Barbaric Scherzo in C minor

Featured Replies

Just something I happened to play for 20 minutes, and then proceeded to write down in finale.

Usually my scherzi are much longer, but I didn't really find a way of developing this further without losing the piano bashing touch.

So, there you go: mp3

M. Bulteau - ''Scherzo Barb

Nice! I would double the note values so that it's in 3/8 or 6/8. I'll be easier to read that way. Some of the pedal markings are confusing. Several notational quirks, but I think this is Finale's problem. Great job! When does the orchestra version come out? :)

Well, what can I say? It was a very adventurous, short little piece, and I liked it actually. To be quite honest I enjoyed this over any of the other pieces I have heard of yours. You do however seem to expiriment with the rhythm and time signatures of your pieces more than anything else. This is fine with me, and the main reason why I was so interested. Good job Berlioz, and post more works. :)

lol.

That was a very fun listen! Good job.

I feel it was just about the right length.

lol, if i were a decent pianist, I would play it... but...

i think 6/16 is fine, once you get the feel for the piece. there is nothing to complex (counting wise) that might trip you up with it.

Again, Good job. :)

To be quite honest I enjoyed this over any of the other pieces I have heard of yours.

Hehe, thanks. Really? You? The oh-so-romantic person? I thought you'd prefer things like my 3rd song...

Yeah, I like romantic music alot, but I also like music that seems to experiment with things, this piece was awesome because I liked the variance in the rhythm and time signatures. So yeah..., and what do you mean your "3rd song?"

I mean exactly that, my 3rd song: http://www.youngcomposers.com/forum/song-3-c-minor-i-dont-know-if-raining-outside-7236.html

Cool piece man, I can't believe Tim Burton hasn't come to you for music yet :D

Bravo...

Wonderfully powerful, "barbaric" indeed. Not a note more needed, I think, but if you have more energy to take out of yourself...

I dunno. I think ad infinitum is a bit better. Still enjoyable, though.

Interesting. I might (just might) take time and try it myself!

Great! Bravo!

BUT I cant print this one. Why not? I want to play this masterpiece as well! C'mon! Make is available to print! PLEEASSE!!!

I really love this piece. The score extremely messy though...

Really enjoyed that. Would I be right in guessing you based that at least a little on Allegro Barbaro by Bela Bartok? (He's one of my favourite composers)

That was pretty cool. I thought the ending was awesome, the final chord always surprises me every time I hear it. I'll be listening, listening, listening, listening, and then :w00t:BOOM:w00t:!

But anyway, I really enjoyed the piece, all of your pieces are interesting, and never boring. And yeah, I'm suprised Tim Burton hasn't hunted you down yet. Although I can't say much about "harmonic progression" and whatnot, seeing as I don't even know what that is, I enjoyed it, and I think that's what counts.

Me enjoying it. :P

I really liked it. Really nice harmonies there, plus I think it has the whole barbaric/energetic thing really down to the last details, it's very aggressive. I really think the length is fine, it shouldn't be any longer that it is.

I like the rhythms too. Pretty good overall. The only thing I'd probably recommend is to clean up the score.

I must compliment... this is STILL an excellent piece and I love it very much!

Well done!

Berlioz(M. Bulteau):

I haven't listened to most of the compositions posted here, but this is my favorite of those I've heard so far, and it also happens to be the closest to my own sensibility. Yes, it has some quirky rhythmic touches, but overall, this piece works for me.

I posted a piece last night, and no one has commented yet. Could you please listen to it and give me your opinion as its merit? I will post the sheet music soon, so everyone can see how strange it probably is on paper, but for now, just give it a listen. I have many more, but this one just happened to be the one I chose to post first, because it's short and abrupt, and I had just heard Ferkungamabooboo's "happy freetime funtime atonal" piece called (I think) "Wouldn't It Be Nice?"

Go to my post, "Here's One of My Short Piano Pieces" and listen to "He Wished." I've had very little feedback from anyone with an educated ear, so I'm very curious about how members of this forum might receive my work.

:w00t: WOW! Amazing! Beyond the boundries of music! I don't think I've ever heard such a contrasting piece! It was just so: BANG! there it is! I can't explain it! Excellent use of technique and rythym, and it stayed together extrememly well! Definitely one of the top 5 pieces I've heard on :yc: so far!

Very good composition. Reminds me a little of Alkan for some virtuoso passages with alternate notes, a touch of jazz for the liveful rhythmic... The end is very good, and the piece a pure product of romanticism.

I will counterbalance some comments. I prefer a more "bang bang" (barbaric just for the rythm, bass and especially the end ?) and harsh-harmony piece but... that's a wondeful job too =D

Gravedigging is cool if you find something in the tomb.

Anyway, just to show how deplorable I am after months of practicing this piece.

That's the best I can do! :sadtears:

EDIT: Actually, there's another recording with less mistakes, but this one is practically 150% of the speed. >.<

the music is wonderful, please do practice more :) i'm sure you'll come up with a perfect performance in less than a year. this one is enjoyable at some places, but too erm kinky overall. you surely know what exactly you should work on.

good luck with both playing and composing!

btw, i think the way you played that complex bar at 1:25 turned out sounding really fresh and appropriate, imo.

Many parts are reminiscent to the fourth movement of Schubert's Sonata in C-Minor...

Let me find the catalog number... D. 958

YouTube - Schubert Piano Sonata D.958 4M

also, can you explain why you made pdf that cannot be printed out? i'd like to learn the piece, why not?
