How on earth do they manage a 150 member band!? Mine has 80 and it's a disaster, 150 is insane!

nice, a wind ensemble my school had one of those last year, welcome chris!

Yeah, we have a pretty big band. However, Marching Band is a class at our school. We have four classes per day, and each class is one and a half hour long. So just think about all of the rehearsal time we get... Do you know what else is interesting about our band? We are a non competitive band and we do two to three shows per season. It helps keep people interested during football season. However, this year we are doing a difficult show and will only performing one.

That guy who said that he had 400 people in his marching band........

Wow.

Hi everybody.

I'm Stephen, 19, and a sophomore at Occidental College in Los Angeles. I'm a music major with an emphasis in trombone performance, which I don't practice nearly often enough.

My mom's a piano teacher, so I (somewhat forcibly) took 7 years of piano, which I quit in high school when it got too busy to do schoolwork, sports, and two instruments. I started singing last year, cuz the choir at Oxy is really good, which motivated me to take some voice lessons and join it.

This semester I've decided what I really want to be is a crazy multi-instrumentalist idiot, so I bought a trumpet and guitar, which I've been practicing regularly. Plus messing around on drums whenever I can. More instruments to come within the next couple years, hopefully.

I'm also really into juggling and vaudeville. I perform irregularly (had a gig last night), and hope to make a living doing it someday. I really want to join a group called the Flying Karamazov Brothers, who combine music with juggling, and lots of comedy mixed in for fun.

I haven't composed much original stuff. I've done a bunch of arrangements for the New Old Time Chautauqua, a touring charity vaudeville show that I do every summer, which is the most fun thing in the world. But until the last six months, no original songs, and even since then, not many. I'm working on fixing that.

Looking forward to getting to know you all better, listening to your music, and getting feedback on mine!

hello. I'm 16 years old, and I hate myself for not studying music. my favourite composers are Mozart, Chopin and Bach. I'm also very fond of English church music, like Purcell and Stanford.

I sung in one of three best boy choirs in Norway, from 6 to age 15, eventually becoming the Head Chorister. I desperately need to sjoin a new choir, but haven't had the time to look, because of laziness and being busy.

I've only composed smaller themes, and I look forward to being a part of this community to learn, have fun, be influenced and discover new music.

HI amaze welcome to YC

Hey, my name's Phil. I'm 19 years old and a Music student in Illinois. I'm rather inexperienced with actual composing, and often have times developing an idea from start to finish, but I'm hoping to change that.

I'm currently a music education student, but I'm really interested in composition, and hope to grow and learn here. I come up with so many ideas in my head, but often forget them before i can write them dow, or never finish them.

I'm currently a Trumpet student although my favorite instrument is the French Horn (I may be making that my primary, but thats another matter.)

I also have singing experience but I'm nothing special in that department.

So thats me I guess!

Welcome to the forum, Phil :P

I come up with so many ideas in my head, but often forget them before i can write them dow, or never finish them.

:P another case of "musical ADD". Stick around for a while and post a few pieces and I'm sure you'll sort all that out. After all, having too many ideas isn't the worst problem you could be having.

Hope you enjoy it here.

Hiya everyone! I'm Jeremy. I'm 19 and I graduated high school from Rockford, Illinois in june and am now in college. I have no formal music education, and I'm a lazy jobless slob who tends to be exceedingly sporadic and never quite gets anything done the best he can. I'm currently failing college and don't care as much as I'm told I should, but I love music, heck I love all forms of art! I'm a little too creative for my own good and it's getting me into trouble as I get closer to realizing it takes a little more than creativity to succeed in the 'real world'. But I digress, I hope to be a valued member of the community and all that :sadtears:

Cheers!

HI Jermey welcome to YC

My name is Michael...

I'm an Australian composer who just found out about the site. I'm 21 and am in the last year of my degree, after finishing a Composition major.

My initial interest in composing originally came from show-music when I was a boy, and later moved into avant-garde rock music - bands like Radiohead, Velvet Underground, people like John Cale, Brian Eno, etc., and an Aussie outfit you have to check out called Not Drowning Waving, as well as the Free Jazz, post bebop movement. I then became heavily inspired by classical music, and I guess I write in that tradition.

Favourite composers today would have to be Schoenberg - especially pre-serial (Verklaerte Nacht is the most hautingly beautiful peice I've ever heard in my life), Martinu, Rochberg, and Piazollo (OK... quite a mix there)....

Most of the music I tend to view as an exploration more than a piece of music - I hope you enjoy some of it and look forward to your critiques!

Welcome aboard, mate!

I hope you enjoy your stay and learn a little something.

Yo

25 and been 'composing' in one form or another for the past 8 years. Only really been getting seriously into it the past few months though.

I've been told that my music is pretty decent .. I wonder if the experts here would agree.
