I've been composing electronic music out of San Francisco, CA for almost a decade. I have four albums available for free download (creative commons) on my website: www.generalfuzz.net. I mostly compose downtempo melodic instrumental electronica.

Hello.

Hello.

EDIT: Woowhooooo!!!!!!!!! (100th post)

Hey, Everyone!

I'm John.

I'm a Singer/Songwriter that just realized that Music is what I want to do with my life.

I guess I'll explain where I have been and what has brought me to my current Music-enthralled state of mind (If you wish to skip this dictionary, find the "******" at the bottom to see the main reason I joined this forum):

I've been writing songs with lyrics since the fall of 2006 when I started attending Towson University for English (which then became Film and then became Psychology...). I had written some instrumental works in Music Technology classes I-III in High School, but I had never really felt that what I could, writing music, was anything special.

I had Piano lessons from about the time I was 13 to the time I was 16, but I had been writing music before I "knew" what I was doing. Somehow, I was more interested in writing my own music than learning the music of others (I was actually having my piano teacher help me write down some of the pieces I was coming up with in my head). My parents made me quite piano lessons. I always would play the piano almost every day, coming up with instrumental things. Basically, music has always been such a part of me, that it never occurred to me that it might be something really important, or something unique to me that not EVERYONE else could do... I always assumed everyone else could improvise songs like I could... until I went to college, haha.

I wrote my first song with lyrics "Masquerade Ball" in the fall of 2006, my Freshman year, which a lot of people in my dorm complex, Richmond Hall, seemed to like. I performed "Masquerade Ball" in the 2006 talent show at Towson University... but I completely forgot the lyrics before I performed it and I had to check my facebook account behind stage to see what the lyrics were... I never want that to happen again! March 7th of 2008 I performed at the Towson Moose Lodge. I played while the bands (The Company, Three Tree Experience, and Vespertine Movement) set up and then I had a little 20 min segment later that night. The next few weeks involved writing songs and then getting in contact with certain people who agreed to be in my band-of-sorts.

On April 25th of 2008 I had a concert at Richmond Hall entitled "ONCE" where I played half the show with just me and then second half with my band. It was a great time and I learned a lot from the experience. This summer I'm going to be learning how to better read music and getting ready to audition for the Jazz/Commercial Composition Major here at Towson University while experimenting with different sounds as I continue to catch up to everyone else in their musical knowledge because I lived under the largest rock known to man... meaning, if you mention a band that most everyone else knows, there's a 50% chance that I've never heard of them before. Oh well, life happens, and although you can't decide when to wake up to life, you've got to get out of bed when you do and realize that although practice may not make perfect, it does, indeed, make better.

So that's my story. I want my life to be involved with music in some shape or form, whether it is my own music career as a solo artist, or if I end up getting somewhere with my band, or writing film scores, making musicals, or even writing songs for other recording artists and bands. I would like to any and all of those things!

The first year at

You can hear some of my works on my myspace: MySpace.com - John Tencer - BALTIMORE, Maryland - Other - www.myspace.com/johntencer

The things there are a little rough, but hopefully this Summer I will be able to get some better recordings.

I'm also on Youtube: YouTube - JohnTencer's Channel

****** Then comes the main purpose for me joining this forum: One of the requirements for the Jazz/Commercial Music Composition at Towson University is assembling a portfolio of compositions. As of now, I have all of my old Midi files and a brain full of music, but nothing final. I can use all the help I can get, so if any of you could give me any constructive criticism on any pieces I upload here that would be more than appreciated!

P.S. If you read all of this you are beyond amazing!

Thanks everyone,

John

Yay I'm amazing!! Well, like you, I didn't discover how much music was a part of my life until college either. I wish you the best of luck in your band and songwriting, hope you stick around!

Hi everyone I'm Sergio, from Mexico but right now living in Stockholm and I have been studying guitar and violin (but I dropped out :() since I was young. I've been composing for a while but until now I have the opportunity to put in a lot of time to it. I have studied compositon with Miguel Almaguer.. he has done mostly chamber and film music here in Mexico, and in September I will start studying with someone who studied with Stockhausen. I'll be attending Darmstadt this summer.. anyone going?!?

I'm right now composing a set of six movements for piano to be played hopefully there.

If you wanna check the intro and one movement for my piece.. check out the myspace.

Hello, my name is Ben Hollins.

Singer/Songwriter/Guitarist/Ocarinist?

Well, i play the Ocarina.

I am 17 and compose in MIDI (Using Guitar Pro) because i cannot afford all the instruments i use.

NOTE: Guitar Pro is not just for guitar, it has all kinds of instruments.

I have recently started fiddleing with Fruity Loops, and like to make techno.

Well, i look forward to contributing to this site, see you all soon.

Tight. I too use Guitar Pro to compose. Do you have RSE, too?

Hello. I would like to study music composition. How should I begin?

I would start with the wiki article on music theory, for one. The cited sites are very good.

Thank you. And once I've studied that?

Those sites have enough information and suggestions for further development that you shouldn't need any more for a very long time. But if you do.......um......go to school and get your B.M. in Music Composition.

Depends on what your background on music is.
