I'm John and I hope to learn some basic composition "rules" from this forum. I'm pretty ignorant about alot of the fundamentals, but I still like to compose.

Welcome newbies! And John, check out the 'advice and techniques' forum and see if any of the questions apply to you.

Hello, I am Leo from Israel. I'm 19, currently serving in the army, hopefully soon to be a programmer there. I've been writing since a very young age. Music started a bit later. I've learned everything by myself. I play the guitar and piano, yet I know theory better than playing. My favourite thing is sitting with the guitar or melodica and improvising, and then either recording or writing the passage on the computer, and while it's playing finding the best accompaniment.

Hi. My name's Daniel Tkach, I'm a 26 year old guy living in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

I've been playing the piano since I was eight, and as far as I can remember I always "composed", even before starting to study piano. My way of composing was just improvising to see if I played by chance something I liked, lol, then I build on that to get a complete "song". :D Now I follow what mozart said: you compose with your heart, your brain and your ear"; not that what I come up with is as good as something by Mozart...

I don't like using the computer to compose too much, even though now I'm trying to learn how to use Nuendo because I want to orchestrate some piano things I made up, and I want to know how they sound!!!! I prefer a piece of paper and a pen to draft the basic of my "compositions", then the rest is by heart; I forgot a couple of things I kinda liked because of that :sadtears:

I listen to all kind of music, not only classical, I listen to everything I come across; I actually listen to around one new CD a day. I like Grieg, Chopin, and Bach. I like some Gothic Metal bands too, I tend to... "not like" everything that is popular music...

Right now I'm looking for some composing, counterpoint and songwriting books at Amazon. I found and downloaded some of the books I wanted to buy on the internet  I'm reading "Hearing and Writing Music: Professional Training for Today's Musician (2nd Edition) by Ron Gorow". Then the rest of the books I want to get, are worth 400 dollars... but I'm going to buy them anyway, all of them at once; most probably I'll request your opinion on some of them. I managed to get "Samuel Adler - The Study of Orchestration - orquestacion - 3rd Edition", but... just the CDs... I don't think any of you scanned the book... did you?? :whistling:

If I'm brave enough, I'll show you some of my... "compositions"...

Kind regards,

Daniel

Hello,

My name is Geraldine and I live in the state of Nebraska. I teach private and group piano in my home. I also enjoy accompanying, arranging and do some composing.

Hi! I'm FluteDiva. I'm almost 15. I have played flute (hence the name!) for 3 years and am currently working on Carmen Fantasie by F Borne. I also play piano and violin, and I'm working on mozart sonata k309 on piano (i think it's called that...)And I also compose... obviously! I like to write string quartets in baroque style with harpsichord and cello as continuo bass. I also like to listen to other people's compositions too :)

Hi my name in Joey, i am a singer and would like to share some knowledge with anyone who is good at vocal harmonizing.

Welcome to you. I am bindu, new member of this site. I am from kerala, popularly known as God's own country. I am also a young composer. But nobody see my work.

I am new here. My name is comp1. I am from United States.

I like this site very much.

Hi, I'm Jonathan, aged 14. I like composing yet I never really get anywhere. I used to play the piano, but I'm probably better now just improvising than I was when having lessons and I play grade 4 french horn, thats about it really. Oh yeah, great site!

I'm Joe. I've been composing for 'bout 3 years. I'm mostly trying to making things for a game I'm working on, and Marching Band Field Shows. =p. I play Clarinet and Oboe. I also sing Bass in our school's Chorus. I'm a Sophomore.

Welcome Delune, fellow horn player. Glad to see another drop by. You're fond of the moon, I suppose? :P

Forgotten Legend... another programmer then, I suppose? Welcome! So you compose for your school's field show? :P Do they actually play your stuff? That would be very cool indeed. Oh, and a fellow bass you are.... and you play oboe.... awesomeness.

Good day everyone.

Nice site you got here! I might start hanging out here from time to time.

I study composition and am another french horn (and piano) player.

Hello everyone,

I'm Danielle a.k.a. Morwen, I'm rather new (I just found this site today), I've been playing the cello for 5 years, and I compose, but alas, play no other instruments. I go to the best arts high school in Canada. I'm in the music program there (but we almost never do any composition :( except the time we had to do spretchstimme)

Welcome to all the new folks - hope you stick around.

Hello everyone,

I'm Danielle ... I go to the best arts high school in Canada.

Always nice to see more Canadians on here! Whereabouts are you?

Hey, I'm Kieran, I'm from Australia. I'm 15, and I've been playing piano for 11 years, and clarinet for about 6. I'm doing my 8th Grade piano, 6th Grade Clarinet and 6th Grade Musicianship exams (AMEB) next year.

I've always loved composing new pieces, or just creating things that sound good, but I never really get the time to notate it all, one of my new years resolutions (yeah, those things that you might get around to one day because you mean well, but usually give up on after a few weeks)

This sounds like a really good community and I'm really looking forward to getting involved and getting to know people!! Cya round.

i'm rob..born in Rome in 1973 ....i've been singing for 3 years at Le Reve by Franco Dragone in las vegas.

Ok...I guess I have to make an introduction...

Hi. I'm Superchiclet14. I'm not much of a composer, if by composer you mean writing sheet music, I'm actually a recording artist. I write my songs, then come up with the tune on my guitar. (Not very good though...^^;) I also sing my music, I'll record the original acapella version of my new song, "Save Me". You'll be hearing more soon

Nice to meet you. I think I speak for most when I express my personal excitement.
