Guest CreationArtist
Do you do any odd things while composing or that have to do with listening or singing, or humming, etc.? I have two, but only one I'm not embarrassed to say. That is that I hold a seashell to my ear as I compose to enhance the ability of my "Mind's Ear." The other one, is really odd and embarrassing, so . . .
Keerakh Kal
I usually hum the parts as I'm writing them, often adding little flourishes with my hand, which makes my brother think I'm mentally unstable. ~Kal
Dunael
I often sing stupid song while composing at home (such as singing for one hour with only the name of my cat or stuff like this. One of my ex roomate was calling it 'the festival of the silly song'. But since I more often that not compose in coffee shops now I try to do less noises ! eheh
CaltechViolist
I almost always whistle the parts as I write them down. (No instruments for me!)
Guest CreationArtist
I'll finally admit my other most embarassing and odd quirk involving music "technique." :) I'll wait until tomorrow, so I can just take this moment where I'm still thought of as normal. Dustin Hahn
Sometimes I'll go to my piano, slap my fingers on whatever keysthey land on and see if I like what I hear. XD Always like those weird interesting chords.
Nigel
I love placing numbers into music and singing them as lyrics... Sometimes it rhymes xD

Aww, come on - tell me the name of a composer who's normal? I thought our creative skills allowed us to stray way off the top of the bell-curve!!! I mean...I look around me at work and elsewhere and think...if they're an example of normal, then I'm glad I'm weird... :)
bryla
I love placing numbers into music and singing them as lyrics... Sometimes it rhymes xD recently i performed a piece with butch lacy, that he wrote and called numbers. it was a "rap" where he only combined numbers you would say in a rhythmic pattern... very cool :(
M_is_D
Very much unlike me. I cried all over the paper while writing Tragicom
William K.
I usually hum the parts as I'm writing them, often adding little flourishes with my hand, which makes my brother think I'm mentally unstable. OMG!!! I DO THAT TOO!! My sister and my mom think I'm crazy. lol..... I hum my pieces ALL the time. Seriously. all the time. Even sometimes when I'm eating. I would look over and my mom would be giving me this wierd look. lol. So yeah, other "techniques" that I use is I either just sit down at the piano and without even thinking about it, just play some notes and see if it can be worked into a theme. Or, just hum up to where you have and when you get to the part you're stuck on, keep going! dont think about it. Just... see where your mind thinks the music should go. :P I hope this helped. :D -William
Guest CreationArtist
I'll finally embarrass myself: How would the ""swift movement of the liquid of the (buccal cavity) in a rythmic [and melodic!] motion"" rank on the top ten odd quirks related to music? It probably wouldn't, but it's still weird. :whistling: I really wonder if anyone else on Earth does this..

Heh.... I do that too.. Swishing spit around in your mouth in time and sometimes in approximation of melodic space. It sounds cool in your skull so what the gently caress? Tumababa
I got called on it once when I was dabbling around on an electric bass that was unplugged. "Hey Chris... what the hell are you doing?" "Huh?" etc....

Guest CreationArtist
Wow.. I never thought anyone ever did this before. I think it's natural for your body to want to get music out from inside of your head.

Luluberyllium
I am thinking of actually making some experimental piece of music using it.
Dunael
That was an interesting topics showing us with humor : what is normality ?? Does it really exist !? I don't think so. I often sing silly song, or do cute or silly faces in the mirror when alone... or any other stuff like this. Of course, that's stuff that I wouldn't do when I'm in public... it's part of 'learning to behave'... but I guess that when we are alone, we just don't need to behave and we do stuff to help us concentrate or to have fun... like any animals do... I often see my cat doing stupid things just to play a bit... we are the same... our parents usually just have though us 'to behave' in public. Which is not necessarily a bad thing sometimes ! eheh :D
jujimufu
well, while composing my vocalise, I was at my computer without a piano (my first attempt at writing something without a piano), and I was singing the parts of the voice out loud.... .... and I can tell you my voice is no better than a 3-year old playing the violin with a broomstick... Charlie Gregson
When I play any type of music I snap my jaws together in time with the rhythm. I always keep my mouth closed, though.
