Hello, I'm Jillian I'm 17. I've been home educated since kindergarten. I have been playing the piano since I was 3 but my mother never pushed me hard enough to practice a lot from that age, so since I was 13 I have been very serious about it. I practice for 3 hours everyday. I would like to work up to six hours, 2 in the morning,2 in the afternoon and 2 at night. I have not composed anything of my own yet, I'm really focusing on studying the different styles of music that I like and to better understand to read music. I really love to play classical music like,Mozart. But I also enjoy, jazz, pop, and contemporary. I have composed one song recently, it's so short though.

I am very committed to music. I really hope to be able to play very well and compose my own music.

I also like to sing. I practice daily with a book by the vocal coach Seth Riggs.

I think I am a soprano, because my mom says I sound like Mariah Carey.

I admire Alicia Keys for what she has done. She's a great inspiration. And Elton John. such amazing, performers.

Thank you for your kindness.

Music is wonderful because it moves peoples hearts and souls and just makes you feel good, it puts you into different places. I enjoy making people happy.

Hey Jillian, nice to have you here! Hope you stick around...

Thank you.

Yes, very good to have you here. Always glad to see more intelligent, committed musicians.

Hi I'm Jonathan, I've been playing piano for the last 26 years. I have written a few songs and may sometime share a couple of them on this site

Please do. You'll find people here are honest and helpful, mostly.

Hi im music lover i just joined this site. Honestly, i need your opinion on my musical talent. im sixteen years old. i've been playing the piano since i was 4 or 5 but properly since i was about 8 or 9. im on grade 8 in a musical academy but i need to know if i have started too late to play the piano professionally. i hear many things about children pianists playing the piano and are very young and are amazing. i love the piano and would love to play it in concerts preofessionally one day. Does this sound realistic or totally hopeless??

Welcome to the forum. Never too late to start - child prodigys are impressive for about 7 seconds. Then they're boring and burnout/fade away by the time they're 18.

Be persistent, practice hard...

Hi everyone,

I'm Harry from the UK.

I'm 17 and have been playing the piano for about eight years (although I prefer to simply play, rather than strive for grades and exams).

I am primarily an actor and singer, and have recently started taking a greater interest in musical theatre (Having inexplicably found myself playing Valjean in a schools production of 'Les Mis').

I grew up with 'Phantom of the Opera' and have therefore developed a taste for big, disturbing and powerful pieces.

My greatest influence composing-wise is undoubtedly Nobuo Uematsu (of Final Fantasy fame), ever since being blown away by 'Liberi Fatali' at the start of FF8.

My compositions to date have generally been similarly powerful 'calls to war', although recent events in my personal life have inspired me to write calmer, more melody-driven pieces.

Whoops, this is probably a bit detailed for my entrance, but it gives a nice insight into my music

Hello, I'm Brian, and I'm 14 years old. My fascination with music began when I was 11 and I began to play the trombone, the coolest instrument ever, in band class. I'm now going into high school, and have made it into the best concert band freshman year. (Now I just have to make sure I stay. :D) I also very much enjoy jazz band and all it has to offer me. Aside from the trombone, I am teaching myself as best I can to play the piano, and I am saving up for a violin; my parents think that learning how to play more than one instrument is a waste of time and money, so I must use my own money, (which is very hard considering I'm not old enough to have a work permit in the United States of America. :))

I really have no idea how well I compose music. I have always had good feedback on my catchy melodies, but my chord progressions are always a bit repetitive, and I lack good harmonies. My knowledge about orchestration is also very limited, and I'm doing my best to learn on the internet. Music theory is a long ways away in my high school education, so I mostly just write themes and such rather than full fledged pieces of music. However, I hope that people will enjoy what I have to give, and I will try my best to listen to criticism. :)

Hi, I'm pushing the definition of "young" at 39, but I'm brand new to using Finale, so this seemed like a good forum to check out.

I'm a journalist with a long musical background in classical and rock. I play violin, electric bass and guitar. Currently composing short works for various combinations of violin, cello and piano.

hello!this will be my 7th year playing the piano. i'm sure i want to play the piano as my career some day, but not exactly sure how. I love classical music, especially tchaikovsky, mozart, and chopin. I've been practicing Fantasia 1 in D minor by mozart recently, until I start my lessons again with a new teacher.

Welcome to the forum dude. I'd give you a more formal welcome but I'm a bit pissed off right now.

I'm TheMagicFlute. As you can guess, I play the flute. I also play the oboe and am going to pick up a 3rd instrument this year. I can figure out songs on the piano but I've never actually learned from a teacher.... I am a senior in High School. When I go to college, I plan to Major in Music Education and minor in Composition. The music notation program I own is Finale Allegro 2006. I first became interested in composing when I ran across the demo verion of Finale Notepad. I thought it was really neat! I've enjoyed writing music ever since.

Well, glad you're here. :w00t:

I hope ya stick around.

Yuck. Notepad is evil.

exactly why I upgraded to allegro! thanks. I'm sure I'll stick around...

PLEASE do that. Almost no new member does it :happytears:

Which sucks. We lose alot of potential awesome people.

So far we need replacements for Giselle, Marisa, Bitterduck, Galt, Anders (:D), and, temporarily, Marius.
