Hey there, Jessie, and welcome aboard!

Hey! My name is Isaac, I play the french horn. I live in MN in the Twin Cities area. I like to cross country ski, and I have an itch to write a rock opera one day :P

Hi everyone!

I was particularly excited when I stumbled across this site. I'm just starting to venture into the world of composing, though I do have an understanding of music theory and have taken piano lessons for years from an esteemed pianist.

Right now I'm using Finale Notepad, but I'm already feeling the limitations, but I'm not very rich, so 600 dollars is a bit much. I hear the upgrade to PrintMusic isn't worth the price, so for someone with a moderate budget, which one would you recommend? Is it worth saving up the money for Finale, or should I get a lower version

I enjoy a large variety of music. Everything from more traditional music (Beethoven is my favorite in this regard), to rock. In the realm of popular music I most prefer progressive rock, bands like Yes, Gentle Giant, Kansas, and more recently Spock's Beard (their early stuff that is, they started becoming a bit more mainstream after Neal Morse left the band).

I've been jotting down musical ideas for songs and at least partially completing them for the last month or so, but am having some trouble finishing them. As soon as I finish a piece, I'll be sure to post it for feedback.

-Landon

You can go for Allegro or the full Finale at academic pricing, if you qualify. Check the website! :)

And welcome aboard!

Welcome, Jessie, Isaac, Landon! Enjoy your stay!

Hello to everybody. This is the coolest website in the world.

Hello there.

I found this website and I've been browsing through it for a bit. Well.. My username is Benedictus and I live in London, England. I work as a barman and I'm trying to save money to study music. I've been very foolish in the past and dropped out of college after 1 year where I was studying for a BTEC national diploma in popular music. I was 16, I thought I knew best =/ ... Oh well.

Anyway, I have never been far from music but now (at the age of 22) free education is distant memory. I have a very small knowledge of music thoery, enough to play my guitar. It's only recently that I've begun appreciating traditional music as opposed to pop/rock (though I still love rock).

I wanted to join you guys here because I reckon it can't be bad to be amongst like minded people, to hear others' work and ideas and I want to learn as much as possible. One day, I hope to be able to write something of my own and share it with you guys too :)

So like..... Welcome me and stuff

Welcome to the forum, Benedictus - I empathize with your situation, and wish you luck with it

Enjoy your stay here.

Hello there, everyone. My real name is Matt Goff (which might explain the username a little:P ). I've been playing the clarinet for about 7 and a half years, but composing for less than one year. Up until recently, my composing has mostly been either rock band oriented, or solo piano. However, I'm starting to become more interested in classical music due to several factors, not the least of which is the awesome time I had at the New England Music Festival a few weeks ago. Other musical experiences of mine include alto saxophone in a jazz band for 3 years, school drumline on snare for one year, and keyboardist of a rock band for about 8 months. I'm also quite handy on the kazoo. If anyone is interested, I also have a music myspace: www.myspace.com/matthewgoff.

P.S. Does Peace_and_Love post on this forum? If so I'll have to PM him and introduce myself or something. As I was just browsing around I noticed his name here, and I briefly conversed with him on another forum a few months ago about music, although I had the username DucDeQuenelles at the time.

Matt, welcome.

Myspace tunes sound good - though the site is nearly impossible to read. New background PLEASE!!

Hi, my name is Pete. I recently really got into music and I think I want to make a career (or semi-profession at least) out of it. I have been playing saxophone for three years and bass guitar for four months. I haven't really played music and pushed my limitation until recently but I try to make up for my late start in music with lots of time spent practicing.

Hoy! Call me Nimbus, if ya don't mind..

I'm 20, from the Long Beach California Area. I've been coming up with little tunes in my head (using no music) since I was little, and started to pick up a flute to play only three months ago, so I'm fairly new at that. I can also play some piano. I learned both by ear, and self taught.

Some friends of mine tell me I should be a professional Composer, I don't know.. I've been actually COMPOSING (to musical notation software) since late January of this year.

I work on pieces every now and then for a Videogame Project of mine.

I do hope that you all enjoy what I come up with..!

Welcome!

I play the flute too, it's a great instrument, isn't it?

Hello. My name is Jeremiah Hong and I'm 15 years old. I've been here in this forum for quite a while now, and I've developed the hobby of annoying some of the other members. I can't compose 2nd movements of sonatas, and if someone wants to collaborate with me on that, that'd be awesoome.

Hi, I've been here a few times before and just decided to join. I'd rather not give my name for now. I'm a college student in the USA; got started late in music; forging my way through with only really basic music training (piano mostly). However, I believe that just because someone isn't professionally taught and refined doesn't mean that person isn't capable of music.

Hello, talib, and welcome! We've got a lot of self-taught and inexperienced composers here, as well as some with a wealth of knowledge and experience. You'll learn a lot, I'm sure. :)

Hello!

My name is Nikola Pacek-Vetnic, I live in Novi Sad, Serbia, Europe... I play cello and drums (also, learning piano, since it is mandatory), I study graphical engineering at the moment... Hmm, what more should I say...?

Oh, I also have mySpace account, so feel free to drop by:

www.myspace.com/nikolapacekvetnic

Hi!

My name's Camilla as you can see by the name Camilla that appears in the place where your name goes.

I've played the 'cello since I was five, play the piano (self-taught) and ...the KAZOO!

I'm 16 and am studying for my HSC (higher school certificate...what you study for to get a UAI...to get into uni....yeh..crazy Aussies..i know)

I wrote my first composition two and a bit years ago.

and....that's about it...

Welcome, Camilla.

Better watch your back, though, as we've kind got a shortage when it comes to females..

Hello All, My name is Dan (UK). I'm 25 (probably a little old to be a young composer but hey)

I've never posted anything before on here cus I never know what to say - I guess now is no exception either!

Hey guys, I'm Edward. Been playing clarinet for three years (no good at it though) for my high school marching band.

I'm very interested in composing but alas, have no skill in it so far. My music theory is pathetic, I hate practicing on the clarinet, and I have no perfect OR relative pitch. And yet, I still would love to compose someday. I started teaching myself music theory but schoolwork has been in the way a lot. I'm currently just looking to know more about how to compose, what I need to do, etc.
