Okay, so we all know about just a regular diatonic scale, and chromatic scales, so what about other scales? What are your favorites?

Vote in the poll!

Heckel

Is norwegian the same as lydian dominant/mixolydian #4?

I like the ones with lots of halfsteps

Basically. It's sharp 4 flat 7.

well duh that's what you said in the poll. but is it an ionian sharp 4 flat 7? or aeolian sharp 4 flat 7?

if it's the former please call it either of the two appropriate terms in my previous post

I missed the 'normal' phrygian' scale

Chromatic, since it contains all the other scales which I can get by removing tones, haha!

how about 17-ET?

Mixolydian B6...

In and of itself, probably the Jewish/Arabian scale. Dunno what its technical name is. Major scale with b6 and b9. I think it just sounds so cool. And it's flexible, the 7th can be flatted if necessary.

For practicality in writing, I'd say WT or octatonic.

For improvising, pentatonic. :P It's an easy way to sound really good.

how about 17-ET?

I expected this, but in 17-TET, when you take all the 17 tones, you get a chromatic scale (obviously, not a 12-tone one). So you can apply my reply here, too. ;)

Ok, so you meant chroma in the sense of all 'colors' of a particular scale?

I believed 'chromatic scale' was a technical term that applied (only) to the 12 tone scale :P

i only like scales where the frequency goes up by lim(1/x) as x->00 each tone

C3nts pl0x?

I'm not seeing the melodic minor scale as one of the choices. (That's my favorite.)

you need to put other, there are thousands more scales not listed. Personally I think panthuvarali might be my favorite. If Sa = C then

C Dbb E F# G Ab B

Guys. This poll is a year-and-a-half old. Feel free to let it die and start you own thread - in which you're welcome to include as many scales as you see fit.

Why start a new thread just because this one is old? Did the scales change that much in the meantime :P ?

I heard something in C major on here that sure didn't sound like any C major I've ever heard before...so...yes, I guess. lol

People still use scales?

Is that supposed to be a joke or some posh remark about how innovative you are?

Well played

Favorite scales...?

I'd guess it's Wayne-Scales.

Oh you...

I sometimes say the octatonic scale is my favorite, so I voted octatonic .....but they all have their place.
