January 10, 200719 yr Who is a better composer? They both composed wonderful music for their respective instruments, but who's music's better?
January 10, 200719 yr i find the majority of paganini's music unlistenable, good for exercises maybe, but i couldn't listen to it for pleasure
January 10, 200719 yr Probably the best piece of music Paganini ever wrote was the second movement of Violin Concerto No. 2. La Campanella, a few of his guitar pieces are alright as well. But like I said, I feel that the majority will agree that Chopin was a much better composer.
January 10, 200719 yr Author You guys just don't live and breath violin, do you? I bet you are all pianists, :D but I agree with you. (though I did vote for Paginini)
January 10, 200719 yr You guys just don't live and breath violin, do you? I bet you are all pianists, :D but I agree with you. (though I did vote for Paginini) Hey guess what? I'm a violinist as well
January 11, 200719 yr Paganini gets credit for intuitively redefining how the violin was supposed to be played, with violence and screeching sforzandos. Chopin lasts because he introduced the romantic touch and found a new sonority in the modern piano. I suppose both were technically brilliant, but Chopin wrote music that people would actually listen to. Chopin is indefinitely better, there is no competition. I am sure you meant 'infinitely,' mate.
January 12, 200719 yr Chopin, is the better composer, but i believe paganini is the technique master. The guy used to cut 3 of his strings and play his caprices. thats impressive.
January 13, 200719 yr I think he was just trying to show off. Would you playyour own compositions on a piano with 11 keys?

But like I said, I feel that the majority will agree that Chopin was a much better composer. I'd say the best piece of Paganini is the 3rd mov. of the Violin Concerto No,2 in B flat minor: "La Campanella". Salvatore Accardo is a very talented violinist, indeed.

January 14, 200719 yr I think Paganini was the greatest violinist and Chopin was one of the greatest pianist. Eh, I've heard other pianists that I would rank as better, judging from the complexity of the works they performed and actual recordings of their playing. Prokofiev would beat Chopin in a piano contest, I think.
January 14, 200719 yr Prokofiev would beat Chopin in a piano contest, I think. That's quite possible. But Chopin was an astounding pianist. But he was a weakling. He envied the strength of the fingers and arms of other composers and pianists. He could play extremely fast if he wanted to. But not very loud.
January 30, 200719 yr chopin was a far more complete composer. Although he only wrote for the piano, minus to concertos, his music is so varied and colourful, and NEVER is a note played in the wrong place, it is flawless in my eyes (ears maybe?:-S)
July 3, 200817 yr paganini reminds me of the violin version of liszt, more techinique than soul. i think chopin's music is obviously more soulful.
