12th CGEmpire Music Competition - sponsored by SIR -

Featured Replies

Hello all,

The new competition has been posted in the CGEmpire thread

This is a rather special competition so it's worth a few minutes explaining.

My friend Ilias Sounas has made a lovely little animation short (around 3 minutes). The theme of this competition is to provide the music score, or maybe the sounds as well, or anything you wish really, to this animation.

The competition is anonymous, and the winner is picked by public voting. Deadline is the 1st of December 00:00, London time. In order to participate you will need to send me (Nikolas) an e-mail or a PM with a link to your entry, which needs to be anonymous, otherwise I will need to rename it.

What is most rewarding in this competition, apart from winning, of course, and getting your hands on the great Reverb offered from SIR Reverb is that all entrants, can use the animation short to their portfolio and for promotional purposes, as long as the animation designer (Ilias Sounas) is clearly credited and there is mention of the CGEmpire Music Competition. For me, everyone is a winner at this. You don't get your hands at such a quality animation short to score, and then use it in your portfolio. ;)

For more analytical information please visit this thread.

The sponsor is SIR Reverb, who are offering a free copy of SIR2 Reverb (retailed currently at 149 euros).

SIR2 is an easy to use native audio-plugin to use for high quality reverberation. It offers zero-latency processing with low CPU-consumption and non-destructive audio processing of impulse responses. SIR2 includes high definition impulse responses (HDIR) of *real* places produced by Pinguin, Hamburg. You can also use various impulse responses from free or commercial sources.

Cool competition. We're on it.

Just watched the movie: now we can finally try our space-themes off hehe ;)

SIR II sounds awesome!

This is a beautiful animation. And an intriguing challenge. Given the time, I'm in!

Oh yes. Most definitely in.

I'm envisaging a cross between the Flaming Lips and BT's All That Makes Us Human Continues, with orchestral influences and lots of weird noises...

EDIT: Are we allowed to change the speed of the video? It would only be in a few places and not by much...

I'd imagine not.

The only score I can remember that happening is the last 15 minutes of E.T. also it would give you an unfair advantage. Best just to change the tempo of the music...

Also, count me in for the competition.

Sorry, no. :)

By the way guys, I'm really glad to see you interested in this competition :)

Yeah, I guessed not...

I'm having a bit of trouble with my entry. I've got two pretty good ideas, but they are totally different, and I mean totally. Gonna have a hard time transitioning between them...

And I'm sure one of the melodies has been written before...:(

Feel free to post it here, I guess. People will be helpful, won't they?

do we have to be a member of that site? or can we just send it to you through here

You have to be registered in CGEmpire, but it's free of course... (it goes almost without saying).

The voting is for the public and if people don't know who you are, cannot award you if this is the case (or used to be since now the voting is anonymous and secret as well. As fair as possible).

In all registering takes a few secs, as Manos, Mike and others can testify! :D

So?

How is it going?

anyone done with their entry yet? Asking cause I saw plenty of interest in this forum ;)

*sigh* alright alright, I'll participate, sheesh.

I'm just downloading the vid now, so I should be done soon enough depending on how long the thing is.

LOL!

Feel free not to take part if you wish! :D:D:D But in all truth, you CAN use it afterwards in your portfolio, which works great for me, personally, since it's a fine animation to have scores. ;)

I'm almost finished with my entry as well...

Must say I loved the animation...and I love working on it...

I'm a minute in and enjoying myself immensely. This thing is SO cute!

I've not started yet:blush:

But I do want to also take part in the competition and score this. After all it's not that I have tons of animations to put to my website... ;)

Just to clarify something, Nik, can ANY of the participants use the clip as part of their portfolio or only the winner of the competition?

Cause I'm probably not winning anything, but I'm quite fond of this little effort so far...

EDIT: Yeah, I just re-read the post, sorry for the stupid question. I'm done, in any case, so I'll send it to you as soon as I can, Nikolas. :)

I woudln't have put the competition on otherwise. I mean, one of the reasons for one to participate is to create music. If you can't use it afterwards it's... bliah... ;)

Of course you can use it mate. :)

Hey nikolas. Really love working with this shortmovie.

Just to avoid any confusion about 1st of December 00:00 (which can be interpreted differently - at least in Denmark;)), I'd like to find out for once whether the deadline is Friday or Saturday night at midnight?

Mathias

Saturday midnight! I will let everyone know! to avoid any confusion!

Glad you enjoy working on it!

:O sorry for being a Danish fool, but in Denmark Saturday midnight can mean both after Friday and after Saturday!! Hehe.

Let's do it the easy way (forgetting about midnight and 00:00). Yes or no:

Will I be able to post my work Saturday afternoon (say at 17.00) or will it have to be Friday afternoon? ;)

Mathias

hey Nikolas. didn't see your private message until now.

"Saturday Night!"

That's great. One more day to work on (I hope :whistling:)

Saturday night, yes! Night, 23:59! yes :) It was my fault to put 00:00 on there...

Yes yes yes :w00t:. You just saved my big Christmas Party at the university Friday night - now I can get wasted without worrying. Hope I'll improve my Saturday-trouble-shooting with a nice hang-over
