My Favorite classical piece is?

I see in the posts: favorite composer, sonata....etc.

How about favorite piece?

Mine is Prokofiev's 3rd piano concerto.

Followed closely by Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade.

To me, both of these pieces delve into the human emotions with an expertise I only have in my wildest dreams.

My only regret of being born when I was, is that I never had the chance to see Prokofiev play.

Anyone else?

So, I have sort of done this before. This list comes from the "Most Painful Musical Pieces" thread, but since I did not stictly stay to that category when I made it the list then serves as my favorite pieces list as well. The thing about these pieces is that they evoke an emotion. It could be happy, sad, enthrallment, solemness, or just a super sense of beauty. The list consists of moments and entire pieces of my favorite film scores and favorite classical pieces. It is not a complete list, but it is most of my absolute favorites.

The Grey Havens from Return of the King by Howard Shore

My fav is Sinfonia Concertante in E flat for Violin and viola by Mozart.Every movement a stunner. The rest I cant decide. It would be intresting to know what you think about this lot...

These ARE NOT in rank order,I simply cant decide between this lot.

1.Mozart,Piano concerto 23 (especially the Adagio)

2.Shostakovich symphonys 4 and 7.

3.Mozart symphonys 40 and 41.

4.Beethoven Violin Concerto

5.Beethoven Piano concerto 5

6.Rachmaninov Piano concerto 2

7.Haydn Emperor String Quartet

8.Beethoven Moonlight Sonata (especialy the Presto Agitato)

9.Mozart Piano Sonata in C and sonata in A minor.

10.Saint Saens Symphony No. 3 Organ

11.Brahms Violin Concerto

12.Elgar Cello Concerto

13.Mozart Violin Concerto no. 4

14.Vivaldi Lute concerto in D

Phew!those are only the ones that instantly spring to mind. They are all very common, although most people would of gone for Rachmaninov concerto no. 3 rather than 2.Speaking of spring, I forgot to add the four seasons.........

hmm....well my favourites are

I apologise in advance for the lack of accents and circumflexes in what I'm typing. I don't know how to do them on this computer lol

"Mars" from Holst's the planet suite

"The infernal Dance of King Kashchei" by Stravinsky (sadly I haven't heard the rest of the Firebird)

Debussy's "Nocturnes" (Nuages, fetes and sirenes)

"The Sorceror's Apprentice" by Dukas

Eric Whitacre's "Ghost train"

I could go on for ages about Edward Macdowell's pieces but I'll restrain myself hehe

"Carnival of the Animals" by Saint-Saens

"Les Animaux Modeles" by Poulenc

"Baba Yaga" by Liadov

"The water Goblin" by Dvorak

"The Rite of Spring" again by Stravinsky

"Maple Leaf Rag" by Scott Joplin

"Slavonic Dances" by Dvorak

Most pieces I like as you may have noticed aren't very old. There's just something about most older pieces (by people like Mozart, Vivaldi etc) that I find hard to identify with but I can see why most people enjoy them
