August 19, 200916 yr Hi folks! I've been drowning myself in the wonders of LASS lately, so I figured I'd take a break from that today and write something that would balance my zen a bit. For me, that obviously means percussion, so this piece is composed almost entirely using various (odd) percussion instruments. The title speaks for itself fairly effectively, and the mood as well, so I won't bother with much preamble. Let it transport you places, see where you end up....I hope you enjoy it! August 19, 200916 yr Hey, very cool. I love the atmosphere and the percussion stuff is awesome. Two things caught my ear though. 1) The ostinato pattern, for me at least, started to drift towards boring starting in the middle of the piece. Those three notes were beating me in the head pretty severely. Maybe consider adding just an extra note here and there as the piece progresses so that there is some feeling of development? 2) The voice parts are too forward in the mix, maybe consider dropping them down a bit so that they come across as more integrated. Otherwise, pretty awesome track. Also, the synth bass that has a few notes in the beginning sounds very much like an epic fart.
August 19, 200916 yr I really liked the atmosphere in this piece. It had elements of tranquility, but kept an edge of tension throughout. Where are you getting your percussion sounds from? It sounded like Stormdrum, but I'm not sure.
August 20, 200916 yr Good percussion writing as always. Also, the synth bass that has a few notes in the beginning sounds very much like an epic fart. ...I'm pretty sure that's some ethnic instrument. :P

August 20, 200916 yr Not sure about the fart .... It does sound like a synth though I have to say. I think this has lots of interesting ideas in and is well executed - I understand what you were saying with regards to my piece now and the reverb - you've got it spot on in yours. My only issue is that there isn't really a development of the ideas and what at the start seems like a journey towards a big crecendo is cut about half way through and doesn't really pick up again. I think it's because I can't detect a structure that you'd latched your musical ideas onto. I suspect it's harder to develop ideas in a percussive piece as opposed to something that is thematic/melodic. Enjoyed it though :-)

Andy: I agree with you about the pattern actually...I may go back and add some interest later on just to keep the development a bit less static. As for that "epic fart", Max is right in that it's an instrument and not a synth — it's Tonehammer's Cylindrum. Great sound. As for the vocals, I actually had them further back in the mix before but I didn't like the way that climax worked when they were hiding. I might tone them down. Andrew: Glad you enjoyed it — there's no Stormdrum in there at all actually, it's almost exclusively various Tonehammer libraries! LJP: I'm glad you pointed out the structure actually, because I intentionally made it a bit weird in the sense that there's the big climax near the middle and then it never resolves to that height again. It was a conscious choice — I could have easily gone back even though it's primarily a percussion piece, but I wanted to kick standard form in the butt a bit. ;) Everyone else, I really appreciate you listening and commenting. August 20, 200916 yr Hey Marius! Your percussion work is always really well done. I enjoyed the atmosphere of the piece a lot. It definitely took me places. I think the only crit I'd have of it is that the female chanting voice comes in maybe a bit too loud in a couple places. Kind of scared the bejesus out of me. :P But otherwise, another nice atmospheric piece.
