Since when do we have the little icons at the bottom of every post?

Isn't there a way to put them on so that they aren't blatantly in your face at the end of every post? :huh:

Yup, since yesterday. Digg, Technorati, Delicious and Furl are popular social bookmarking websites. The little icons make it easier for someone to add these posts to their favorite social bookmark if desired ;) It's just a little strategy to help promote and increase referrals to this website by word of mouth, since according to the survey, many of you claimed you have discussed YC to at least one other.

Are the icons that much of a bother?

Well, that's the most popular site out there at the moment? If you're going to have those four, mightn't it be a good idea to have one for Facebook as well?

I see absolutely no reason to place these links at the bottom of each post. That's far too intrusive.

Ideally, they should be kept in a context menu somewhere, perhaps next to the bookmark/report icons. Failing that, they could be placed individually in that location.

There also needs to be some kind of explanation as to what their function is, because I'm pretty sure most people will be mystified.

Was there not already an option to do this at the top left of each post or something?

So, to me, it doesn't really make sense to bookmark a single post... maybe we could have these little icons on each thread instead of every single post... maybe right next to the Thread Tools would be a great place to put them. Bookmarking threads is useful, bookmarking individual posts is.... umm, why? :huh:

Absolutely brilliant IDEA! I agree and I think this is the way to go.

I don't really understand why the links are present in certain forums and not in others but I still think that if it must exist, it should; just not in OT.

I will look into about bookmarking the thread only. You can't see these icons in private forums, which is why you don't see them in the OT forum.

You proved me wrong. I have no idea why it shows in the OT since this is marked as a private forum. And the subforums in OT do NOT show the little icons, and I have no idea why. Our private moderator and editor forums do not show the icons. *Scratches head* Maybe the other Mike has an idea.

I want to further point out, that by using these social bookmarking sites, you can keep track of threads, and organize them for your own convenience (and mark them as tags so you can find your favorite threads by keywords). We should probably pin a thread dedicated to social bookmarking. I myself, am just learning about this, and I think the idea is neat.

Crtl+D always worked fine for me.

honestly, there might be a maximum of 20% of all visitors who know what those icons are, even a smaller part will actually make use of them.

i certainly won't, to me it's only making the posts look messier (in combination with images people put in their signature).

i say Crtl+Z.
