Mine keeps changing, atm it's a bit punch up between Grieg, Beethoven and Brahms.

Shostakovich or mozart, two great extremes but I love both of their styles.Mozart with the great balance, and Shostakovich with the great scale. Its funny saying that, because Im not too fond of Mahler.I want to like it, but the music seems to go to places I dont want it to go.

Stavinsky

ps i am sorry to Anders for opening up the other thread. I must have missed this one. Ive never been on a forum before - forgive me ;)

My all time favorite would have to be Stravinksy.

But I also like Bloch, Prokofiev, Tchaikovsky, Cage, Beethoven...etc

Gordon Goodwin!

Best contemporary Big Band composer ever... ;)

Gordon Goodwin!

Best contemporary Big Band composer ever...

Haha! He's a wild man...I've played some of the BigPhatBand charts, Hunting Wabbits comes to mind as particulary interesting.

Hunting Wabbits is awesome but you cannot really beat the climax in The Jazz Police. :)

Froberger!!!!!

Who the hell is Froberger?

I've taken an interest in Gabriel Faure lately. His music is hazy, dreamy and harmonically incredible. It transports you to a different plane of existence, dude! Go here for an open-source recording (+sheet music to follow along with) of his nocturne, Op. 119.

I own recordings of all his nocturnes. The last 7 are ridiculously modern for their time!

I've recently re-discovered Karlheinz Stockhausen.

...he uses helicopters, and that's damn cool.

So did Metallica, and they're not.

:whistling:

I like Poulenc. Not because he's gay  because he loved woodwinds.

Definitely gotta be Mussorgsky, Brian Williams and Ulf Soderberg

Film Composer: John Williams

Classical Composer: Right now, probably Stravinsky (this category changes constantly!)

Pop Composer: Duncan Sheik

Broadway Composer: Adam Guettel AND Stephen Schwartz (and others...heck, I don't really have favorites in this category!)

Rock/Heavy Metal/Screamo and the like: None.

Debussy is my favourite. But then I worship impressionism so I would say that....

  • 2 weeks later...

Film Composer: Er...man...way to many. But I would narrow it down to Zimmer. Yeah...that's right. I said Zimmer. :whistling:

Classical Composer: Holst

Pop Composer: Honestly don't know for sure, since most pop isn't written by the artist.

Broadway Composer: ALW. Specifically for Phantom of the Opera (only a few songs) and Jesus Christ Superstart.

Rock/Heavy Metal/Screamo and the like: Tool and Evanescese

  • 2 months later...

1) Ravel

2) Debussy

3) Takemitsu

4) Holst

5) Respighi

Changed dramatically again :D

In no particular order we have:

Dvorak

Debussy

Mike (of YC)

Steve Reich

Brahms

Rachmaninov

I've been majorly digging and gaining appreciation for Olivier Messiaen, Carl Nielsen, Francis Poulenc, Edvard Grieg, Klaus Egge (!!!) and Geirr Tveitt (yay scandinavians) lately.

So no, no ''favorite composer''.. Not favorite composers either: Lately I've come to just revel in the music rather than getting caught up in specific artists. It's great. It's like floating around on a gigantic river of milk... (if you can imagine)

hi, my favorite composer is Andrey Rubtsov. what's yours?

I looove the young Mr. Rubtsov.. He's a composer of much sprightliness. :)

Andrej Rubtsov is just great...his viola pieces are orgasmic, indeed!

Copland

Bernstein

Stravinski

and others...

Very Hard question.

I would have to say, Puccini.

But of corse i have a good long list, containing John Adams, Stravinsky, Dvorak, Mahler, so on so on.

Beethoven

Tchaikovsky

Liszt

Chopin

John Williams

and many more
