I find that Gershwin and Mahler's symphonies have also affected my music.

Anyway, here is what I have recorded so far -

Op. 1 - Preludes for Piano

1. C Major

2. A Minor

3. C Minor

4. Db Major

5. E Minor

6. F# Major

7. D Minor

Opus 3 - Piano Trio in F Minor

1. Adagio - Allegro

2. Adagio cantabile

3. Presto - Maestoso

Opus 4 - Symphony in C Minor

1. Adagio - Allegro

2. Andante espressivo

3. Allegro molto con brio

4. Adagio - Maestoso

Opus 14 - Orchestral Preludes

1. Db Major

2. C Minor

3. F Major

I'm not sure if I should creat separate threads for my different compositions, but for now, it isn't necessary.

If anybody is interested in really getting a feel for what my music is typically like, please listen to my Symphony in C Minor. It is a very early work of mine (written when I was 16), but it still should give you a good idea of my style as a composer.

Best regards, and thanks for reading,

John Carey

Hi there.

My name is Korneel, I'm 16 years old from Belgium and I enjoy composing in a rather philosophical yet atonal contemporary style. I followed masterclasses with some of Belgium's most accurate and well known composers, like Piet Swerts, Koen Dejonghe and Wim Henderickx. I play the piano, percussion (specialising in timpany) and I sing bass in a choir. I'd like to become a baroque director (alla Harnoncourt, Herreweghe, Hogwood etc.), but I still have a long way to go.

Please forgive me all my grammatical and writing errors, it's all because of my lack of English knowledge, as my native tongue is Dutch.

I compose since 1997, I was nearly 8 when my first piece (only 12 measures) was finished. From that point onwards I've written c. 50 works, going from left hand piano solo pieces (quoting Ravel of course) to huge symphonic works. On my website, which can be found in my signature, only my major works are reviewed and listed, however I'm planning to add some more 'minor' works in the near future.

On the pc, I've been using Finale 95, 98, 2000 till 2006b now, however I prefer Sibelius 4.1 (which I use for about two years - version 3 of course). I experimented also with Igor Engraver (too slow), Personal Composer (bad output, sorry), LilyPond (too much work for a rather descent score), and others. To make graphical scores (I'm working on one as I'm writing), I prefer CorelDraw and Xara, using the EPS-formatting.

I hope I'll be able to catch up here and start posting some messages about my music and my views about other's as well. Please don't shoot me! :-)

Sincerely,

Korneel

YAY!

I am a complete band for whatever style I wish to compose a piece for. I love to compose music and then record myself playing each instrument so that I can majorly overlap everything to be my band I like to call "Candi Cayne." I proudly use Finale for all of my compositional needs!

I guess I'll try to list all my instruments... but it's rather difficult. Here are some:

Trumpet, euphonium, guitar, bass, piano, flute, french horn, saxophone, percussion, harmonica, recorder, tuba, vocals (tenor and alto both full range, and I'm working on soprano), violin, oh i know i'm forgetting stuff, but w/e.

The reason I play so many is because I can never make up my mind. I stick with all of them though. I'm 17 and I don't even know what I want to get into a music consevratory as. It's good and bad, but I'm blessed nonetheless. All my music is 100% for the LORD, even if it's not about Him.

I could go on forever, I'll just end with my preferred genres... metal, classical, jazz. It's as simple as that.

YAY I'M SO HAPPY TO BE HERE!!!! It's 2:26 in the morning I'm tired... please excuse my enthusiasm. Thank you.

Oh, and I'm a PAID musician and composer, just so you know.

:)

Sorry, Mr. Cacabonita... It's just that...

Your name pfffffffffffffffffffff. AAAAAAAH! ;)

Not Ben, but c....... :D

You get it, don't you, Agnor?

:D Yes hardy-har it IS hilarious but I'd ask that you refrain from making snide comments about it please, we're trying to keep it friendly here remember? :)

Hi I am John Clyde! I am a junior in my music education degree, and I got seriously dumped one day last year by my girlfriend of a year! It was hardcore! She had sex with a guy! We were abstinant, but wow actually cheated on. So that destroyed my life and re-arranged my stars...I needed a new hobby.

It came to me one day when I was praying to Jesus not to hate her but love her and a theme popped into my head a very simple theme in Dorian. I immediately joined composing. I also picked up guitar in this period. I have composerd a dorian melody for two flutes and a trombone, a trumpet, euhponium and horn piece(written for christmas-an arrangment for church when I was still with the girlfriend) I feel like an infant, but one bristling with electrical ideas! My oboe piece was SWEET. I am now working on an epic poem for full choir and band on Coledridge's Rime of the Ancient Mariner. It is hard, but the ideas are coming.

I have loved music and especially harmony since the first time I heard a chord. I have been singing from birth, played violin in 4rth and 5th, euphonium in middle school, trombone in high school and college. I am also learning piano for the dumb proficiency test, and lead worship regularly in a presbyterian church and a community church....

One of my biggest regrets ever...Supertones and Five Iron Frenzy broke up and for that I am immensly sad.
