Roseland

This is my first and so far only minimalist piece. It's minimalist not only in the content but also in the instrumentation. It's only violins and piano. I withheld the effort to beautify it by way of orchestration or fill out the strings or add embellishments of any sort. It's sort of a stylized Mantovani, who is already stylized in his dreamy string writing. So, it is ironic that the greatest effort I put into this piece was that of restraint. I did the video as well.

Wow! I have to admit when I read that this was in the style of Mantovani I was immediately interested. I love that "easy listening" sound that Mantovani brings to the table.

I love the sound of the harmony in this piece especially the clusters from what I hear.

This piece does feel like it also takes you on a journey with the pictures and the pauses in the music. The part around the five minute mark made me nervous :P

My only criticism about the piece is that it sounds a tad dissonant to be compared to an arranger such as Mantovani.

Also, from what I've heard of Mantovani, he does a lot of Jazz standard arrangements that are much shorter in length and rely more heavily on orchestration and sharing the melody with different instruments.

Those are my thoughts :)

Hi. It's 7:00 am and I have to go to work... But I started listening and couldn't stop.

This work is moving. I love your dissonances, bringing tension and interest. I wouldn't say this is minimalist, but it doesn't matter. The way you recreate music with pictures (or viceversa) is wonderful. You simply put fixed images, but there's a story within.

Good day.

Thanks, Guys for your thoughtful comments. It's not Steve Reich, that's for sure. Maybe it's just my own kind of minimalism.

Very beautiful! I really kept listening and that's a good sign,It got me interested throughout the piece. I like the changing moods. There seem to be a lot of thoughts. I agree with Luis that It doesn't sound minimalist, but it doesn't matter. As you said, maybe it's your own kind of minimalist music, however I don't care about genres, I love this music and that's the only thing that matters to me :) I wouldn't mind If you post more pieces like this, It's a pleasure listening to it :)

Thanks for your comments, Oliver. I have similar music in the film category, and will be posting a few more.

Would you consider this music minimalist? I would. It has the same sensibilities as my work. I'm curious as to your thoughts about it. Are we now getting into post-minimalist minutiae and whatnot?
