December 4, 20187 yr Harmonic language is good. If there's one thing I can comment on right now, it's the use of negative space. Sometimes I think there's too much of it, especially when everything else flows so nicely. This is especially apparent in the quarter note triplet measures that do not have the syncopated bass. This obviously doesn't include held measures; that worked well enough.
January 10, 20197 yr I think this music, taken as language, has an endless series of non sequiturs which give it a stilted feel and leaves the listener with the question, What are you doing? What are you trying to achieve here? It might be different if there was a payoff in the overall work, a punchline so to speak, or at least a sign post or two along the way. But there is none.
January 11, 20197 yr Author I understand what you say, but I think there are many many ways to organise a composition. In other words, I don't need a punchline or a conclusion to make this and to find a meaning (for me, of course). I guess there are different feelings about music.
January 11, 20197 yr I'm glad you understand, as I wouldn't suggest that you didn't intend it to be anything other than what it is.
January 30, 20197 yr This is a really thoughtful piece, and certain chords in context are jarring, in a good way. I find the piece subtle and evocative, but I find the title strange, which I think gave me the same feeling as Ken: “What’s going on?” To me, the piece sounded more like frustration and melancholy. I would have expected “revenge” to be more aggressive and dramatic. Maybe this is portraying the first stages or the “seed” that grows into a desire for revenge. I don’t know. Regardless, I really liked listening to this. Thanks for posting! 😊
