Scherzo no.1 in FM

Featured Replies

Here an Scherzo I wrote in early Classic style with ABA form.

Elegant but simple, two things not so easily brought together in a single piece. Great job, Guillem!

Very nice, elegant and simple as the illustrious commenter above describes it.  Though I always think of a scherzo as a faster tempo work, this sounds more like a minuet.

A very charming piece. I love how to B section has a darker feeling but not to dark that it would unbalance the piece. The appogiaturas I think work very well with the context of the  piece because they give a more dance-like mood (or at least for me) .Overall I think it has a great proportion. :)

Really enjoying piece. The cadence of minute 0:52 feels weird to me. But cool work.

I first thought it should be a minuet, but tempo da minuet I think is somewhere around 120bpm. That's faster (210bpm), and the character is more scherzo-like. But you are right, some Beethoven's Scherzi for exemple have much faster tempo, and also there are minuets faster than other...not sure where to set the tempo line beetwen minuet and scherzo😅

Maybe someone in the forum can help us.

I wasn't sure neither of it should be written as 3/4 or 3/8...I guess both are right, and just depends on the tempo you play it.

This piece is fantastic.A very pleasant piece. I feel this piece would work really well in a larger scale work such as a sonata perhaps. though of course that is up to you. I thoroughly enjoyed the relatively simple motifs being used and it has a strong sense of fluency throughout the piece. really impressive well done.

thanks @Bradley Scarff!

Yeah, that's one of my ideas to include it as a 3rd movement of a piano sonata. I have some ideas for the 1st and 2nd movement, I just have to work on it for a few hours 🙂

Take your time with a sonata. especially to get the motifs in a first movement worked into each other fluently. remember it took the great composers weeks or months or even years in some cases to complete their works.

Pretty elegant and well proper-styled

Just an extra little note perhaps the change the metronome mark from quarter note 210 to half note 105? it'll make it more accessible to performers. 🙂

I think you mean de dotted half note at 70bpm. You are right, it's more natural to follow the tempo to the dotted half note. That's updated. Thanks for the note! 😉
