Frustration - Quartet for Violins

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I am quite frustrated doing revision for a midterm exam, so I write a short excerpt (incomplete) for 4 violins:P Nothing more about that haha

Please tell me it's a good theme for a separate piece:) Thank you!

Regards,

HoYin

A bit too much dissonances for me for violins, though I liked 20th century pieces besides classical music.

@ilv Thank you again:) That might be some SoundFont issues but I did write all notes not lower than G3. I think it would be better if I play it - I write this piece for 4 violins so I can record a piece of mine by myself, finally. :grin:  Definitely requires some practice, though. (It has been a tough time for me to find a good string library, so I may give a try on the instrument)

@zhenkang Thank you for the idea. I guess one problem of this excerpt is that I used too many dissonances that are too close? Like I have used some second's or seventh's in the same octave. Is that the issue?

@HoYin Cheung

I think it sounds nice.

Keep the dissonances. It lets me down when I hear people say "your composition sounds bad because you can't put a 13 in a major chord, it's an avoid".

I mean, everybody makes mistakes once in a while, but if you meant it- don't change it. That's the way you see it, it's your music.

Other than that consider that in normal voice leading voices tends to move as little as possible.

You don't have to make it so, but think about it.
