I'm Contrabassoon. I'm from Canada. I like many composers; that includes non-classical. Composing is a fun thing to do, but sometimes it's quite difficult.

I'd love to stay awhile and listen.

Must be hard to type when you have no fingers or hands.

My name is Kyle Shipp, I'm a sophomore at OSU, I'm interested in composing and conducting. I think this is a great place. I've been playing since about age eight, and will probably end up posting a new choral work here.

playing...?

Welcome anyway. Conducting is, as I'm sure you know, unless you're Richard Strauss, considerably more taxing than playing.

well i should introduce my self, my name is sherief and i like to compose music. started as a hobby but started to take it seriously two years ago and great things have been achieved!

i have shared my first piece for opinion so check it out!

Hi, I'm Scott, from the U.S. I'm a multi-instrumentalist and composer - have been at both since childhood - attended Indiana University while majoring in composition until, to make a long story very short, a big boat came and snatched me away :o

j/k, it was a good thing - spent some time as a freelancer (playing/arranging/writing), as I do, once again. Piano and Trumpet were my first two instruments (started between age 2 and 3), but I also play a number of others, including theremin....I can think of something to love about a work from just about any genre/style... If anyone needs a musician to help realise their work, message me - if your needs and my free time coincide, I'll be happy to help :)

Anyhow, I think the 'boards look awesome, and I look forward to participating in this community :D

Cheers!

Scott/kroma

Hello Big World!!!

Happy 2009 to all of us! My name is Frist Clemings and I think I will dare to call myself a musician! (Gasp..). Ha Ha! I am so pleased that I have the opportunity to collaborate with the kind and knowledgeable people of this forum. I look forward to learning from all of you and hope to offer my views when I can. I am 25 years old and I play the guitar well, the piano passing, and the violin with a lot of....um..ambition? Hey, I'm learning. See you guys around!

Greetings comrades. I am an audiophile, musician, and composer. I play guitar and piano, and I dabble with other instruments such as harmonica and drums.

I am 22 years old. I became serious about music when I was about 17, starting with the electric guitar. After suffering a permanent injury to my left hand 3 years ago, I became interested in composing electronic music such as trance, hard trance, and experimental electronic music. Though I found those genres to not be my forte and lost interest, the endeavor prompted me to learn keyboard.

My new found keyboarding skills facilitated a gradual learning of music theory, which, along with the help of Reason, enabled me to pursue the composition of other genres of music. The activity of composing music now has a captivating force over my attention.

Among other things, I am interested in modal music, exotic scales, dissonant chords, odd chord progressions, polymelody, microtonality, synthesizers, melody mechanics, drone music, fugues, experimentation, and anything that hasn't been done before.

I am eager to participating as a contributing member of this community, and I hope to share in, and contribute to, the expansion of our musical lexicon

Hello comrade Matt, my name is also Matt.

Watch out for Romanticist he likes to do unholy things to new members.

Thanks for the heads up.

Hi

my name is Tomas Fridstrom and I'm writing from a cold and icy Stockholm, Sweden. Trumpet player since 1979. Writes small unimportant jazz peices. / BR Tomas F.

Tomas,

Don't be so hard on yourself.....jazz is never small, nor unimportant....so, share some of your tunes.

Welcome aboard!

:)

Hey everyone! I'm Elliott, from Natick, Mass. I'm 15 (nearly 16) and I play the violin, piano, and a teensy bit of clarinet. I write music mostly for orchestra, however im learning band arranging and im in the process of writing a work for clarinet solo, chorus, and strings. I play violin in the band (which is ok, we have 2 celli and a string bass) and im in a string quartet.

Hey, I'm Gabe, I'm 13 years old and i've been playing rock and alternative guitar since i was 6 years old, I am looking to start a band and am very excited to be here...

I play rock soooo... it doesn't seem as though I fit in too much with you pianists and violinists:whistling:

MattR-

I too am a Reason user. Welcome :)

Hi all--

I'm Maia. I'm a pretty bootleg instrumentalist (mostly self-taught piano, and a little bit of self-taught guitar), but I like to hope that I'm a decent musician. I currently sing in two choirs (neither is all that stellar, but both conductors are FANTASTIC), and one (soon to be two?) chamber groups. I love to compose, and have been doing so for... um... four years now? Whenever I find the time to, what with high school and all, and often at the expense of homework. Last summer was my first at the Walden School, a composition camp up in NH, and this year I'm finally getting me some real comp lessons. Oh, and I have a possibly-unhealthy obsession with solfege.

Let's be friends ^^

Hello everyone! Please stick around. Enjoy some Messiaen:

Hi

Hi everyone. I am Rahim. I am living here in the U.S (as I have for a good part of my life) but I am egyptian and I have lived there at various points in my life. I have been taking music lessons for piano since I was 3 but I did not start to compose until age 6. I consider my playing to excellent at this point and I take my music very seriously, however I only write down my compositions if I think they are of very very high caliber. The school i attend is for the gifted (so you can imagine the # of people with musical ability is very high) and I obsess over my piano technique so that I will be able to beat my peers in piano competitions. I look forward to meeting other composers my age so that I can learn from people better than me

(and eventually out do them) . I also hope that I will be able to collaborate with another composer to create a work of art.
