Concert Étude for Unaccompanied Recorder

Featured Replies

Boring title, I know.

I wrote this specifically for the Fantastic Competition for Recorder that Pieter Smal posted. The deadline for submissions is August 15th if anybody is interested. I thought I'd post my entry here as well since I thought it turned out as a nice charming little piece. I wasn't really sure what to call it other than an

This is a very fine piece and I enjoyed listening to it. It looks hard to play but then it is intended for an expert player.

The transition to a new tempo in m14 and m15 seems very startling - possibly to abrupt. Other than that one possible rough spot the piece has a very good flow. A great composiiton.

I liked it actually..it just seemed to be all over the place..ah well.

It was enjoyable for the most part anyway.

very enjoyable...

I have a random descant laying around the house. I was thinking about learning it, but its so high and screechy...

It's really good, maybe you want to add an accompaning piano (?) i think it's going to sound good in the slower passages.

The Winner is:

James Householder - for his brilliant shining work in Concert Etude for Unaccompanied Recorder!

Commentary:

A bright and beautiful piece. Great movement and a challenging etude for a flautist - NOT a recorder player. Most recorder players can hardly reach the E''' on the descant, nevermind the G''' and A''''. It might be possible (with some transposing) to play it charmingly on the Alto or Sopranino, but not at that speed. Due to the high notes, this piece will play good on a flute and not a recorder. Which brings me to a sad conclusion - the winner won't receive a recording since I am unable to play this piece.

Bravissimo!

Pieter Smal

sounds hard to play. o.0

James

This is cool. It does remind me of something, But I can't remember what.

Haven't talked with you in a while so I do hope all is well with you.

If you can play this with a few mistakes, then I would say you are quite an accomplished Player.

Very well done

Ron

You need to write longer pieces

Hi, I listen it now for the first time. I' am still allowed to give feedback ? :D

the Harmony in ms 1-3 from Am-G-C gave it a light character, almost poppy. A nice cute little sweet recorder thingy. happy happy... Good B-theme for contrast, nice structure!

I expected this music to come in phrases of 4 or 2 measures each, like the first 6 measures, ms 1-2 are together, 3 and 4; 5 with 6. But 7 is alone. I expect an 8th measure, before repeating this theme...

Ok, a late reaction, good luck :)
