lavethion

Featured Replies

lavethion - named for the person that requested. This is for a strategy game just before the climax in a big bash-up. Its not too good - I spent a couple of hours on it, but I thought I might as well share it.I used freebies and LMMS like usual

lavethion

Wow... Really nice. I enjoyed listening to tis piece. Good work! Thank you fors sharing. 10/10 -Minoxor.

i hear some zimmer's in the beginning you sound somehow like him , and this is a compliment . i think it needs a lot of work to be done , you have great ideas but it gets boring eventhough its only 1 minute, its repeptitive through out this whole minute without any big twists , but its good , for a 2 hours work its really good ! maybe i got bored of it because the mix felt so dry , but as i said in a 2 hours work this is amazing! great stuff from you as usual

Please check my latest piece : http://forum.youngcomposers.com/t25017/variation-in-feelings/

Hey,

you've quite a nice tune there, which sounds kinda suspended because there's no real bass playing, is there? I guess this is inteded and I also think it's ok until 0:35. You've become very "big" there with the brasses, but I really miss a strong bass line there! Do you use tuba and contrabass there? If you do, you should rais the volume of them...

Anyway maybe the lack of strong basses is just a mixing/sample problem. Your percussion actually has a deep full sound, but especially your strings don't.

The trumped sample also sucks, but that's of course not your fault

At the end I defenetely hear tremolo contrabasses. That's always a nice effect, but you should fade in the volume more, your dynamics sound quite static sometimes.

So nice work, but you should spend a bit of time on orchestration and mixing.

Great work cheese, this here feels and sounds like a solid intro into something, but sadly I must say that I expected everything to explode in an ecstasy of rhythm and orchestration and go all wild and cabboom. No cabboom... me sad :( Kidding of course, but I really wish you continued this to an epic climax.

Nice work here, Cheese.

You need to spend more time on dynamics, you could stand to push up the volumes across the mix, and especially do some better EQ and panning work to get some broadness to the sound...right now it's very thin and focused and it's sapping all the energy out of an otherwise well-written cue. I would personally be inclined to add a bit more reverb to the mix too to tie everything together.

Nice stuff though, just tidy it up and you've got a solid cue! :)

Great work! I don't know what happened to my previous post here... but, I like this. Wasn't this the one that you wrote that was similar to Robin Hood or something?

cheeslord, i must say your latest pieces have some very good orchestration ideas, even though it wasn't enough "tidy" as marius said, it was very cool piece to listen.

and what is LMMS?

Hehe...sry for not replying earlier (had a busy week :( )

Empyrium: Thanks a bunch ;)

abd_zibdeh: I agree - it's a little on the repetitive side. However, as I said, it's to be used in game, so I doubt the player will much care.

olibrehm: Unfortunately, the bass line is one of my great sample weaknesses. All of my tuba's sound more cute than the baddass vibe there should be.I only have tremolo/staccato double bass too, so that's a problem ...

Phantom: I made the decision of not goin for a climaz since it's a big battel BEFORE the finale, so I tried to keep it exciting yet not quite as powerful as I would have liked.

Marius: TBH, I'm still very sketchy with EQing, so I'm still just prodding at it and jumping in gleee if it works  However, I agree with dynamics (I was using headphones on max. so it sounded OK, but when listened to with normal ones, it was a little quiet.

jawoodruff: Yup :D Glad you liked it!!

The J: LMMS is a free DAW (IMHO the only decent freebie for Windows) It stands for Linux MultiMedia Studio :)

Many thanks for feedback from all!!

GAHHHH! Hate losing my comments.

Lavethion or Leviathan? I"m confused :P

You had a good groove at the beginning. Why did you discard it?

0:19 sounded a little too sparse. Give it some backgrounds or some percussion or something.

The choir at 0:45 sounds kinda weird, like a rolling bass drum.

EDIT: It was tremolo contrabasses? Hmmm. Perhaps work on the mix like Marius suggested to get it sounding better. Prodding it's always fine :)

The ending needs to have bit more cool down time. If you wanted, you could even use your ending as a transition into a new section. But, as an ending, you need to make the last note longer. It's too sudden otherwise.

Nice work, Cheeselord! The reviewers are proud of you! Now work on tightening it up.

-John

This is really nice! It reminds me of an Age of Empire's briefing music or something  Kind of stereotypical medieval sound going on here, except I actually like how it comes together better than the AoE music. Something the Aoe music just...annoys me to no end, I can't explain it

But yes, it does feel very narrow because of the panning, I suppose. Broaden it out! Put instruments way in the back, far left and right, etc. :D You're so close! Everything's written out very well: just the sequencing needs work.

Gosh, I wish I could sequence at all! :(

Thanks for sharing with us, this was great to listen to

You really do some amazing work with soundfonts. I could never get them to sound this good.

Others have pointed out that the mix could do with some reworking, but the writing is great nonetheless.
