Here is my submission for the Summer 2016 competition. Apparently, I like to cut it close. Feedback is much appreciated. Cheers!  --  Noah

This piece definitely deserves more attention than it has gotten so far. Perhaps this is the "darkhorse" entry for the competition...

From its very beginning, it's pretty clear that you're very comfortable writing for a chamber orchestra (in fact, I'm not really sure if this belongs on the "chamber" forum or the orchestral one, since I'm guessing you'll need a conductor). The piece is well-rounded and has a direction, and while you tend to play it safe when it comes to harmony, the bolder ones thrown here and there spice the music up at times. There's a sense of the impending drama that possibly contributes to this, even if a given listener is not familiarized with Shakespeare's play.

Well done!

Thanks for your compliments, Austenite! I am humbled by the other entries to the competition, but win or lose, I'm glad I wrote this piece, since as you mentioned it involved me getting out of my harmonic comfort zone and spicing things up a bit at times. Hopefully the experience will allow me to be a bit more adventurous in future compositions (and competitions!) as well. Thanks again for listening and commenting -- it's much appreciated.
