Debut piano album

Featured Replies

Hi everyone! I just released my debut piano album on 25th of October, so it´s still very fresh. It contains 10 of my original compositions and 1 re-make of an 80´s pop song which I´ve made on a request of the artist himself. Please take a listen to the full album here and let me know how you like it!

If anyone would be interested, you can buy the album here: https://oliverbohovic.bandcamp.com/album/ballerina

Absolutely wonderful.

It's perfect to listen to at the end of a long day, like I am doing now. I love the harmonies and the soothing effect this has on me. Well done.

Nice relaxing piano music. It sounds amazing alone. Good for concert purposes, though it could act as background music too. Interesting harmonies and tonalities. Some classical, some more modern.

Some small things to look at:

The sudden tempo changes at 9:20, 31:08 and 31:28 were rather unsettling.

The bit from 30:50 to about 31:10 lacked the harmonic complexity of the rest of the music.

The song in B Minor (can't name it), was a bit too repetitive because there was a motif that was repeated something like three times. That's the spot where there's unsettling tempo changes.

Leap of a 9th at 35:38 sounded kind of awkward, not a big deal.

At 38:12 and 38:20, E Minor root and F-sharp Major root triads would be preferred over A Major and F-sharp Major first inversion position triads.

Unnecessarilly long pause before end of B Minor song.

39:15: Due to the presence of a Bb in the melody, a B-natural in left hand should be changed to B-flat.

Nice rubato use in the song after the B-Minor one and others.

43:57: right hand could repeat the last note for a more authentic ending.

49:02, A4, seems impossible to fit in there. Shouldn't it be A5 instead?

During the last note of the second-last song, the left hand can continue with its pattern a bit more.

Not a criticism, but a cool fact about the last song is that a modified version of "Ode to Joy" woven into it.

56:30-35: the left hand could play a 4-note-per-beat figure in stead of a 3-per-beat one, which would fit the rest of the piece better.

Great job!

Wow, thank you once again for such a detailed review, I appreciate very much that you took time to listen to it in full! Haha you´re right with the Ode to joy, there´s actually a funny story behind this. This song is a re-make of a 80´s pop hit in my home country Slovakia. I was asked by the artist himself to do this re-make and actually his song had this Ode to joy melody in it, so that´s why it´s on my re-make too :)
