Three "Minutes"

Featured Replies

Each of these pieces are one minute long. Each was an entry to a competition and only the first one made the cut. The Coup was aired as part of Vox Novus' 60x60 competition where 60 works are chosen out of I don't know how many on the subject of Radio. So it consists of material I borrowed from the library of old radio shows along with my own music mashup. The second and third were for another competition with the subjects Halloween and Death, respectively. It's hard to give something one minute long a musical arc, but it's an interesting challenge in any case.

I do really like the first one. Just because of the time limit it felt the most arc-like, as opposed to the other two which felt just a bit stilted.

Yes, you're right. The form really needs music that is somewhat busy to compress everything down to scale.

I love it! In particular the first two.

The combination of voices and music is so smooth in the first piece!
The melody of the bassoon is wonderful and it reminds me of the opening of Stravinsky's Le Sacre du Printemps. That's probably caused by the combination of high bassoon and low bass clarinet.

Although I am not such a big fan of the last one like of the first two, I did like the contrast between the simplicity of the choir (and later the strings) and the complexity of the piano.

Thanks, maestrowick. It is odd, (onsidering that you're following me)  ... This is a very old piece, I have more substantial things than these here novelties. Why not check them out? 😀
