Hello, my name is Ascold. I'm 19. I study medicine in Moscow, and compose mainly for hobby. I started composing in 2002, and now record my compositions using computer. I don't have a special musical education, and all my musical knowledge I get from various books on music. I also play piano. I love music and this site, it is absolutely amazing!

Ascold, you would be amazed at how namy doctors here in the US (especially in the NYC are) that are musicians. When I was in college, I used to play trombone in the Doctor's Philharmonic Orchestra of NY. They would get music students to fill in any missing parts.Out of a 100 player orchestra about 80 were doctors. I even got to play with them in Avery Fisher Hall In Lincoln Center.

Hey guys. Until now, I've been a "Lurker" of this forum.

Anyway, my name is Joseph. I'm a 14-year old multi-instrumentalist (My primary instrument being Tuba). I've been learning music since I was eight. I really became interested in it when I heard a John Williams soundtrack around that time.

I also started learning magic around that time too, and I now perform parlor and close-up magic.

I'm also a tubist with the Ware County High School Golden Gator Band.

I love all kinds of music, but my favorites are Classical, Soundtrack, and mainly Jazz.

Hi, My name is Mark, and I am 50 years "young". I consider myself a "young" composer because after about 30 years of not being active in the music scene, I have some more spare time on my hands now, and I am beginning to do some arranging and composing once again. My background: I studied Music Theory in high school, I also played the bass trombone. I then attended the music department at Kean College of NJ (Now Kean University) and studied trombone with Ed Irwin from the NY Philharmonic there. I studied Orchestral conducting at Julliard School in NY with Vincent La Selva and the Late Leonard Bernstein. I also had an interest in computers and the then new technology of networking, so I studied that after my music education, and started working in that field. I kind of stayed in music by volunteering to conduct the choir at my church. I became a radio talk show host in 1993 and hosted a syndicated show about technology for 11 years. I recently became involved with a progressive rock tribute band and have been orchestrating some of the classic progressive (1970's) rock music for full orchestra (It's amazing how easily it comes back to you after all these years).

Wow! And welcome to the forum Mark!

Hi everybody,

My real name is Nick (hence my nickname (haha), which is a failed Japanese transliteration that I used for years) and I study music at the Utrecht Conservatory in The Netherlands.

A few years ago, when I first started composing I signed up for this board and enjoyed reading all the posts listening to people's new music. However my life went elsewhere and I didn't have the inspiration or time to write music.

I've been studying music very intensively for the past few months and I started to get this itch to write music again. And because of my expanded knowledge of music theory for the first time I had the feeling that what I wanted to write really came out. Also, exposure to other composers also really helped. So in a google search about composing this site showed up and that's how I came here. :)

Today I'm composing in various styles, besides that 'composing' I do for school homework sometimes. My own style is very modern but sometimes I just feel like writing something Classical just for fun. :D

Besides a little bit of composing :whistling: I mainly play the Harp, at least, that is what I'm actually studying. Besides listening to a lot of music, learning to play piano, reading books, swimming, occasional cooking and spending time with friends and family.

I hope that we can learn something from eachother,

Greetings,

Niku

We used to have a brilliant composer over here in the forums named Nico... coincidence. Anyway, welcome.

Yay! Now we have two new harpists on the forums! Welcome back, Niku. :)

Hi there, I am alias Aergistal, and although not so young anymore, as age, I am a young composer, in some way. I loved music since I remember, but the artists and musicians I met as a child did not impress me at all with their life style and life in general, so I decided to become an engineer (as I loved Maths). Only much later I took up the music... and here I am.

Cheers

Welcome to young composers forum (YC) aergistal, HOPE YOU ENJOY YOUR STAY!!!!!!

Be sure to make alot of friends aergistal!!!

Hi there!

My name is Larry and I've been composing music for about 6 years now, but it is mostly of the electronic dance and brit pop variety. I am a PhD student in theoretical chemistry at Carnegie Mellon, so composing has come to a crawl as the number of journal articles I read goes up, but I get to it when I can. My main interest is integrating classical techniques into my electronic dance compositions and have been studying music theory for about two years now to do that. Hopefully, this community well help me develop some of my ideas as well as me providing help for those with less experience.

i am muhsin from singapore.I am 16 and currently doing my O levels.I play the tuba and piano and in 2008 march completing my grade 8 in theory.I started composition as part of my theory in 15 and started writting solo with piano accp at 16.Please do look out for me.

Hullo!!!

Im Bethy, and I've just started composing music. Mainly flute solo's, because that is my instrument.

Hi everyone! I'm Daniel and I play the cello and piano. I have a great interest in composing, though I after some experience I realize it's not easy at all. Right now I plan to try to compose simpler pieces for piano, and perhaps progressing to cello and piano pieces.

Though it's extremely hard to create a completely original composition, I always try to come up with something not typical when I compose. I tend to avoid Classical or purely Romantic styles, as well as normal popular chord progressions. I hope to compose in a more impressionistic, neo-Romantic, or atonal style.

I am very happy to be able to find a forum like this, where young amateur composers can get together to learn from each other.

im z and i play piano and sing. i love to compose and would lke to pursue career in music

As stated in the title line. I'm Amadeus2726686 and this is my story.

Eh, I've composed since I was seven, at which age I tried to write a symphony in a 120-page college-ruled notebook. (I only filled about ten pages.) I've written five ten-minute musicals for school projects, the latest being a mad scene based on Act III of The Crucible (which was turned in last week). I'm writing a mass which, so far, consists of a Gloria and several versions of a Sanctus. I play the violin and piano, but I study dance at the arts school I attend. And, in my opinion, the most outrageous project I've completed is one of my school musicals -- an arietta about opium for the book The Good Earth. I don't like long walks on the beach.

The end. :)

Hi. My name is Jodi and i'm a freshman in high school. I have taught myself how to play the Piano, guitar, flute, and the violin, and have taken lessons on the Trombone and drums. My strongest is piano, as I have been playing it officially for 7 years now. I have been composing ever since I started playing and I am looking forward to pursue a career in music. If anyone needs anyone to record any compositions they have wrote, I would be glad to do so.

thanx.
