I wrote some songs for violin and piano based on poems of the árabo-andalusí centuries. Yes, the arabs took Spain from the year 711 until 1492, and left a big and beautiful cultural legacy that is currently in our language and culture in general. These songs were written some years ago but now I have gone over them, arranged them and fixed some mistakes due to inexperience (I still am an unexperienced composer, but less).

This poem was wrote by Abu-L-Qasim Al-Manisi in the 112th century. I tried to translate it into English:

Good structure, the piece flows nicely! I like the opening chords, and that they're labelled for easy perusal (though I don't hear an Em7 in there!). The piece being in five sections, I like sections 2 and 4 the best overall, the jazzy chord progressions and melody are most convincing there - in the opening section I have a harder time latching onto the melody and making out the chords. I like the melodic embellishments in section 4. Also, thanks for translating that poem into English, very poetic!

This piece has it's charm amidst quite a few crunchy musical gestures.  Your harmony very often sounds augmented to the ear.  But there is definite logic to it - there are tones that lead to the resolutions it seems from both above and below.  I enjoyed this piece much more on second and third listening.  You also use repetition quite effectively and in this particular piece it sounds like you are in a definite key (Bb minor I think).  Is the main piano gesture that starts the piece meant to symbolize the rain?  I can imagine this piece with the sound of the wind in the background (and maybe rain as well).  Thanks for sharing!

@BritishCompositeur Thanks! Sometimes harmonies are a bit ambiguous. Many times I think about not putting them on the score, but some people like to see what's happening. You're right, that opening Em..., needs rewriting, I'll fix it before the "ultimate" version.

@PaperComposer Thank you. Yes, I know I like to work more on harmonies than any other thing, but I like it as a way to go out of the "mainstream". The piece is in Bb minor and the second section in A maj. In fact, this is part of a set of pieces I wrote inspired in ancient poems like the one here. All of them of the 9th to 14th century. What I had in mind is the imagined atmosphere of those years here, the "mediterranean" scales, etc...
