August 29, 201015 yr Hi all, Been a little quiet on the forum recently (real life is busy ATM) but yeah, here's another short one minute ambient cue I wrote. It's one of my personal favourite compositions ATM, but what do you guys think?? Like usual, it was made with freebies + finalised LMMS 0.4.7 (though I drafted out the idea with REAPER, yay!!) Thanks for listening, and hope you'll enjoy!! Transience
August 29, 201015 yr Howdy! I like the peacefulness of this. There's something oddly lo-fi about the sound though...did you encode it at a lower bitrate than usual or something? Anyway, the ending is especially sweet and soft and besides the cheap sounding strings, everything else comes together very nicely and quite convincingly, so congrats! :) Definitely among your better work, despite the length. Thanks for sharing!
August 29, 201015 yr Very nice! Not an electronic person (hopefully that'll change in the foreseeable future), so I don't have much to say, critique-wise. Except to watch your voice leading. For example, around :33 there's a pretty abrupt shift in the harmony, another one at :43. It's kind of a general trend, actually. Picture each line as if one person were playing it and ask yourself if it would seem smooth to you as that person. Enjoyed it quite a bit nonetheless.
August 29, 201015 yr I really like this. It's like a large *Sigh* which is just amazing. Very good work here as always, Cheesy. I think this is one of your best so far. I have to agree with peter, make sure to watch your voice leadings HOWEVER... without a score its very hard to say based on hearing exactly what your voice leading there is (ears are notorious for being deceptive!) Good work again, and I really enjoyed it! Thanks for sharing it!
August 29, 201015 yr Author Thanks for the quick responses!! Marius: Phew, I have no idea TBH. I think it's in a lower quality format, since the file size was a little small compared to others of this length, but I dunno, I'll have to dig a hole into the wilderness of audio quality :D And as for the strings, I suppose there's freebies for you!! Peter_W: You've lots to look forward to in the world of digital production, so good luck and have fun with that!! I was worrying about the voice leading, but finally decided that I wanted that slightly quirky chord sequence. Still not sure about it - but meh ;) Jason: Thanks!! TBH with you guys, I had no idea what the leading voice is. I did a few counter melodies and I guess it got kinda mixed up :/ ... but ah well, I'll have a good look tonight and see if I can figure anything out.
August 30, 201015 yr wow, definitely one of your best, i thought i was listening to a baroque piece played by pro's, very comforting sounding piece. you did it again !
August 30, 201015 yr Hey Cheese. Congrats, it's really sounding good, I have to say some of your work with freebies sounds better than some pieces done with commercial libs that you see around here. What I don't like is the fact that it's really linear, you have a single chord for each beat, I'm saying this because I often do this, but it's not good that way. Shorten them, lenghten, do some rhythmical displacement etc, everything will sound better when done tastefully than just plain ordinary 4/4 chord after chord.
August 30, 201015 yr Hey there, This is a nice ambient track. It would do good behind some images or in a game. However, as music on itself, I think it isn't interesting enough (even though it is this short). If you want this to be interesting when we listen to itself, it would be a good idea to have an instrument play a solo, or to have a clear melody going on. It was hard to find out what was going on now. Furthermore: I think it would be fun if you would play around with the panning a little bit. Don't overdo it, but for example try to have the bell sounds (celesta? glock? w/e) be the one time in your left ear and the next time in your right ear. That really increases that magical feeling and that look around everywhere in a new world, there is too much to see, etc :). To wrap everything up: I like your track! It has a nice warm feeling. Try experimenting some with panning, and maybe consider having a clear melody on top. Greetz, Hugo
August 30, 201015 yr Perfect. So peaceful, everything goes very well together. Seriously, great f'in job my friend. You've really grown
August 31, 201015 yr Nifty, Cheeselord. Calming in fact. The one thing I would add would be subtle melodic passages underneath the slow moving chords every once and a while. I just played Braid and they have some lovely ambient music doing exactly. Slow chords and some faster stuff on top to keep our interest. Nice work, man!
August 31, 201015 yr hey cheeselord! very lovely piece! relaxing and calming , i love the chords at around .44/.45 . i dont have any comments about anything as there's nothing to say other than its a very good piece !
