~Zelda Title Theme Meldey/Arrangement~

Featured Replies

Hello!

Here's my newest little endeavour; an arrangement/medley revolving around the main themes from The Legend of Zelda series.

I tried to bring them all together in such a way as not to sound too much like the original and yet be unmistakably recognizable; the essence of a good arrangment. This is still in progress so I'll be posting updates as I make them (the ending, for example, is not the actual end of this piece; it's just a placeholder until I write more). Please look at the Mp3 instead of the MIDI if you can, it will really improve your opinion of the piece since MIDI tends to bastardize things

Please enjoy and let me know what you think of it so far. Your comments are much appreciated :P

I can't say much about the Zelda aspect of it; I never actually played that game even though it was supposedly uber-cool and everything.

Anyway, I like this song. Nice happy flutes and everything, backed well by brass and strings. I would've had a more dramatic ending... but it's supposed to be Zelda's theme, which I assume already has an ending.

Overall, nice work. I'm sure someone at the VG place (I've never been there myslf) would love it.

It definitely had that Zelda feel, using numerous motifs (and occasionally the almost full melody) from Zelda games. Generally, (except for the ending ) it sounded very much like a composition meant for a Zelda game, with all the right instruments having certain roles (from what I can remember off-hand of OoT :P). I would've like more themes and small obscure melodies and themes, though...like the Song of Storms/Windmill song! I love that song. Made my first arrangement using that...I'll see if I can find it...

Hey, thanks for the comments, guys!

This is more of an edit of the previous thing, there's no new material after; just some tweaks. I didn't even bother making a new Mp3 for it. As for the ending, THIS IS NOT THE END OF THE PIECE!! :P It's just as far as I got on the arrangement, remember it's a work-in-progress. I'll add more to it as soon as I write it. The "end" you're hearing is just me throwing something together so it doesn't quite just stop.

Anyways, enjoy the update and stay tuned for more with new content!

=\

My computer is messing the Mp3 up.

All I hear is.. Baaa...Baaaa...baaaa...baaaa...ba...baba...

My computer is crap though. =\

Hey, measures 2 through 8 remind me of "Lion Sleeps Tonight" - Cool :D

'Course I'm only looking at a midi file, so you may have done this already but i'm not hearing it - you could use some articulations on the cello part to give it some more rythymic integrity.

this maybe the best zelda arrangement i have ever heard. and trust me i've heard a lot of them. most are very overbearing and repeat the same them every 5 bars. this one does variations on it using the different instruments. but i would like to see a little more snare drum. that would be cool. :P

Hello everyone,

After my summer, I have another update to offer on this piece. I've added a LOT since you've last hear it so please make sure to take a listen and let me know what you think; I'll post up the updated Mp3 soon as well. In the meantime, listen to the MIDI to get an idea of things and if you like what you hear and the Mp3's still not up, let me know and I'll send you the Mp3 personally. By the way, to avoid useless comments later, this piece is NOT FINISHED YET. Just so you know.

Comments welcome, wanted and very much appreciated! :)

Wow! You were busy over the summer lol :)

Very cool, makes me want to play Zelda! HAHA!

Whoa.

This is amazing.

What you need, is some Majora's mask in there. I did hear Clock Town but that's not enough. Add some Termina and Deku Palace and Great Bay stuff.

And I love your darker section.

Thanks for the comments!

Mitch, you have a very good point and I'll remedy that right now as I'm working on the last portion which, as you can hear, is in fact the Deku Palace theme. I'm still working on it so I'll be adding more soon.

Stay tuned for updates and I'll stay tuned for comments! :P

Can't say much about Zelda because I never played it but I think you did a good work with this piece. I liked the counterpoint and the way you managed the melodic lines.

Well done!

regards,

Bruno

Thank you!

Here's the Mp3 for those of you who haven't heard it :w00t:

I can't believe I never commented on this!

Unfortunately, I don't like a note of Zelda changed

It IS the greatest musical work ever since the 80's.

...*bump* :whistling:

I've listend to some of your other pieces before and have liked them and this is no exception. I like the use of orchestration and variation in the themes. There is a nice sense of dramatic flow in the whole arrangement. I really liked 8:40 on a whole lot. Your choice to change the harmony as you did was very nice.

By the way, ever since I heard the your pirate theme for your pirate musical I've been eager to hear an update. :P

Hey everyone!

I got that periodic urge to write some Zelda music...so once again, I've returned to this theme and added another minute, plus some edits (for now).

For those of you who know the original material fairly well, I've finished the statement of the Deku Palace theme from Majora's Mask which the last version of this recording sort of ended on. I then transitioned it directly from the minor to the tonic major and continued with the awesomely catchy and happy credits theme (also from Majora's Mask).

I intend to continue it with the wonderfully dark Midna's Theme from the most recent game; Twilight Princess. Hopefully I'll get to that soon, while the Zelda mood is still strong

In the meantime, please enjoy this update (if you've already heard the first bit. If not, then enjoy the whole thing! :D) and give me your comments; they're very much appreciated.

You are truly the video game music expert!

Thanks very much, guys!

Yes, I'm actually lobbying to get this played by a real orchestra in a venue like PLAY!, because my arrangement (having seen PLAY! and Video Games LIVE in person) is at the very least longer and more complex than the ones they performed.

As for why I used MIDI sounds, the reason is because I originally started this piece before I had access to sound libraries and such, and then since I continue it so intermittently and just blaze through a new section, I never got around to re-formatting it for sound library recording (it would be a LOT of work at this point). So I've just kept it going with fairly basic GM soundfonts. :)

Thanks again for the comments! I'm still working on this, even as we speak, so expect some more little updates in the near future while this Zelda mood lasts! :)

Speaking of little updates...here's one! :D

I've just thickened everything up in the last part and smoothed out a couple of the transitions there too. We're now officially past the 11-minute mark. :)
