What is his name? :P

I don't know if he lets me say it :P

SAY IT SAY IT SAY T SAY IT!

He might get angry at me...He's very protective of his private information.

its me again... unfortunately i have pretty much no experience writing music, which is why i am so desperate to find a way to write my music down (little redundant... but oh well)

as for the music in my head... i dont really know what kind it is.. more of a wide variety of classical (cool intense style) and emotional... just what you need (another one)

anyways...more about me... well, i play the cello *w00t* and am trying to "learn" piano (ive always been able to make songs of my own... just not play other people's)... i started few weeks ago and can almost play fur elise, im trying to squish in some moonlight sonata as well

i am a guy... yay... and... um i think thats about it... have fun responding

How does everyone on the forum know this but me? :D

He's just guessing.

How could I have missed this before. >< Ah, well, time for a proper introduction:

My name is George Gidley. I recently graduated (Magna Cum Laude) from Lamar University with a Bachelor of Music in Composition, where I studied privately with Dr. Nick Rissman. I play piano (as if my screenname doesn't give that away) and saxophone. I primarily played bari sax throughout college and parts of grade school, playing in many ensembles (wind ensemble, concert band, jazz band [both big band and jazz combos], and some chamber ensembles). In the Fall of 2002, I joined and was inducted into the Gamma Zeta chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi, wherein I remained a proud active until I graduated (now a proud alumnus).

I chose Lamar University at the recommendation of my high school band director from my senior year, who was good friends with the assistant band director there at the time. I chose to study music quite simply because I couldn't really imagine studying anything else in college. Music is my passion, as it is the passion of everyone here, I'd imagine, and I knew full well going into college that it wouldn't necessarily lead to a primary source of income for me...but that's just fine. My love for the craft far exceeds my desire for comfort in wealth.

One of my main career ideas when starting college was to go into film scoring, but my focuses have since shifted. I wouldn't necessarily turn down the opportunity to score films (or even TV and video games), but I've become much more interested in other areas, which include music technology, native folk music around the globe (particularly from the Eastern Hemisphere), writing music for concert bands, minimalism, microtonality, and even the psychological and sociological effects of phonetics.

I'm still looking for employment right now, but I'd love to find something to do with any of those areas--especially music technology. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be much in the way of job opportunities here where I live for the field of music.

I'm not sure how to really define my compositional style, except to say that I am heavily influenced by jazz. I seem to be incapable of writing anything that does not have some sort of jazz chord structure or rhythmic motif somewhere in the piece. It's just the type of music that speaks to me. Other than that, my main influences in music come from New Age music (such as Lisa Gerrard), Romanticism and Impressionism (particularly Debussy), the blend of tonality and atonality (a la Alban Berg), and certain film composers including Danny Elfman and Thomas Newman.

So......yeah....this is one of the longest intros I've ever written on a forum. If there's anything else you're curious about, just let me know.

Hi George!

Nice to meet you, welcome to YC

Nice to see you here PianoMan George...

I can use a little jazzish back-up in here...

...

Hi all! I'm Oguzcan from Turkey. I'm 19 years old and I've been playing the guitar about 8 years, composing about 7 years and playing the piano about 2. I'm currently studying composition in an university in Turkey. I've studied mostly classical composition and currently into modern composition.

A friend of mine suggested this forum and I'm right now traveling the topics. Probably going to have a good time here! :shifty:

Welcome. I like your name, how is it pronounced?

I'm glad to have you here Oguzcan, I'll eventually get around to picking your brain on traditional Turkish music... Hope you stick around and enjoy yourself!

Merhaba Oguzcan !!! Glad here is at last someone who speaks my language !
