Fear is an Illusion - Solo Violin

Featured Replies

Well, I guess I might as well create a thread for this; it's for teh July Competition

This piece is the product of ideas being written, reworked, thrown away, thought of again, taken back out of the trash, reworked.....you get the idea.

I thought this was quite impressive and the Adagio was a nice contrast to the busy outer sections.

I've only played the violin myself to quite a basic level, (so apologies if you play it well), but to me I do wonder whether there are too many double stops? I think it may sound a bit too thick if it was played on a real instrument? Also, perhaps you have over-done the use of the main motif of 6 stacatto quavers followed by semi-quavers in fives in the last section? I would prefer a bit more variation in the final section - I think this would give the piece more of a lift at the end.

These are only my personal thoughts. Good luck in the competition.

About the double stops...thick is good!; At least in this case :P

I'm glad you liked it, I know what you mean about the ending section, I feel like I did overuse the rhythmic aspect a bit, thanks for the tip. Glad you enjoyed this, and thanks again for teh feedback!

I listened to this some time ago, when you first posted it in the competition thread I think... and aside from the fact that I generally dislike violin sound samples (though they are better than midi), I did like it.

It is all playable from what I can tell, except for the 11ths and 12ths at the end of the piece. For me, they are almost completely impossible (small hands), but I guess someone with larger digits could pull it off. They could be arpegiated, but I doubt that is what you are going for there. Generally a 10th is the largest you should go.

Thanks for the tip, I'll be honest in saying that I really didn't know if it would be playable or not, but now I know more about violin writing :)

Thanks again

You're clearly someone who hasn't heard Bach's fugues for solo violin.

You're right about the 12th, though, that's impossible for anyone with normal hands.

Remember that security is an illusion as well!

Thanks M is D and Pieter (...) for the comments!

Can you give some more sample question and answers. How great your info is! It really useful for me. Thanks.

I like the piece. It's varied and playful, and it kept me interested throughout. My only minor criticism is that by the end of the adagio section I was getting a little tired of all the leaps resolving downward by a half step. I think if you had snuck in one or two that resolved by, say, a half step upward it would have caught my attention and snapped me out of my complacency.

beautiful piece of music

I would like to know which software did you use for creating violin if possible !!

Keeps one interested and enthralled throughout.

A very cool piece.

This one is a little exhausting to listen to: it's jarring and bizarre, musically, and gives a VERY weird atmosphere: I think it truly is a good piece, in it's own way, but it's honestly not something I would choose to listen to, as it doesn't seem to have any grounding or structure, but that's just my own simple opinion.
