Canon in A

Recommended Posts

This is a Canon that I have composed for String Septet (2 Violins, 2 Violas, 2 Violoncellos and 1 Double Bass).

This is absolutely "Pachelbel". But with 7 instruments instead of 4.

I think the structure is good, because this is a round. Although the voices don't enter one by one (in measure 7 they all come in), I hear clearly how the voices go one after the other.

Howeer, I would have used less instruments because there is no sense that sometimes there are doublings. The final part, with all the voices in parallel, homophonic, in my opinion, breaks the sense of canon. Yes, I know it's the end, but counterpoint is just that: counterpoint.
