Hi Fred and welcome. I merged your post with the Introduce Yourself thread we have going here, which is dedicated to new member introductions. Keeps the place neat and tidy.

Welcome Fred,

Do you have red hair?

Hi, my name is Callum Au, I live in Blackpool, UK, and I play jazz Trombone. as well as jazz piano and adequate classical piano. I'm new here, recently started composing stuff for a video game my cousin is making, mostly for symphony orchestra. Before that I had done a lot of arrangements of jazz standards, but nothing really of my own.

Hi,

I am The Serendipitous Cacophonies. I do Serendipitous Cacophonies, that is, music where a lot of things happen by chance, sometimes with some cacophonic result (not always - the emphasis is on serendipity).

To date, I have 97 free, original mp3 here:

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandID=79134

All feedback is very welcome.

Because many things happen by chance, the songs tend to be very different from each other and difficult to categorize.

They are instrumental, 100% synth and are in a state of perpetual incompleteness...

Cheers,

TSC

P.S. - Info on new songs and updates is posted at the blog:

Hey everyone, I'm Tarik, 16, from Australia and am interested in a lot of things, one being composition ^_^

I've looked through many of the other compositions on the forum and can clearly see that I am below the standard here, but hopefully I'll catch up :D My main weakness if probably length, my longest ever composiiton is 4mins and that was because A) it was really slow, and B) because I had Hives for a week and had the time off school to do it.

I also tend to write simpler things than everyone else on this fourm (well the people I've seen). And it takes me quite a while to compose something good, if I'm just mucking around I can do it quickly, and it tends to sound better than my 'good' ones but that's only befcause I disregard instrument ranges, playability, complex harmony and stuff.

I hope I can fit in, I need some good comments on my compositions, the only comments I get are from my mum and dad. My mum loves anything I do, even if it's crap, and my dad doesn't like anything I do :P and says my mum only likes it because she's my mum... which is true :D

And if I posted a composition, what stops other people from stealing them? :o It's not like I've ever puiblished any. Not people from this forum I mean, but our compositions ARE being uploaded onto the net, can't anyone come here and take it and use it for a game they're creating or something and we wouldn't even know about it? :)

Tarik, Welcome. I'm new myself. Yeah, people could steal your compositions. Just like you can download a film or game without paying. It's sad, but that's the way it is. Usually if people want to use it for a game they'll send you an email, but sometimes that's just not the case. Fortunately if you hang around in some of the major gaming communities, and music sites etc. you can catch these guys sometimes.

Anyway.

I'm Chris Hurn, 16 (almost 17) and I live in New Zealand. I love filmmaking and composition. I'm in my final year of high school.

Currently I'm writing for four short films, which are for a competition. (DVXuser's Sci-fest) - US). I do music for wedding videos from time to time, I have a small contract which allows me to submit a track whenever and be paid for it.

End of last year I wrote some tracks for a demo which was pitched to investors and taken to game conferences etc. Currently writing for an adventure underwater RPG called Aquaria. When I leave high school () I will go to university (music, film), and continue to write music for video games and films.

There's some great stuff at this board, and I look foward to posting/listening to everyone's work.

My name is Jennifer McDaniel, I am 22 years old, I live in Flagler Beach, Florida, USA. Originally from Palm Beach (Jupiter Farms). I am a beginning composer. I love to play piano and compose music. I have played many instruments, a few of them I did quite well with, but piano is the one that really just clicked with me. I could just sit at the piano and play all day! I try to compose at least one piece a day, I started composing again around Christmas. I had composed 2 etudes and a reverie when I was in high school (I graduated in 2002), after that, I didn't compose anything until just a few days before this past Christmas, now I can't stop!

Other things I am into besides music:

Playing video games - mostly strategy games that make me think, such as Tom Clancy games, or any military based games. The Grand Theft Auto series is also fun, I have beaten all of them. I beat all 3 Splinter Cell games also.

Poetry - I have been writing poetry since I was 13, published.

Art - I am like a human photo-copy machine, I can draw anything you put in front of me, but in this aspect, I have no creativity to be able to make up a picture.

Martial Arts - 1st Degree Black Belt in Taekwondo.

College - I am currently a college student majoring in psychology and minoring in music.

Check out my blog if you want to know more :) www.myspace.com/jlmcdaniel318i (I know myspace.com has a crappy rep, but my site is clean, promise :P )

Looking forwood to post here :-)

Hi, I'm also Mike :D I'm 19 and a half... been composing properly for about 2 years but I've never really studied composition. I've studied music up to A-level and I play trumpet (grade 6) and bass guitar (grade 8).

I took a gap year to earn money and get 'real world' experience :) But now I'm a law student at UCL (Uni College London) leaving me with not that much time left for music :) But I do it as much as I can.

Hi my Name is Rafael and im 22 years old

Im studying at the Conservatory of Music in Puerto Rico

Im a tuba major in my final year and thinking about doing a 2nd degree in Composition

Hello everyone!

I am pretty new here from the past few days.

I have been looking for a forum like this for a long time, im hoping i can learn new knowledge of composing and other aspects of being creative with music.

I have been making music for a little bit more than one year now and i can definetly say that i enjoy the hell out of it. I've come to realise that i absolutly love making music. And i want to continue to develop my skills and knowledge of music.

My favorite style is Orchestral Smphonic Soundtrackish whatever. Its not really that important, i make music to satisfy my own creativity. But Soundtrack-style is what i do most of the time.

I am a 22 year old guy from Sweden. Currently i live and work in Holland in the exciting business of game-developing. Here i do art.

Anyhow, im going to post some more of my music soon.

Cheers!

Ok, I suppose I'll do this as well. *Tags along*

I'm Joshua and I'm 20 and have been playing the majority of my life, and composing nearly half of it. I use Finale for everything I do and want to grow old with limited means and then sell all of my scores when I'm old so that at least one person in the world will think I was an idiot for not doing it sooner.

Yeps, I'm a dreamer

Hey everybody!

Name is Steve; im nineteen, I love music and composing, but not as much as listening and performing it!

I am doing a Music Commercial Composition Degree at university and its a really great course.

I play guitar, a bit of bass, keyboard, harmonica and I just started learning sax.

I am a keen user of Cubase SX 2, and Reason 3.0. I just started using finale too.

But yeh I like Rock music and Jazz music but everything else as well. 'Cept for country and western.

I wanted to join here so I can meet people with interests like mine, so THATS COOL.

Hi, my name is Shadow. I enjoy music very much. The college I am thinking about is hart school of music or ithica college. I like different video games and tv shows. :whistling:

Hi, my name is William. I'm 13 years old and I've been composing "seriously" (well, not SERIOUSLY, but not just playing around" for about 4 months (I tried composing long before that, but it didn't work out too well :( ). I haven't posted anything on here yet, but I'm working on a few things that I think will be "Up to the Standard". I started a Horn Concerto today. When its done I might post it...... Anyway, nice to meet you guys! :D Awesome website!

-William

William - do you play the horn? If not, then I'd be happy to help if you have any questions about the horn's capabilities. (Not that I play it either, but I worked pretty extensively with two different horn players while writing my 1st horn concerto.)

Sup, my name's Mike. I'm 15(Soon to be 16) years old and while I've attempted composing music, I'll admit there's a lot I can improve on, before I can live up to my display name. As far as instruments go, I've been playing Alto Saxophone for 5 years and just recently started playing Tenor Saxophone in concert band, I also have some experience with both the guitar and bass guitar, I'm also thinking of learning how to play Clarinet pretty soon.

William - do you play the horn?
Sadly, no. I would love to learn how to; It's such a beautiful instrument......
If not, then I'd be happy to help if you have any questions about the horn's capabilities.

Sure, although I think I have a pretty good idea about its capabilities (At youth orchestra I looked at the 1st Horn's music. Also I know someone who plays the horn) although I'm POSITIVE I'll have a few questions about it when I'm writing the second and third movements. Thanks for offering your help! :innocent:

William

i just realized that i never actually introduced myself, a problem which in my mind should be atleast partially remedied.

my name is hillary chesher and i live in mississauga ontario. im 15, in gr 10 and rather hyperactive and on occasion cynical. i dont actually play any instruments but ill learn one soon (im a slacker). well... i can play a very little bit of french horn, but not enough to call myself a musician. ive tried some composing, but ive discovered that its something that doesnt really work for me. but i havnt given up so i came here in search of inspiration, interestion peoples and a good time

moof.

The name is Richard. 16 years old. Live up in the North, well not really, just Mississauga Ontario.

I'm just starting to compose seriously, and I know I'm pursuing a life of music. I'm applying to universities and collages both in Canada and the States like a crazy mad man next year.

I'm currently playing alto and soprano sax in a big band and several concert bands/wind ensembles. Also play the piano.
