Andante For Strings in C# Minor

Featured Replies

It reminds me to Vaughan Williams, in the thick textures.

The sound doesn't help much beacause it's a kind of shortened bowing that don't go well with legato (to my ears).

Some counterpoint (countermelodies) will be good.

I really like the music and harmonies!

Some tips:

  • Place the flute above (not below) the strings). In general, the score needs to be looked at again regarding lay-out.
  • Articulation would help!
  • Why do you call this an Andante for string when it includes a flute? The flute part is very minimal, so you either could just leave it out or give it some more notes to play. In my opinion, the flute adds a nice texture to the music.
  • As Luis said, some counterpoint cannot do any harm.

Good luck!

Thanks for your feedback everyone!

@Luis Hernández Listening back, I definitely used the wrong string patch, and it really doesn't do the piece justice. I have since upgraded to LA Scoring Strings and will probably release a version with that patch. I also agree about countermelodies, I will probably revise this piece after I finish a larger project.

@Maarten Bauer Appreciate the tips greatly, I'm still new to scoring and so I wasn't sure what the layout should be.

@Kvothe I screenshotted parts of the score, then put them together with the track in Final Cut X
