January 5, 20179 yr First of all; best wishes for 2017! For my audition for pre-study at the conservatory with classical saxophone I played the Cinq Danses Exotiques by Jean Françaix. I fell in love with his music. On account of Françaix' music I composed 3 Melodies for Alto Saxophone and Piano, Opus 25 (Dutch: Drie Melodieën voor Altsaxofoon en Piano) today. Feedback and sharing your opinions would make me very happy! Kind regards, Maarten Bauer

The pieces may be indeed too short, but I did not know how to develop the melodies in a way, I liked and sounded natural. I already developed the themes in this short time and did not want to 'over-develop them'. May I ask; what do you think of this composition (considering style, use of instruments, form) comparison with my other uploads, you have listened to?
January 7, 20179 yr You can develop with just the stuff you already have which is really good. See how you can augment, diminute, retrograde, invert your melodies. Listening this work, this could EASILY be a 16 minute work. This can be done because your source material is excellent
January 7, 20179 yr The style is interesting and modern, and it all seems pretty well executed. The content here is really good, and there are a few examples of imitation between the voices that I particularly enjoy. But I have to agree that there is a disappointing lack of development of the themes you present. Each piece seems to just stop before it's reached a satisfying ending. That is the only flaw. I understand you are afraid of overdoing it, but I'd really encourage you to take some time to play with the themes and find new and exciting ways of presenting them. Development can be quite fun in my experience. cheers!
