November 23, 200520 yr Alright, I went and saw the new Harry Potter movie and I was really looking forward to some new music, but I was quite disappointed. I was expecting a bit better from Patrick Doyle, but it just didn't happen. The part I was most disappointed about was the ending credits where they had some cheezy rock guy sing some song. It should have been a big orchestra ending in my opinion. Maybe Enya, but not rock. I was truly open to the composer, but he disappointed me. I didn't think he did a very good job arranging "Hedwig's Theme" either. Hopefully, he can do a better job on the upcoming Eragon film which is due to release in December of 2006. Anyways, vote in the poll and tell me what you think.
November 24, 200520 yr I haven't seen it yet. But knowing that they are going to have rock music at the end may just prolong this seeing harry potter. What is it on 4 now?
November 24, 200520 yr Author Yes. It's number 4. Don't get me wrong. The movie is great. It's the music I'm disappointed in.
November 25, 200520 yr Well I lied about the prolong thing. My grandpa is taking me and my sis to see it tommorow. Though once I see it we can discuss how horrible patrick doyle is compared to john williams.
November 29, 200520 yr :glare: I saw it and was quite a bit impressed more than I thought I would be. There were some spots which I felt didn't fit in at allll! And Patrick has a lack of melody but makes up for it in orchestration. His interpretation of John's Hedwigs theme wasn't the greatest but I think Patrick wanted to be original, So instead of making it light and fast, he made it slower and heavy. (especially when he had those violins on that G wow that may have been a bit too heavy.) Overall it is a great movie and has already grossed in I think 200million, so with that said Help Harry get rich!!
January 13, 200620 yr Hmmm... I heard it, watched the movie twice (don't get me wrong, I saw it a second time only because a friend wanted to see it once and needed a friend to go with.) I was kinda disappointed with the soundtrack. First off, alot of the more major music was completely unfitting. The little thing with the mermaids and whatnot sounded happy and cheerful, while it really shoulda had much more of a mystique and threatening mood. Also, at the Yule Ball, they had this rock song. The song was all out terrible, and lyric-wise it was even worse. So ya...
January 13, 200620 yr Is Patrick Doyle really going to do Eragon? Oh, no... The movie industry is doomed... :) Let's just assassinate the guy while we still can. You know, just small lynch mob, nothing too fancy. :P
January 13, 200620 yr Author Yes, he is composing for "Eragon" (By: Christopher Paolini) which is due to release in December of this year.
January 14, 200620 yr ok, there´s something you guys need to know before we get upset..... first of all... the ending credits of every movie, not always but most of the times, have a soundtrack song... or a ROCK band playing some tune that the production company that produced the movie bought..... now, something else... Patrick Doyle sinchronized everything so perfect... scoring a film is very different than just writing for yourself... you have to really focus on the characters and sinchronize the frames and spaces of each section that you might find appropiate.... john williams, an excellent composer, was not that good of a sinchronization guy.... patrick doyle did very well on the sync... what else?, well, in most movies (almost all of them) the composer is not the same guy who "orchestrates", just to clarify... conclusion, i´ve been sinchronizing short films and video projects so I really know what I´m talking about, but I have never scored a big budget film, therefor my opinion doesn´t really count... but based on what I know from this area, do some research and you´ll see how wonderful of a piece patrick doyle did... :)
February 21, 200620 yr I agree with eldeni.....i hav not shown this forum to my dad but from my own knowledge i no that my dad has dun an excellent job on harry potter.
February 22, 200620 yr I have two words for Mr. Doyle - AURAL SKILLS - the theme at the beginning threw me off SO MUCH - because it was WRONG. Notes, wrong. How could that happen? Easy - lack of Aural skills.
