Hello

My name is Mark Greyland. My background may be best described as untaught classical - that is to say, no formal lessons but thousands of hours of listening. I chose the name Stringbreaker as a form of homage to my work in alternate tunings for guitar, in deference to the number of times I have broken strings exporing alternate tunings. I do most of my composition in FL Studio, as it fit my budget when I bought it. Barely a toy then, it is very cool now.

My current interests involve rearranging classical and other music for synthesizers. Eventually I will be able to record original compositions for solo guitar, but the computer can be worked on in the middle of the night without waking the children, so the advantages are obvious...

When using my guitars I can play in virtually any tuning. As there are 2,985,984 of them to choose from (depending on how your guitar is set up) this will keep me in unexplored territory for a long time.

I also have a serious interest in Music Theory. My current projects include a list of every possible 7 note scale and an in progress project to identify every possible 3, 4 and 5 note chord form.

As an aside, I believe that music is in the ear of the composer, and unfortunately, far less in the ear of the audience. I will site John Cage's composition 4'33" as evidence.

...a list of every possible 7 note scale...

Welcome Mark. Hasn't this already been done?

OOH! PWND!!!

OOH! PWND!!!

:) I just hope he hasn't spent the last 15 years working on it...

...

Meh, he's a n00b. Why should we care? :)

I've written a few songs. One which I'm very proud of. But at the moment I want to concentrate on classical music so I'll be ready in time for college. I went to a recording studio once to have my song (and few other songs) recorded. I love writing music and plan on writing more, though I feel I should take a break from it while I focus on other stuff I need to catch up on.

1) Your music should be classical music, though by genre and not by era.

2) If you join and then tell us you're gonna take a break to "catch up on...other stuff" while you're still a huge n00b, you make yourself come off even less important than you might already seem.

I,m roger and try to compose with sibelius 4

:o

I am a poet, a retired teacher and at 63 am beginning to appreciate the links between musical composition and poetic composition. If your administrators allow me to stay that would be great; if not I will understand and bow out.:o

Welcome, and there's no reason you wouldn't be allowed to stay. Young is a relative term, and I'm sure there's many things you can learn/teach around here! Stick around!

:o

Yeah, we generally take young to mean still alive round here :o

hi, i'm Brett and i'm 16 from cumbria. i taught myself to play keyboard in spring 2002, and i started playing some piano in 2004 approx (again, self taught). i have only recently started composing, as i had to compose 2 pieces for my music gcse, and i will find out how well i done on 23rd august 2007. as i have never had a proper music teacher, my compositions aren't really good, as my theoretical knowledge is quite poor (learnt upto grade 1 theory, and working on grade 2 theory). I suppose it is time to get a music tutor and work on the grades better, which will hopefully give me the knowledge to improve my basic compositions.

Hi, I'm Claudiu from Romania and I'm 25... I always liked music, learned to play (a bit) piano and guitar and thought that composing is a wonderfull way to let the world know how it feels inside :whistling:

Oh, and I'm a 'usual reader / listener' of these forums.. but until now didn't feel like registering :)

hi, I am İlke I am a composition professor at the İstanbul University

Hello Brett, hello Claudiu, and hello Mr. Bach.

Mr Bach, your appalling grammar makes your story implausible.

Hello there, My name is Lucas Vargas from Los Angeles, California. i am currently attending Glendale Community College , California. I became a musician at the age of 16. I was a Drummer. when reaching my Jr. year at Highschool, I joined the Jazz band. Sadly i didnt know how to read music at the time. and i started to develop low self esteem, causing me to loose intrest in Percussion. i picked up the Guitar Senior year. but mosty read tabliture. Freshman year in College i attended Music Theory Classes and Piano Classes. I am slowly improving, and enjoying the art of Music.

i have 1 serious year of piano playing.

i am currently located in Panorama City, CA in the San Fernando Valley.

Hello Mr Vargas. You seem humble. I respect that.

You do not capitalize the letter "I". My respect for you has been neutralized.

Welcome! It's nice to have convinced a regular lurker to stay :D

You'd be one of our first members from that area, if I'm not mistaken ;)

Mr. Vegas, please ignore Mr. Sapphire there. He can be a bit of a dick at times but he, like the rest of us, are nice people over all

Welcome all, and please ignore the resident idiot Sapphire. He seems to be fond of attacking newcomers. In fact, would it be possible to ban him from this thread?

EDIT: POST 3000!

Hi all!

I have just stumbled across this site and was delighted to find that such a resource existed. My name is Andi, I live in Germany, and I haven't begun to dabble in composition until very recently. Although I've been alive for nearly 24 years now, regrettably I have spent most of this time listening to music passively, except for learning to play the recorder in school and, for the last 2 years, singing in two choirs.

My decision to try and create my own music was made while sitting through a performance of an exceptionally boring atonal orchestral piece (which I'm sure I just didn't really get, but anyway), which prompted me to think that surely, even I could do better than that.

Of course I could not, but my charming naivit

Claudiu, mr. Bach, mr. Vargas, Lizard,

hello everybody!

Enjoy your stay!

Hello everybody!!! Make yourselves at home!

He's Turkish.
