Hi, I'm Simon. I've been composing for a while but I always had this problem where I would start a piece and after a page or two get bored and move on to another one, and the cycle would continue. I've recently resolved to stop doing this and it seems to be working so far as I've got further with one piece than I usually do.

Hi everybody, I`m claudio (pseudonym Khmer). I`ve been composing wit GuitarPro for a while a mixture of metal-folk-classical stuff for a while and in November I will get all the stuff recorded in my first cd. I`m looking to know some interesting people and somebody I could collaborate with.

Check my stuff at MySpace.com - Khmer - Brighton, South - Hardcore / Experimental / Melodramatic Popular Song - www.myspace.com/khmermusica

I'm new to this forum since spend most of my time on appraisal forums, my profession after not finding financially fullfilling employment in the music field after graduating with a K-12 music teaching degree many many moons ago. I still perform recitals at least once or twice a year on my saxophones (alto and soprano) for my local Music Club. Twice they commissioned me to compose choral works for their 75th and 100th anniversaries. I joined the club as an artist member right out of college in 1975, so that pretty much dates me. I think I pioneered musical composition at my college since I penned one of the first honors papers on such a topic. Music brings me focus and joy. I often can be found as a volunteer church musician. I recently purchased Finale 2008 after being a diehard MusicTime user. I'm still not totally comfortable with it, but having that Kontakt Player with Garritan Personal Orchestra (GPO) makes the learning curve totally bearable. I'm finally in a point in my life that I can devote some more time to my great passion, musical composition. I've stumbled onto this forum after judging a Junior Composer's Contest for the NFMC. So that's my story for now... :yc:

hey all.

I'm Alexander (more commonly Alex or Lex)

I've been playing the piano for about 3.5 years (so its debatable as to my level ability) and I've been practicing violin for about 10 years (though never had formal training). When I was about 10 I used to be in the Australian Youth Choir. I've only been composing for about 2 to 3 years and major in symphonic and large scale works.

I could go on, but I don't want to bore you.

Lex

Hey everybody!

My name is Sebastian Spanache, I'm from Romania. Jazz Piano player, classical background, I currently work as a Showband Musician on a Carnival Cruise Lines ship in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.

Back home I have a band called Bright White Line, we play mostly Jazz/Funk Fusion and Latin stuff, mostly compositions.

Got into composing music oh, I guess it was back in '97 or something like that. Since then I've done soundtracks for games, wrote for the band, and all sorts of sequencing experiments, just for practice.

Anyways, just found the site, looks great, and thought I'd say hi!

If anyone's interested in a Latin experiment I've been doing lately, click:

Cheerio!

welcome to yc, I think you'll enjoy it here at our establishment, alot of opinions and great composers, welcome!!:)

Hi everyone. My name is Cyril. I'm a 17 year old guitarist. I play a little keyboards here and there. Favorite genre of music is metal, however, I enjoy jazz, classical, blues and electronic music too.

I'm currently in a progressive metal band called Ascendance (where I play keys).

Orchestral composing is quite cool, and I've become interested in it, however I'm not totally sure how to start. So I decided to sign up here, because it seems like a good resource.

So, yeah. Hi! :)

Greetings to fellow musicians, composers, and lovers of music!

My name is Ian Williams, and I come from Halifax on the eastern edge of Canada. I'd love to use this opportunity (despite the fact that posts go by so fast on such a popular forum) to say that I am surprised by the number of composers here. For many years I had thought that musical composition, so very important a long time ago, had dropped away. I believed that people simply improvised random atonal chords (for "classical" composers) or jammed for 3-4 minutes and called it a song! It is very refreshing and beautiful to know that people still write music.

I have listened to symphonic/concert/classical music (which is so often stereotyped as elitist or stuffy, yet contains within it some of the greatest expressions of love, beauty, and sorrow in history) since I was at least eight years old. In this glorious, splendid, and (most importantly!) human music, I find the greatest solitude, anger, or sadness. I believe very strongly in the seriousness and passion of music, and saying that classical is "very relaxing" really bothers me. I would never say that non-classical music is below my tastes, as I love all music (for that is art, and art is beauty - always), but I hold a certain special place for classical.

Whenever I practice or listen to this divine music, I am swept away from this universe and taken straight to the realm of the imagination. A shining light seems to illuminate the world around me, and thousands of colours and images of memory and mind stray past me. I feel as if I was meant for music, and though I did not begin to study music in any way until late year 17 of my life (I am now 19 and a half), I am filled with burning fire and passion for it. Though I have nothing in me of technique that someone who began at age 3 might have, I have more than many of them: I have an unstoppable drive. Love and inspiration of the human experience make this possible.

One day I hope to make a gigantic impression. If this is not in the up-and-coming, though, changing the day of at least one person is perfectly acceptable. Music is my life, and I intend to mold and change my world with it. I am glad to have found a gathering place for people with similar aspirations, or at least similar interests!

That might just be the best introductory post I've ever seen on this thread. Welcome to YC and enjoy your stay. :D

Welcome all newcomers: especially IAN! YEAH! EASTCOAST BOYZ!! celebrate0.gif Always cool to have more Canadian content on here...

Hows the weather back home in NS?

Hello everyone!

My name is Maria, and I'm just starting composing. I play percussion, that's including piano!

I don't really know what else to say!

Thank you for your welcoming here :) - this is obviously a very supportive and excellent site. The weather in Nova Scotia has been pretty terrible from November until about one week ago, but I think winter is the most inspiring time anyway! Whether it's wet, compact, or dry (we get all three here, as you obviously know!), the beauty of winter is just as amazing in Nova Scotia as its summers and springs. I'm glad to have such a great place to observe as I write my melodies and ideas down. Unfortunately, the music industry in Halifax is.. not the greatest ;) and I'll have to leave eventually. I'd do anything for the piano, and if leaving my birth place is in the cards, then I'm off!

"That might just be the best introductory post I've ever seen on this thread." Thank you, M_is_D; I can't believe an experienced poster to this site would greet me so! It's excellent to find an active compositional forum (other ones I have tried are .. dead). Thank you again for your welcomes!

Welcome to this forum, Maria. I'd be careful to call the piano a percussion instrument ;). I think it's much more complete than drum sets or other percussion instruments! I wish you much luck in composition.

You sound like a nice civilized person. You'll have a blast reading off-topic threads here, including the older ones. You'll see just on what level of craziness we operate here.

And of course, the excellent music at the Major Works forum :P

Oh! Cool.

Hi everyone! I'm Syafiqah from Singapore, but you can just call me Etela. :)

I major in piano, and I also play the keyboard and accordion in Singapore Malay Youth Orchestra. I can also play the guitar, though not as proficient.

I started composing music when I was 8 years old studying in Junior Special Advance Course at Yamaha Music School. Then my passion for composing sort of took off from there. Right now at 17+, I've composed quite a handful of piano music. I also compose many childrens' song for the Ministry of Education under the technology division, to be used for educational purposes. And currently I am working on music for a major theatre production in my school.

I am hoping to share with and learn from musicians alike here at youngcomposers.com!

Hi there to all of you. I welcome myself here. :)

My name is Tasos Kalaitzakis, i am from Greece and i am a composer (my work is my hobby and my hobby is my life. music). I compose music since the age of 10. I play the piano since i can remember my self. Music is a very very long journey and composing is the benefit of being in love with music. I really feel like capable of everything when i'm composing. I guess all of you have the same feeling. Every single composer is a little god of his own magical world of music. I am a god of my world too. I guess many of you feel like the world is yours when composing. We all feel the same feelings but our music reflects our feelings in a different way for each one of us. Anyway, i am in love with music. Not my music but music generally. I like watching films and concentrating to the soundtrack. I love film scoring. It is the most expressive field of music i think cause it has to do with picture and the mixing of them two is magical. I've composed music for a comic (U.S.A. "The Stalker"), for two documentaries, a commercial and a short documentary. My web page is here.

Anyway, nice to meet you all guys. CU soon!

Yay, another person from that part of the world! :D

My mother is half-malaysian and Nigel lives in KL.

Welcome to YC:)

Welcome new members!

stick around

I suppose this is more of a re-introduction for those of you who already know me.

For those who don't: My name is Lee and I've been a member of YC on-and-off since the early days (I joined the first generation of the community about 8 years ago). I took about a year's hiatus and now I'm back and looking forward to seeing what's up around here.

I'm a Classical-Revivalist composer and professional musician from suburban Los Angeles, California.

Looking forward to getting acquainted - or reacquainted as the case may be - with you all.

*giant hug* Lee's back!!! :D

Uncle Lee!
