Digg and Delcious

I am going to take this moment to bring awareness to two sites: Digg and Delicious Both sites are different and have different purposes. Delicious is a bookmarking site, while Digg is a url submission site. Please read the awareness article below, to get a better understanding of how these sites work.

If you want to organize your threads into bookmarks, Delicious is a great alternative. You can organize bookmarks with custom keyword tags, and you can share bookmarks with others. This in turn, helps your thread gain more exposure.

Digg

Digg allows users to submit articles into their directory. The more diggs a submission gets, the more exposure the article will receive. However, even without "diggs", an article can get exposure in Google within minutes! This is a great way for you to promote your threads! For example, let's say you created a thread called "Orchestra for Strings in A Minor". Young Composers can rank this in Google, but it may take a few days, and may not necessarily reach the first page. However, if you create a digg article "Orchestra for Strings in A Minor", and attach a keyword rich description, not only will your thread be found in the Digg search engine, but your Digg article will be ranked in Google within minutes for the keyphrases in your title and description. The benefit of this, is more exposure to your Digg thread, which would link directly to your thread in Young Composers.

As an example, I submitted a Digg article for our homepage. I created the title to be "Young Composers Forum", and within just 5 minutes, we ranked #5 in Google for the phrase. Granted, we own these phrases already, but the point is, Digg is another great resource for search engine ranking, and the results are almost immediate.

Google Search

I uploaded this article on the January 21, 2008, and 5 minutes later, our article submission on Digg was already indexed! Furthermore, if you search directly in Digg and type in the phrase "Young Composers" or any varation such as "Composers Forum, or "Music Forum" we rank well for these terms directly within Digg. This is extra exposure.

At the top of your newly created thread in Young Composers, you will see a "link back" menu. Within this menu, if you want to post your thread as a Digg article, you can click on "Digg this Thread!". Similarly, if you want to bookmark a thread, click on "Add Thread to del.icio.us". You must be registered for these sites in order to use them.

As a last request, for those of you interested, please Digg my article on Young Composers here. The more diggs this article gets, the more likely we will be posted on the homepage under Digg's music category. This will bring us in a good amount of traffic.
