I'll go the whole nine yards with Atonality vs. supertonality then. We'll be here for quite a while

Omg.

No worries, all. I was just trying to make a horrible first impression.

Or, you are an old member who was banned and you feel it necessary to be reincarnated and give your input on our forum. Either way, I'm fine.

I can assure you I'm not. Perhaps I should have thought this through a bit. I thought the ";)" would have hinted to the silliness of the last half of my post since winking seems to be all the rage these days. Oh well, onward and upward and such. Cheers to all!

Haha, mael you're insanely paranoid

I feel very strange doing this, but oh well. I don't think I'm very good compared to a lot of people here, but here we go.

I'm 14, and live in Dunedin (New Zealand), I started the piano at 7, and took up the saxophone at 11. My friend taught me the clarinet halfway through last year (she says I'm already better than her, but I don't believe that,) and I'm self taught on the flute since around the same time. (I'm quite happy because my flute-playing friend says I'm as good as her.) I started composing last year, a bit late compared to some, but I'm glad I did. I've never really studied music much, the most I know is because of piano theory exams.

(I have been going on!!! Sorry for boring some uninterested people!) Next to music, the other thing I like doing, is writing stories. I have some 34 planned, and have so far written one and a half, the finished one being 150 A4 pages. That's about it. (I feel very awkward now, knowing someone is going to read this. Maybe.

(Oops! after writing all of this, I forgot to put my name, and had to edit it! I'm Sam van Betuw, and I'm feeling incredibly stupid!)

You needn't feel stupid with such an amazing name

Hi my name is Tony. I play piano, flute, clarinet, and I sing too. I have never really composed anything but have always wanted to try.

Hi, I've been on here since 2005. I just remembered my password, heh! I live in Canada. I like composing.. uhhh, I hope you guys will receive my stuff well, it has always been pretty decent here. Peace. :>

Hello Folks,

I've taken the liberty of interpreting "young composer" to mean "new to serious composition", hope that's OK.

I hope to learn something from your feedback on my fledgling efforts, and to learn something from your work also.

Yep, that's us alright. See here if you haven't already: Young Composers:About

Welcome to the site, eorl, and others. :)

Hi Everyone,

I've enjoyed viewing the forum for about six months now and have decided to join. I'm a working composer/arranger who is always looking for ways to improve my craft.

Looking forward to chatting with all of you.

I am new to the world of composing and a found this site a month or so ago, and I decided to join. I am very impressed (which is not very hard to do) with a lot of the compositions I have listened to on these forums.

Hello,

I'm Thomas, and currently 14 and living in sunny California. (Almost 15.) I go to a public high school (not an arts school or a conservatory, darn) but hope to one day go to a music conservatory to major in composition.

The thing about writing music for me is that once I start, it's hard to actually pull through and finish it. Consequently, I compose a lot, but finish relatively little. ><

And I don't have perfect/relative pitch, which I'm trying to figure out right now.

I tend to write under the influence of Jennifer Higdon (my favorite), Eric Whitacre, Maurice Ravel, Igor Stravinsky, Christopher Rouse, and Steve Reich. And I think Steve Reich > Philip Glass. Sorry, Glass-lovers.

Well, I hope I'll be able to gain a lot by joining the huge community here. :)

Hi... I'm Alvise from Venice (my name sounds like "Elvis" but it's not the same thing)... however... i'm 21 and i'm studying experimental composition at the "Benedetto Marcello Conservatory" as well as i'm studying artistic literature at the Padua University.

Despite being involed in contermporary music, my ambition is to compose for Broadway, West End, or, at least, italian light theatre... The best would be Broadway, of course, because here in Italy musical comedies and stuff like these are not very well considered: for example no one of the musicals produced after 1978 have live orchestra...

I have already composed two musicals on my own: the first truly drammatical in three acts, with a 60-pieces orchestra arrangement, large cast and chorus (technically very similar to an opera, but with dialogues and mainly pop-rock music) which runs about three ours; the second more similar to broadway standards, in one act, with 20-pieces orchestra which have doubling reeds parts, two principals.

After the experience in the light theatre, i would like to begin to compose classical work: mainly operas. But i have worked also on two piano-orchestra fantasias, so probably i will write also symphonic stuffs.

I'm in search of lyricists and playwrights, i don't care if american or english speaking, to write my third musical comedy... if someone's interested, contact me.

Hey folks, Brendan Sinnamon here.

I'm from Australia, and I'm searching for my own sound as a composer, conductor and musician.

I think alot. So I decided to start a blog about classical music too. I look forward to learning with you all!

Take care.

Fabulous list!

Welcome!!

Hello, I am Ivan. I am from Montenegro. I am 20, and I buy a keyboard before 1 year. I never went to music school. I just leared chords, scales, some other rules and I started playing. And composing... It is possible that I am on wrong place, but still I am here because of my compositions. Can somebody just tell me are they good for someone who learned to play piano alone, and who is only playing 1 year. Thanks

I'm Andrew Stock. I'm from laredo, tx, and have been playing piano since i was 4. I started playing before I could read and count. I have just recently started composing music and have just composed two that I will upload or give links to later for judgement and evaluation. :)

Hell no, that cannot possibly be your name.

Wow...

I was just about to post and remark on how awesome that name was, though.

Can't say it's unoriginal.

Hello-I'm Rosalind. Not too big on intros. I'm an avid music listener and lover so I'm definitely opinionated on what I like and don't like. Even though I'm not fully educated in composition, I've been attempting at it for a long time (again and again and again). Came across this forum as I was googling and thought it was a pretty neat community to join.
