November 14, 20169 yr This is my modest entry for the 2016 Fall Competition. It's a set of variations for solo alto recorder, recorded in my not-even-close-to-a-studio bedroom. It's me playing it. More information can be read in the Notes pdf file. A link to an actual presentation of the original theme (an anonymous folk music) can be watched here (there's a short lively intro before the music starts): Variações sobre o Siriá.mp3
November 20, 20169 yr Beautifully constructed and performed. This would work great as a solo violin piece as well, reminiscent of Bach's partitas for solo violin.
November 21, 20169 yr Very good and somber (almost) throughout. I love recorder: an instrument that, sooner or later, I want to learn and explore
November 21, 20169 yr Author Thank you both for the reviews^^ @Emiliano Manna, if you also want to compose something for solo alto recorder, I'd love to try it (as long as it's not thaaaat difficult).
November 23, 20169 yr Great! The melody is beautiful, almost mystical, and you develop it really well. I particularly liked the little touch of jazzy chromaticism in variation 5.
November 29, 20169 yr You're always writing the such distinctive stuff for these competitions! I've never heard music for a recorder sound so good. I love the theme you chose. Also very distinctive. You're capable of incorporating your own culture into your music so well. I'm not at all in touch with my Mexican heritage so it doesn't really show up in my music. Nice going, man!
