I find it wonderful how many Scandinavians YC seems to attract. Now, all we need is Esa-Pekka and we'll be a big fam-damn-bly.

Hi

I live in Copenhagen, Denmark.

I am a trumpetplayer, who likes to compose. I use a piano and Sibelius/GPO for that.

HEI MANN/M

Hi. I'm Rick, I play Piano and am due to do a work experience with Liverpool born composer Kenneth Hesketh.

I'm also dabble in web design.

Hello I'm Erik, a high school senior, from Pennsylvania. I've been playing piano from the age of 11, and I started composing during sophomore year in high school. Music is my passion and I hope to discover some really good compositions on this forum as well as get feedback on my own compositions. Anyways, I glad to be a part of this forum.

I'm a jazzer by trade (M.Mus. in Jazz Perf/Comp) but enjoy writing every style of music for any media. Currently residing in Toronto, I am excited to begin my Ph.D in Jazz Composition @ Miami U in 2010. Glad to see such a great place for young composers to meet up and brainstorm.

Hey guys. I'm new here. I figure i should introduce myself and my music. I am Justin Taylor, a composer from Canada. I am only 24 years old. I started playing piano at age 5 and have become proficient with many instruments:drums, guitar, trumpet.

Come check out some of my compositions:

Share some of your thoughts with me. I'll try to respond to every one!

See you guys later.

Hi, everyone--I'm Jazzooo (Doug Robinson). I'm a slightly older dog than some of you, but I've got a couple of decades of composing and arranging under my belt. I thought it would be fun to mix things up here, listen to what you're doing and show you what I've been up to.

I'm mostly a jazz player and composer, but recently my wife and I moved from the San Diego area to Central Mexico and my music was taken some interesting turns. I'm introducing myself by posting a link to what I've been working on for the last 9 days--it's a 28 minute through-composed soundtrack for a slideshow of a local artist, Juan Ezcurdia. I know 28 minutes is a major commitment, but listen for the first 4 minutes and see if you get hooked--there are several movements and a whole lot of drama once you get into it.

There is also some jazz improvisation, some classical nods and some weird ambient stuff which is out of character for me.

The only thing that has to be done is to add some human voices over the sampled choir, and a jazz guitar solo in the steel drum swing section.

I hope you enjoy it and I look forward to hearing your comments.

Doug

Sounds like some knowledgeable people are coming here. Hopefully you guys stick around.

They won't.

Why not, Nirvana?

Why not, Nirvana?

Because we have a 90% mortality rate.

But I can hope, and be nice.

Hello Everybody, I'm Vernon, I'm 21, I play the Violin,Viola and Cello, and a little bit of piano, enough to work my way around some mozart sonatas. I've been composing since 11. I've recently thought about seriously composing, not that what I've been doing before wasn't serious, just less dedicated. I love composing for strings, but my new passion is the woodwinds. I'm skilled with orchestration, and probably less skilled at melody construction... well... I can come up with one, just have a hard time being happy with it. I tend to compose all at once, (ex. Melody, harmony, orchestration at the same time.) simply because thats the way I hear it. If you want to know anything else about me, just ask!

Vernon

I am inri and I am from Los Angeles.

I'm sorry to hear that.

Well, I'm only here a couple of days so far but I can easily identify Nirvana as the brooding pessimist among us. ;)

I'm curious to see what kind of fit I might find with this community. Some of it seems very foreign to me--since I'm a recording engineer as well as a player and composer, I never use midi files to demo my work, but rather I use audio clips of my own sequenced or live tracks. In truth, I'm not even sure how to listen to someone else's midi files, but that's something I'll learn about.

I don't compose music the same way every time--sometimes I notate by hand, usually for small groups like a jazz quintet. Sometimes I use the notation software included in Logic which is fairly slick until you get hung up for 45 minutes just trying to move a rest. And sometimes I don't notate at all, since I am the performer. My latest piece, which will eventually show up in the Major Works section, I composed at the keyboard, computer humming along while I improvised and refined movements starting with one virtual instrument and anticipating/imagining the other instruments' reactions to it. It was a unique project for me because it had a purpose beyond just creating music--it was a continuous soundtrack for a DVD of a surrealist painter I dig, so the nature of the visuals influenced choice of instruments, pacing and so on.

I'd ask how others do it, but there is probably a subforum here for exactly that. I'll sniff around as I have time.

I almost blew the site off due to the name--at 53, I don't qualify as a young composer to anyone except older ones. Then I read the history, and realized this is actually a forum for composers who simply aren't dead yet, and I felt better. :)

Hi,

My name is Duncan, I live in Italy but I'm from Oxford, UK. I am a Web/Graphic Designer by trade, but musically I am a classical guitarist and lutenist (Renaissance & Baroque). Over the years I have composed much music for classical guitar (and eve a bit for lute), but recently I started composing for other instruments. I use Allegro 2007 on the Mac for my scores...

Hi my name is Daniel and i'm not a composer

Great introduction! We know so much about you now! Well done.

Why are you here?

ALIENS!!!

Hello every one,

My name is Dylan Christopher and I am a young British pianist and composer. I am glad I have finally found a site like this, that is the ultimate resource for composers young and old a like. I have searched the internet day and night for weeks now looking for a place where I can showcase my work with people who actually understand, or better yet appreciate it.

I will leave a link to my website. I have too many works to list them all right now seeing as its 5:24am here in the UK, but if you register you will be able to listen to them and purchase the scores if you like what you hear.

Please leave some feed back about what you think of my portfolio and the works in it.

Thanks

I may listen to some later, but I like the website design.

Hello, I'm 16 and I play the piano. It's a bit daunting on here.

I haven't really composed that much before but I'd like to start. I normally just like to sit at the piano and play, but don't get much in the way of writing things down. So I was hoping maybe I can pick up some things from here to help.

hey there people i am from india and im new here, i am a music lover and thats what brings me here.

Hi everyone. I'm Ilias Vafeiadis from Greece. I am 23 years old and I'm a composer. I've worked with choreographers and film makers mainly here in Greece and I'm glad to be here with all of you! :)
