This thread is better than other forums. I love YC. At least it's musically orientated.

Hi guys

Thought I would re-introduce myself, having not so much as looked at this site in about 6 months. I am Shaun from Australia. I study and teach piano (more teaching now) and clarinet and am learning guitar, drums, voice and saxaphone.

Hi, composers! I'm posting under my real name.

I manage computer networks for a living, because that's what I learned how to do in college and because it pays the bills. I also happen to enjoy it, but I need a diversion every once in awhile. Last year, just to shake things up, we moved to Japan to work for a year. It was a rockin' good time. Now we're back, and I think it's time to get a hobby. My childhood dream, before it got derailed sometime in high school, was to become a world-famous composer by age 20... and now I'm shooting for small-scale Internet notoriety sometime before I die. :P

Justsoyaknow, I'm not completely ignorant musically. Ten years of theory notebooks from piano lessons ain't nothin'. It let me skip the beginner stuff in college, anyhow. I took advanced theory courses and music historical surveys whenever I could work them in, and they were fascinating, a welcome distraction from Discrete Structures and Linear Algebra. So I know the basics, but I still don't have much experience composing complete works. I'm intent on getting some.

YC seems like a nice place, and I look forward to getting to know... most of you. ;) I've been lurking here for about a week. I promise to stay active for another two, and longer if I feel welcome at that point.

NO! That is my real-name. Prepare to die!

:O

I think it's a pretty good name. I can only assume the parents of the roughly 136,000 boys and 3,000 girls that currently use it felt the same. ;)

My name is Kyle Pineda i'm 17 and a serior. I've played the sax for about 3 years(tenor and baritone) with my high schools band, i hope to get my own sax for christmas, but we shall see. I started my journey into composition last year when i told music theory as a class and have since fallen in love with it. I've written a number of short pieces my favorite being a fugue in F# minor. I hope to be able to further my composition knowledge and possibly help a few others as well. Right now i'm writing a 4 movement ABA form piece in g minor. I'm stuck on an idea for the second idea so when i make my next post hopefully i'll get some good feedback. Thats all for now and good composing to you all.

Hi, I'm Tom

Hi everyone, My name is Seth and I am from Milwaukie Oregon.

For my senior project I am going to be composing some pieces for the Milwaukie High School Accappella Choir :)

I love composition, and although I don't consider myself good at it I am always interested in learning more about it and more about how to get better at it.... Music is my life so I love all forms of making it :)

Hi, I'm Jeffrey from Vancouver, Canada. I have played the piano for around 8 or 9 years, and I have been composing since the last 2? Anyways, I'm probably younger than all of you, so honestly, you don't want to know how old I am. :P

I'm oscar and i play oboe piano flute and organ

Hello all. My family called me Duke when I was young so it seemed an appropriate name to post under. I am young at heart although in chronological age not so much. My wife says I am "seasoned." I live in southern Indiana near Louisville, Kentucky. I graduated from the University of Louisville School of Music a number of years ago. I earned a bachelor's degree in applied piano and was the first person to receive a master's degree in theory-composition there. I composed a piano concerto for my master's thesis. My composition professor was Nelson Keyes who taught me a lot.

I began studying piano at 10 and played trumpet and later baritone horn in high school and college. I bought a used trombone a few years ago and began learning to play it and recently have worked at classical guitar. I played organ and piano in churches for a number of years and also served as a choir director at several area churches.

I am a member of a local music study group which has been around since 1939. We meet once a month from October to May. Each meeting has a music program presented by members and, occasionally, guests. We have about 45 members and each member must be a performing musician. It is a good group of people.

I use Finale when I compose and recently have set up a Linux computer and installed Ubuntu Studio with which I plan to teach myself about digital recording. I would like to make some of my music available to others through that means.

I have not composed much in recent years due to the demands of my

hi everyone. I' Michale Quoc from VietNam. Am interested in music and movie. Nice to be great this forum.

I'm matthew, i'm 14 and i'm from northern ireland.

I've been playing piano since i was 7, and i am doing my (UK) grade 7 in november.

Since about 10 or 11 i've been playing tenor horn, with my local brass band, and recently i've started french horn, which i'm doing a grade 5 in.

I play french horn in a wind band and in an orchestra.

This is my first year of music GCSE, and i love music, unfortunately i'm the only enthusiastic person in my class.

I love nobuo uematsu's work and the prelude of carmen is probably my favourite classical piece, although i love the piano works by beethoven, his 5th symphony (of course!) and many other classical works.

I am quite interested in orchestra, and hope to learn a string instrument. I'm forever getting my younger brother to play the clarinet! (although he isn't as interested as i am. :P)

I don't know if i'm too young for this site, but it looks really interesting, and i'd love to be around other musical minds and learn off them.

Hi. :-)

Hi my name is Dawn and I'm a music education major. I'm looking to get aquainted with people that know more about music. I'm in Music Theory III right now and I'm going to teach class tommarrow on 9th, 11th, and 13th chords. :O

Hi there! My name is Evangeline. I'm 14 years old and I just recently started composing. I became interested in film score composition probably a year and a half ago. I've played the piano for about a year and a half as well. As a result, most of my compositions are for piano. Although I would like to progress to composing for a full orchestra. I have also played the oboe for about a year. In the past I have also played alto saxophone and electric guitar. It said on the welcome thing that our music was more likely to be reviewed if we included a score. What exactly does it mean by 'score'?

Score, as in sheet music. You're more likely to get a piece reviewed if people can see what they're listening to. (PDF output is common, and easy to produce.)

Welcome!

Hi my name is Dawn ...and I'm going to teach class tommarrow on 9th, 11th, and 13th chords. :O

Jazz! ;)

Not necessarily. . .

Not necessarily. . .

:whistling:

I know....I was being facetious.

How 'bout now: b9, #11, b13 ??!!

Seems jazzier now.

But I really do hate #11s and b13s. Altering the 5 is my preference.

b13, #5....same difference ;)

Actually, I prefer #11 in chords like the M7#11. It seems weird to have a major seven with a flat five.

But anyway, introductions. . .

Hello. I'm Nina and I'm 17. I live in Croatia.

I have been playing piano with a private teacher for one year from now only.

She is great and very nice person (maybe even too nice) so I can't really be sure how I'm getting.

I'm worried because I don't feel like I'm on a good way with my playing. There are no piano experts around me

so there's noone to ask. Noone who can tell me is this having sense.

Acctually, my neighbour is a piano Professor in Music Academy but I'm very afraid to ask him

..because I'm so afraid he will leave me out of hope and tell me that it is not good.

I love playing piano and simply adore and live for MUSIC so I'd be terribly dissapointed if he says I'm not talented.

.. I don't want to waste my time, though. :(

What to do? How to know what are my real chances?

Hi, I'm Shelby, I'm 13 years old, and I play piano, sing, and compose. I have been playing piano for a little over four years. I just started taking voice lessons again about two weeks ago, but I had a few voice lessons before that... I have been composing since around my 10th birthday, and I have been writing poems since I was a small child. One of my poems was published when I was 8 years old.

I write piano only compositions in modern style, jazz, and other genres as well; and full scores and lyrics in pop, rock, choir songs/church music; and film score type compositions.

I intend to pursue a career in music.
