Hello, I'm Chad an aspiring composer who use to be a participant of YC but left, and now has returned with a new sense of hope towards the finding of great intellectual minds!

I'm 18, I have been composing music for 4 years? 2 years with a composition teacher and I'm going to be majoring in music composition at some conservatory which I haven't decided upon just yet in the Fall of 2007.

I have a very strong interest in contemporary music, and also improv.

Hi and welcome, Chad!

You mention you used to be a participant of YC but then left - are you referring to YC's old incarnation or the present one?

Probably the glorious ancient one, considering it says he joined today.

It's Chad Dream Eyes.. Woohoo :D

OMG Chad Dream Eyes! You were gone for like, over a year! :D yup it's me, the noob you probably don't remember! :D

  • Author

Yes, I suspected as much, which is why I troubled myself to inquire. :D

Chad, if you've lost the password for your old account and you fancy using it again then PM me.

Hey Chad :D

Welcome back!

Things have much changed :D

Most definitely...

(run away Chad, it's a trap! YC was taken over by evil overlords!)

Yep, I'm Chad Dream Eyes, I wonder though why it says my birthday is the 9th of 1988, oh well.

I believe I do remember you M is D, I remember some of your posts and you had an impeccable knowledge on things most people don't take into consideration.

It's possible, but I left because of the hostility towards atonal music... not sure how it is now, but maybe I can become a beacon of hope for all contemporary music composers! at YC... unless there is already another fellow doing the same, then I'll be his/her sidekick.

I remember bob stole my cookie as well :P , she was or still is friends with Marius.

?=)

UMM... Ok, so this is kind of exhausting on my part, and embarrassing...

But, I feel I owe you all an explanation. I will not be returning to Young Composers until the summer of 2007.

This is due to subsequent events following my joining of the site, including my grades slopping around, and my average suffering due to the extreme pressure exerting, by me, upon myself lacking, from this site, that I use to 'shoot up' my grades; I will be leaving. I cannot say I am relieved to have received this punishment from the powers that be, including my parents... grr..., but more so that I am saddened that I will not be able to don the presence here I have, and scathe myself to learn from others, whilst my average is slipping towards... well down.

So, in conclusion, I am formally saying good-bye to all, and that all strings I may have attached herein this letter may not be taken as hilariously tragic as those of my own. I also wish to impart and induce to this letter that I will not be participating any longer in any competition that I have signed in for. This does include: lessons with teachers, symphonic competition, monthly competition, and any others I may have overlooked. I appreciate your generous hospitality, and a pleasure serving as a member for this 6-8 month period. I hope to return quickly, as soon as my grades rise to the occasion!

So, all of that a side... SEE YA!!!

~Morivou~

Wow, bye Morivou, that was certainly unexpected.

I know what you mean about spending alot of time on here, it's a little addictive, luckily for me I never tried at school and still managed good grades, so there nothing to slip for me, however I fear when I get to exam times I may have to do the same for a bit.

Don't stay away to long, Mark

That's very unfortunate, Morivou. I hope to see you again some day. All the best!

Chad, I think perhaps atonality is a little more prevalent and/or accepted around these parts nowadays. Examples may include the following:

http://www.youngcomposers.com/forum/my-f-g-life-5136.html

http://www.youngcomposers.com/forum/nilays-dream-orchestral-overture-5458.html

http://www.youngcomposers.com/forum/exposure-two-pianos-optional-trumpet-d-6928.html

(Nilay's Dream is perhaps more tonally centred than the others.)

Atonal music should be banned...

yeah, f**k tolerence :glare:

Bye Morivou! We'll miss you!

Hi! I'm Katie and I live in Australia.

I've been pretty heavily surrounded by classical music and some pop for most of my life; my dad is an opera geek. I've played piano since I was 7 but quit lessons when I was 12 (I'm 16 now and very much regret stopping lessons), have played violin for 7 years and viola for... 2 and a half. For anyone who's interested, I play about grade 6/7 AMEB for piano, and AmusA for violin and viola.

I also sing soprano and play really, really basic acoustic guitar (my hands don't stretch too far..... >A<).

In relation to composition, I've been making up weird little things since I was 8 (only on piano then....) and have a bad habit of singing in the shower. I started seriously composing at the end of grade 9 (I was 14) for music class, started out with a pop-song-type thing, have progressed (I hope!) from there, and now take music extension composition for senior. Last year I finished a choral work for SSA, 2 pianos and cello which is has very modern harmonies, but I think it's pretty. I hope my choir can record it in about the middle of the year.

I'm currently working on a work for string orchestra in somewhat the style of Vaughan Williams, Britten and Brahms mashed together with Phrydgian mode thrown in. I'm also about to start a choral piece based on the theme of 'divine inspiration'.... again for school.

I'm pretty dead-set against mainstream pop music (there's the occasional gem artist, but I haven't seen one in ages) and so have been constantly trying to get away from the conventional chord progression and horrible lyrics. I'm aiming to find a happy medium where the chords and harmonies are interesting but not so weird that meaning is lost. And to write a viola concerto/sonata. The viola is the BEST! XD

Violas should be banned...

...kidding.

Welcome aboard!

Always good to see new members at YC, especially female composers from Australia...I love the accent :P and there always seems to be a lack of female composers...

I already reviewed the piece you mentioned above, and am looking forward to hearing more...Welcome! :)

Violas should be banned...

.... *tear* XD

lol :D I'm sorry I don't have a very occa accent.... I can try!

<_< >_>

*cough* anyway... I go to an all-girls school, but there aren't many composers there :P One of my very good friends is also a very good composer, so we stick together >w<

Thankyou for reviewing my piece!!! very very much appreciated :D

No problem, posting and reviewing is mostly what I do here...

As for you not having an accent, don't tell me that...It ruins the effect...

Telling me you don't have an accent :) is like telling me you don't hunt crocodiles...It's not in the realm of possability! :D :P

Hellooo! I'm Elaine from Australia, and was referred here by arellys ;) I'm a senior student at high school and taking music and music extension as subjects...and I love composing.

I started off playing piano at the age of 6ish...finished my AMusA two years ago and my piano playing has sorta been put on hold since then. I still do accompanying with the school choirs and stuff though! I also like singing, although I'd call myself a "thinking singer" instead of a "good singer", haha! Oh and I play violin (albeit pretty badly), used to play tenor recorder and am trying out guitar, although schoolwork always gets in the way ><

I've written a piece for string orchestra, which an orchestra at school is hopefully going to perform sometime next term - getting a recording of it will be awesome  As our conductor puts it, it'll be the "premiere" of my piece :D

In terms of general music, I'm pretty tolerant in most areas - I like folk, classical, (some) pop in particular. Classical crossovers are awesome too, I don't know what to call them though!

WELCOME AIRE!!!!!!

we should totally record your piece.....!!!! even in a rehearsal or something. Mr Williams got this awesome cd-quality recorder to try out and it's really good o___O;;; it can even add reverb! and goes into the com in mp3 form....!!!!!!

Hello,

I'm Raphael, from France. I live in Grenoble.

I've been studying composition at the local Music Conservatory for almost 2 years now. I'm an engineer, with a Master in Computer Science and a Master of Business Administration. Music is a leisure for me: I play the piano, very badly I should say, I sing in a Chorale as a Bass.

I started studying music writing for two main reasons: to better understand what I'm playing at the piano, and to be able to write variations or extensions of pieces I like but which the composer chose to develop in a particular way, whereas I would have preferred a different melodic contour or a different harmonic progression.

I'm particularly fond of baroque and classical music, and this is precisely the style we're studying at the Conservatory...

I've been stumbling on this site by accident, after a Google search. I've been reading a few threads, and I think it's a nice place to stick around with fellow composers -- a place where perhaps future Grand Masters are.

I have no hope of becoming a famous composer, or even earn a living with my compositions. I merely compose because I love the act of artistic creation, and this is a good leisure, totally alien to my job...

Cheers.

Raphael

Welcome Elaine and Raphael to YoungComposers...I look forward to hearing more from both of you... ;)
